    Something people need to get into their head already.
    Asexual: NO *SEXUAL* ATTRACTION.
    Aromantic: NO *ROMANTIC* ATTRACTION.
    They are both perfectly normal, but it’s *absolutely* disrespectful to say asexual people don’t want to date or want a significant other.

She was cool, she never got involded in drama, liked to play video games, she mostly stuck to herself and a few close friends but she clearly wasnt lonely. • @dannyboygregory-mccormick9157
      @dannyboygregory-mccormick9157 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@ariffitrie8839 unfortunately being asexual may not prevent you from having sexual thoughts. There are some Asexuals who dont have sex but still masturbate and some even still enjoy porn. Other asexuals may even have sex with a partner on occasion but they just don't enjoy it as much as their partner would.
      As for being an asexual, I dont belive there are a lot of cases for choosing to be asexual. Like if somone were to ask me how to become gay I would probably not have an answer, I just discovered one day that I perfer men and that was pretty much how that went.
      If you are worried that sexual thoughts are damaging your life you may need to seek psychological help. Doctors may just tell you to practice controling your urgers with meditation or scheduleing masturbation time, so that you can associate reliving yourself with an appropriate time and place. If those things don't help they may prescribe medication.
      Honestly getting professional psychological help has saved me in so many ways, I feel it will likely be the best solution.

I still remember hearing students at my school engage in talks about sex, and it's very clear some of them were very interested in those discussions and would've had the same sexual attraction for it. For me, I personally never saw why people liked the idea of having sex and found it repulsive. I really did believe that maybe I'll eventually have a change in heart once I become an adult. Nope. I'm glad to know there's other people in this world like me and it's not that strange after all.

I don't know, maybe people are like that, it's just a pet peeve of mine. +major discomfort.
      Edit: Also, that "not sex positive" argument is kind of dumb. Like, just because I don't like to see something I don't forbid people to like it or do it. I just rather see the sword-fight or best friends cuddling, thank you.
      I've not been accused of that yet, I just get teased for looking away or displaying my boredom.

    Some things to know about asexuality (anyone can read this, including asexuals who may not know everything about asexuality/may have common misconceptions)
    One thing that's important to know upfront about asexuality is that asexuality is about our attraction to others, not our action. We can be asexual and still have sex. Not all of us are sex-repulsed (sex-repulsed means feeling disgusted at the idea of YOU experiencing sex and NOT wanting to engage in sex yourself), so those that aren't sex-repulsed can have sexual relations and for plenty of reasons such as: wanting to pleasure the other person(s) in the relationship (who may or not be allosexual! Allosexual means experiencing sexual attraction at an average rate/allosexual is anyone who isn't asexual), wanting to pleasure themselves (asexuals, as you know, aren't sexually attracted to people but they may enjoy the 'feeling' of sex itself), are just curious about how sex feels and are okay with having sex with people etc.
    Most people seem to think asexuals are “just scared of sex” and are completely unaware/oblivious to when someone finds them attractive which is so untrue and hurtful to think because it's a stereotype that doesn't define all of us. Asexuals, again, are not defined by their actions but by their attraction just like any other orientation and the same goes for aromantics! (Example: aromantics who are romance-repulsed wish to NOT engage in activities that are typically considered romantic. Aromantics who aren't romance-repulsed may wish to do activities that are typically considered romantic)
    By the way: Yes, asexuals can be fully capable of telling if someone's "attractive". We may not feel sexual attraction but we're not blind. Aesthetic attraction is a thing as well so it's important to take that into account.
    I'm sorry this is super long. I would make it shorter to read but I'd have to exclude clarifications which are important for, you know, clarifying lol
    Overall, I hope this was educational. Thanks for reading to the end!
    (Jk this isn't the end, I'mma just include some helpful terms related to asexuality- you don't have to read this next part although it is also very educational and may help you better understand yourself and others)
    Descriptors (I include the ones that are most helpful for conversations about how you feel about sex yourself and seeing sex in media/when other people discuss or show sexual activity)
    Note: If you switch the term, 'sex/sexual' with 'romance/romantic', it can apply to how you feel about romance yourself and seeing romance in media/when other people discuss or show romantic activity. Both asexuals/aromantics and allosexuals/alloromantics can use these descriptors.
    Sex-repulsed = feeling disgusted towards experiencing sex personally
    Sex-indifferent = feeling indifferent towards experiencing sex personally
    Sex-favorable = feeling glad towards experiencing sex personally
    Sex-negative = feeling disgusted towards seeing sex in media/when other people discuss or show sexual activity
    Sex-neutral = feeling indifferent towards seeing sex in media/when other people discuss or show sexual activity
    Sex-positive = feeling glad towards seeing sex in media/when other people discuss or show sexual activity
    This means you can totally be sex-repulsed and sex-neutral, as in: you may not want to experience sex for yourself although you're indifferent to seeing it in media/when other people discuss or show sexual activity.
    Regardless of whether or not you're sex-repulsed, you are supportive of people who are sex-indifferent or sex-favorable (or should be supportive, anyway), as in: you may not want to experience sex for yourself although you're happy for anyone else who does want to experience sex for themselves! You can be a sex-repulsed asexual/allosexual and be happy for friends who do want to have sex (:

