I'm an American but I have to say that Kurt was my favorite skater of all time. Boitano did the serious programs like no other, Hamilton did the funny routines - again like no other. But Kurt could do it all, serious, funny, everything. He was the absolute best. I'm so sorry he could never quite conquer the Olympic stage but I never get tired of watching his mastery of skating. Thank you, Kurt for the amazing entertainment. You were an absolute joy to watch.
Thanks Gretchen. Well spotted. We are proud of him. He is my age and seeing all those clips is like memory lane of wonderful simpler, and exciting(!) times. The chapters have gone quickly it seems. I am sure you and so many, remember those cosy weekends watching the figure skating. We were spoiled….so much talent, interesting judging at times. The skater could just throw in an extra jump if needed at the end of the program. Controversies, a few scandals…. Strange seeing us get old enough now to retire out. I remember being proud seeing what “my generation” could do! There was a really nice special on Kurt when he was going for gold one year. Might have been on CBC. Showed him at home and skating up on a lake under Alberta’s mountains. Lots of conversation. It may be on youtube now.
Fellow American here, too. I loved watching Kurt fugure skating. There was something special about watching figure skating in the late 80's & early 90's. The Olympics introduced the world to all of these figure skating legends & Kurt is certainly among the greats.
Kurt was fun to watch. Boitano's my favorite male skater of all time, but you sat and watched him in awe of his artistry and storytelling. Kurt was fun and funny and athletic and looked like he really enjoyed himself. Your jaw might be dropped with Boitano, but you never stopped smiling watching Kurt. Good luck on your next faze of life, Mr. Browning and thank you!
I am 63 years old and American. I have always thought that Kurt Browning & Scott Hamilton are the very best figure skaters. But it's more than that. Those two men are wonderful human beings, and that was a big part of why I love them. That, and their creative genius and amazing artistry. And their goofiness that makes me laugh. End of an era. I wish him well, and hope that the future holds a gazillion moments of love & laughter for him and his family. God bless!!!
You and Scott Hamilton always brought a smile to my face, anticipation to my soul, and happiness to my heart! You are the best, and the world loves you for your gift! Thank you Kurt Browning!!!
This is not his last bow. He lives on in our hearts and minds. He is preserved on film for all his achievements to shine and guide us. He now has a chance to reinvent himself and morph into a different way of teaching us. He is amazing and resilient. His body has taken a toll for all we have seen him do. But we are immensely grateful for the price he paid for this sport. He will become more than we expect, but he needs to rest with the other greats from before. He is cherished and remembered always. He deserves a chance to be so much more. We treasure his gifts he shared with us. Thank you. Can't wait to see your future endeavors. Take a bow. This show is over and a new one is beginning. Enjoy life.
I grew up watching him skate. He was always fun to see. Kurt Browning, Brian Boitano, Scott Hamilton...they were epic to watch. I was more into the ladies figure skating, but I would stop and watch for these guys every time. Their styles were so different, but they all mesmerized me.
One of the best ice skaters of all time. Yes, we never knew what you were going to do on the ice at each performance, but we knew we were going to be entertained and see fantastic skating. Thank you.
If Kurt Browning was skating, I dropped everything to watch! An amazing entertainer! Cried for him at the Olympics! He has given fans of the sport so much JOY! We Wish him good health in his next chapter. ❤🇺🇸
There was no one like Kurt before Kurt, and there has never been anyone like Kurt since Kurt. An original. A unique talent. A great athlete for certain but also most importantly; a true showman. That's Entertainment at it's very best. 👍👏🇨🇦👏🇨🇦👏👍
I love him. He came to my house a handful of times in the 90's due to having mutual skating connections. He was always so kind. He would give all us kiddos lessons on whatever we wanted. It was always such a positive experience!
I grew up watching Kurt Browning's skating antics and his genuine smile. He lit the skating interest in me and anytime he was on TV I did drop everything to watch him. He's an amazing man and I wish him the best is his new exciting life!!!
