Kimmy is a great rival on-screen because she’s likable and that adds complexity to the story.

You're right. When the rival is nice, it does make a more complex storyline than making them the villian. 13 going on 30 also does this with Matt's fiance.

I've never ever seen this movie as a rivalry between Jules and Kimmy, but more about Jules' desperation and the love she has for Micheal, the futility of it all, also about the relationship they both have... I always saw Kimmy as the symbol of "it's too late", which many of us can relate too.

also even from the beginning you just never get the sense that Jules is going to "win", Julia Roberts does a great job of playing this esperate fool in love.. people do stupid stuff when theyre in love etc, which is what I think this movie is about, rather than rivalry.

Kimmy is the happy bride to be.
Michael is the happy groom who found love
George is the voice of reason for George.

Kimmy was only 20... They were 28. No way was she ready for marriage.
She was head over hills/puppy love type. He found a young girl that was impressionable, willing to bend at his every whim.
Not real love at all. Girl barely out of high school, no life experiences and spoiled by rich father. What a joke.