    I made up this metaphor for my own asexuality for my friend, who was struggling to understand what I meant.
    I said ‘for example, imagine stepping on a snail barefooted. It’s gross, right? No one in their right mind would willingly do that.’
    Of course, she agreed.
    I continued ‘that’s how I see sex- or, in fact- any intense physical reaction at all. It disgusts me and yet everyone I know does it. Everywhere I look people are stepping on snails, their foot covered in snail mucus, and they seem to have the best time in world. It doesn’t make sense.’
    I also applied this metaphor to the popular question ‘can you tell if people are attractive?’
    I answered ‘I could find a snail with the prettiest shell in the world...but I still wouldn’t step on it. Because that’s gross.’
    Edit: I just want to add that this is about my own feelings and I know that this is not the defining term for asexuality. Asexuals mostly aren’t even disgusted by sex (as the video explains) but this is how I feel. Asexuality has its own umbrella and making metaphors for how you feel can be a great way of helping people you know understand how you feel.

      @@smileyface81mc77 Good question! Here's what I know! There's a difference between the feeling of romantic affection and the feeling physical desire. You can want to be with some one romantically without feeling the physical aspect of it, and vice versa. They tie into each other a lot for the average non-ace, but sexual desire does not equal romantic feelings or affection. I consider myself to be grey-ace, and to my understanding, sexual attraction is (pardon in advance for being gross) a touch hunger surrounding genital areas... Kind of like a craving but for a person and their physicality? Being Ace or not being ace isn't wrong or bad, they're just different. Your experience and feelings are gonna different from anyone else, and if the asexual label serves you and feels true to you, then use it. There's a pretty big Ace community on Reddit if you wanted to meet other ace people and learn more.

    It should be known that as asexuals, we can still tell if a person is hot. The thing is we don't feel any sexual attraction towards them, but may understand why other people would. We can identify beauty. But this might not go for all asexual people. And, for me at least, it is very much possible to fall in love with someone, just not romantically. I feel intense platonic love towards quite a few people but don't feel any sort of attraction towards them. Also you can fall in love with a lot of things, not just people. For me, music, art, stories, etc. are all different loves of my life and I'm as good as married to them forever. So I guess I'm trying to say that love can happen to anyone; some of us might not want a life partner but might want kids nonetheless and choose single parenthood.

    One thing that's often misunderstood about us is people think we can't get sex. Like we're losers or an incel. Truth is I had a hard time figuring out I was ace, it took until I was 28 and for years, especially while I was in the military I would force myself to have sexual relations and just never could get into it. I was actually pretty well known as a "ladies man" in my squadron because I frequently hooked up, but it was me trying to find someone who made me feel anything. I even ended up getting married. After a divorce and I got out I explored bisexuality for quite a while as well trying to figure out what was wrong with until I finally learned about asexuality by connecting with so many from the LGBT+ community and it all just clicked.