I love that , “ What’s he gonna do next time.” Well you’re doing it again Kurt! Always a pleasure and exciting to watch your skating. I remember those days too, “ Oh, skatings on!! Gotta watch.” I’m still like that though when I see skating is on. 😊. I am 68 yo now ,but when my daughter was young, we used to lay in bed , in the late 80’s and early 90’s , and watch skating ,while eating candy or snacks, until it got dark on the weekend! Skating is different to me now without the skaters I always watched, but there are still such excellent and talented skaters to watch! Be happy Kurt! ❤
There was always trepidation watching a Kurt Browning program. His steps and gestures were mesmerizing and his jumps seemed to be improvised, coming out of nowhere. So many skaters telegraph their jumps, but KB’s just popped out of the blue like so many brilliant flashes of superior skating skill. I will miss him terribly. And yes: integrity. you got it, Kurt !
Kurt Browning is a legend, with artistry and athleticism packaged into each performance. His performances brought joy, excitement and inspiration. I wish him the best 🥰👍 I hope he continues in some capacity while also branching out in new directions!! 🥰❤
Never ever regretted taking the time to watch you skate. Your skating brightened our lives and made us think of what was possible with hard work and determination. Best always.
Thanks Kurt for all the memories. My favourite skater of all time. I'll never forget seeing you live at the World Professional Championship in Ottawa just after you retired from "amateur" skating. I was with a friend who loved Elvis because of his amazing jumping ability, but you won her over at that competition.
Im a big sports fan but cant say ive ever been a skating fan. I can say however, that at 50 yrs old living life in Canada, I knew, and know the names, Orser, Stojko and Browning. There are others of course but these 3 were just known to Canadians whether you were into sports or not. Kurt Browning kicked a lot of ass while representing Canada and he put a lot of smiles on the faces of people from all around the world. For that I am proud, and thats how I will always remember him.
I remember being a little kid watching figure skating and just being mesmerized by Kurt’s skating! Thank you Kurt, you’ve inspired so many of us on and off the ice!
What a good piece that captures one of my favorite skaters and a wonderful performer that I have always enjoyed watching! Thank You Kurt Browning for may years of great programs and great skating!
Your performances were always filled with a mixture of strength, agility, silky joy and absolute joy when you’re on the ice! Thank you for the years of joy you have given us all ❤
Just rewatched his Casablanca routine - still get goosebumps. Now that's a role model! After a lifetime of discipline and hard work, it's time for a new chapter.
THE BEST MALE SKATER BAR NONE! My favorite and what a delight he always was and he always kept us guessing about what he would do next and never disappointed. Always with style, class and integrity. I will miss knowing you are there on the ice. Thank God there is video. You earned this rest for sure. Godspeed, Kurt Browning.
I have been fortunate enough to see Kurt skating live both in competition and as part of Stars on Ice. The transition from Brian Orser to Kurt Browning, then passing the torch to Elvis Stojko, was so exciting. Kurt brought such creativity to the sport, along with pushing the athletic envelope. What a time to have lived, to see this national treasure from the start to finish of his career.
Kurt, you are undeniably a true athlete and entertainer on so very many levels! Thank you for all that you’ve done to keep your sport alive! You are the real deal!
I met him when I was 21 as my “aunt” is his father’s cousin. We were at a party at the arena in Caroline. I wrote a song on the piano for him after watching him in the Albertville, France Olympics. He’s a gem that we’ll always love. I live in Calgary, so not too far from where he grew up. Will always love you, Kurt ❤️
As soon as I could I shared all of your skates with my kindergarten classes over the years. Singing in the Rain had every student on their feet each and every time. You have inspired so many. Thank You Kurt.
Thank you Kurt for all the amazing performances. Thank goodness for youtube for people like you so we all can experience it forever. Was great seeing the clips of your parents.❤ Thank you for the wild ride. Best of luck to you.
I am an American woman, who has loved Kurt Browning, his sense of humor, his Artistry, his athleticism, his precision in seeming randomness, and the heart with which he performed. You are loved, and you will so be missed! Much love from Chicago!
He is my FAVORITE!!! Am constantly amazed at what he comes up with. With Kurt, you've not seen the "requirements " , you've seen a "Performance "! A show! Remember watching him starting in the 80's and being amazed. Blessings for your next chapter. And thanks for the memories.
