    Jules shouldn't be breaking them up, and she's going about the whole thing in the worst manipulative way... But when I watched the movie the first time, my thoughts always were: I give that marriage a couple of years tops. Honestly, the fact that Kimmy can't tell him that she wants to finish college; the fact that Michael refuses to even contemplate letting her - a girl just barely in her 20s - finish college before basically being his +1 everywhere he goes; the fact that Kimmy feels that she needs to change herself just to keep him, to mold herself into the image of what he wants her to be; none of that is a healthy basis for a relationship. It's gonna chafe after a while for her and for him.

      I felt the same way and I was a kid when I watched the movie too. I remember feeling so confused when there wasn't a "happy" ending with Jules and Michael haha. I didn't think what Jules was doing was right, hilarious as it might've been, but I also though Kimmy wasn't a good match for Michael; the movie was pretty making her traits of innocence and sweetness as being a "good person" and worthy of being married to Michael. At the end of the day, I guess the point is that people fall in and out of love and letting people go, to perhaps make their own mistakes (as probably in Kimmy and Michael's case) is the best choice of action.

      The scene where michael.says to Jules
      "Kimmie says that if you love someone you say it, itherwise the moment will pass."
      Jules had the chance to tell Michael as they were crossing that bridge but the moment passed.

      despite Jules being awful about the whole marriage thing, what she and Michael had was a lot healthier than what Kimmy and Michael had. It actually feels like Michael was grooming Kimmy

    • @felisd
      @felisd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      @@jimshezar I wouldn't go so far as "grooming"; she is an adult after all, and based on personality alone, she probably initiated most of their relationship except for the proposal. But I think you're right that their relationship isn't healthy. Michael is mostly with her because she feeds his ego and is willing to bend her entire life to suit him. Jules meets him on more of an equal footing based on her age and the fact that she is just as established in her career as he is - plus as a writer, she could travel with him without sacrificing her entire life. But ultimately I doubt they would have worked long term either, precisely because Jules wouldn't feed his ego and eventually her career might make demands of her that he didn't like, but that she would feel she needs to follow (book tours, restaurant visits that don't fall in his travel itinerary).... Ultimately, both these women could do a lot better than Michael.

      @@felisd I totally agree! I remember the scene where Jules said she's changed (when Michael said he didn't let him hold her in public I think) and that to me was a huge red flag like Michael doesn't want a woman who has boundaries. Michael needs to grow up lol