      @KanaHyoshi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I thought I was hi. Then I was sure I was pan. I questioned demisexuality. Then a friend, another ace from my LGBT support club, told everyone how they figured out their orientation. As they explained what ace was and how they were also aromantic, I started to put the pieces together. I have been able to identify as ace for years.
      Being ace is just as confusing and frustrating as any other sexuality.

      Poor bloke. That sucks! Having to take so long and discover this the hard way. Kids should be taught about this in school and that it's quite okay and nothing to be ashamed of. But good luck with that, seeing as Americans will insist on voting repub... 😫

      I'm in the same situation. My parents say that I just need to find the right guy and I'm just like, "But you don't need to have sex to be happy". And then they tell me that sex is what makes your bond and relationship stronger. I know they mean well but I get kind of sick of hearing it. My friends are supportive though. They pretty much had an idea that I was asexual already. My one friend actually guessed that I was and when I asked her if it was normal to be this way she said it was completely fine and that plenty of people are asexual. Someone else I know (who is an adult) told me that she thinks it's great that I'm doing things at my own pace. She said that my views might change, which is fine and they might not, which is fine too. She said that it's good that I'm doing what I want to do, not what society expects of me, which is honestly one of the best things to hear.

    • @KisDraga
      @KisDraga 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! I agree. when I was younger my dad admitted he thought it was odd I had never had a boyfriend. He was even almost ok with the idea that maybe I was gay. Cut to ten years later I admitted I resonated with a sexuality and I got the "you just haven't found the right person". Literally 30 years of disinterest didn't click. Even my close friend thinks its just a phase. I don't care if they beleive me or not. Its really not a big deal in my opinion. Im just glad for myself that more people are talking about it. I used to wonder if I was Bi in college and would think to myself I felt more a sexual. but no one was talking about it back then so I didn't think that was really an "option", but I'm really glad they are now though because I 100% resonate with being on the spectrum of it.

    I was married for 18 years. My now-ex used to say “ Something is wrong with you. Go fix yourself. Go to counseling, go to the doctor and get put on hormones.“ Which I did. But it didn’t work. Because I was not “broken.” Lack of sex drive is normal for me. Now I worry I’ll never find someone who accepts me as I am w/o expecting sex. I don’t feel it’s fair to date a “sexual” person b/c I’ll never be able to meet their “needs.” I like cuddles, companionship, adventure and would love to share my life w/ someone but I don’t know where to find someone like me who would be ok in a lifelong committed, friendship-type relationship w/o sex. I’m 50 and friends say I’m cute and sexy (seriously??). So I give the “wrong signals.” I attract sexually oriented people. Seven years since my divorce and I’m still alone.

      Just because she is asexual doesn't mean she cannot or will not love you. Only that she doesn't experience sexual attraction. She will have no desire for sexual relations with you, at least not in the "normal" way others do. It would be purely based on libido, romantic attraction, and desire to please a partner.
      Regardless of whether or not you take your friendship any farther, educating yourself more on asexuality would definitely make her very happy.

This obviously doesn't mean you can force or pressure her into anything (which sadly "corrective sex aka r*pe, actually happens a lot in the ace community) but just ask her what she's at and what she's comfortable with. Don't treat her like shes emotionless or incapable of affection

    I am aro asexual. I can't understand why people need sex or romantic relationships, I mean I got my friends and that's all that matters to me. I had squishes but I thought that it was romantic when it wasn't I just really value them as wonderful friends. I am proud to be aro ace because at least I don't have to deal with finding the one and being lonely because I'm single, that's the positive of my sexual identity. My friends and family is all I want and need, I can't see myself marrying someone. I just feel nothing it doesn't excites my at all... I hope that you guys could be proud of your sexuality and even if you can't relate with every asexual you're identity is still valid and don't let anyone tell you that it's not true because we all experience this differently!

Friendship could be just as fulfilling as relationships. I just don't think it's most important thing. It's so weird that sometimes I hope to be in the friend zone. Is that weird?