Kurt, I have always loved your skating and I am happy we all have social media to watch your programs from years past. Enjoy your step back from skating. You are such an awesome human and I hope we don’t hear the last from you… Me, a huge fan from the States. Much love and respect, and maybe a few tears. ♥️🥰
Skaters like Kurt Browning, Scottie Hamilton, and Phillipe Candoloro put the fun into skating and they made sure the fans that came out to see them had a great night and were entertained. Sadly, time waits for no one and the show will come to an end but there will be a lot of great memories of watching them entertain us. Well done, Kurt!
As a young figure skater I was in awe of Kurt’s ability to do it all. Artistry and physicality, humor and every emotion possible. He was a true gift to the sport and will remain an international legend. Wishing him much joy in his next life chapter.
I trained as a figure skater starting at 3 years old 1962 then Dorothy, Scott, and Toller's acting was my fav and so when Kurt does all his acting I was so happy and wow those jumps were PERFECT! CONGRATULATIONS YOU DESERVE IT!
Kurt, you've demonstrated that it's your work ethic, your passion for your sport/ performance and that self -discipline that keeps you going is the reason for your success. Oh, your incredible talent is included in there, of course. Thanks for the memories! And best of luck in your future life!
How stunning, breathtaking, amazing, exquisite. I could go on forever. Kurt accomplished what he was destined to do, and he loved every minute of it. He took us on a fantasy with him, every time he performed. I am so thankful and grateful, that he gave me that joy.
I took my mom and Dan to see Kurt when he was performing with Stars on Ice. He blew a kiss in our direction and my mom remarked, “My boyfriend blew me a kiss”. We found out that his wife was sitting in the area we were sitting. lol but my mom loved the fantasy so we went with that! Thank you to K B for all those years of performing- we thoroughly enjoyed.
One of my most favourite skaters of all time (alongside Stojko, Sale, Pelletier, Bourne, Virtue & Moir). Congrats on a life well-lived. Thank you for setting such a wonderful example to the world! You will be missed (but happy to hear you will be choreographing). I hope CBC will bring back Battle of the Blades.
A true legend in your own time. Watching you perform on ice was always so exciting with that ever present air of anticipation for what magic would come next. Thank you so much Kurt!🌟💖
Love, love, love Kurt Browning. I was lucky enough to see him in SOI several times. He has the best feet in the business, footwork above everyone else. His fun personality and caring nature show through everything he does. He has left a fabulous legacy.
My Mom and I shared our love of figure skating. She died in 2021. Kurt and Scott were her two favorite men's skaters. Congratulations on a wonderful career of touring. My Mom is cheering you on in the afterlife.
I found it interesting that he mentioned Toller Cranston. He was incredibly athletic, entertaining, and innovative. Toller and Karen Magnusson were my skating idols. Kurt took the sport even further and kept me watching and enjoying it. Thank you, Kurt!
Just THANK YOU for all the joy. Watching you makes it easy to forget what a lifetime of work went into your programs. Enjoy retirement, you bloody legend!
Kurt was the guy you always rooted for, no matter what country you’re from! He was pure joy to watch, whether it be in completion or in Stars on Ice, and he will be missed…but NEVER forgotten! We ❤ you, Kurt! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Much love from south of the border. Kurt you will always be a star. Thanks for all you did to advance figure skating. Enjoy your next chapter of life with vigor. From a longtime fan in Connecticut USA!
What a legend. I'm a very proud Canadian of all the figure skaters but Kurt is my favourite all time. I started to cry when I see him tear up when Scott mentioned his retirement.
I've been figure skating fan since 1988 and I recorded all important meets since (till YT came along) . He to me still is one of the best step sequence magicians if not the best. I keep looking for that quality in every male skater who contend to be on top.

Kurt is like the Gene Kelly of ice skating. Such a wonderful mix of athleticism and artistry. A true entertainer. 💕
Perfect analogy. He is like the Gene Kelly of figure skating. Charming, graceful, & athletic all rolled into one.
I never get tired of watching Kurt's Singing in the Rain routine.
Loved his Singin In The Rain!
I could not have said that any better myself...So beautiful to watch...So graceful on ice ❄ ⛸
He is!
Thank you Kurt for decades of your grace and strength on the ice. You were a joy to watch.
