I interpret the MV so that the cubes are Haters and IU and V run away from them with their scars. Then they find the magic camera and they see them how they want to be perfect without scars in the idol industry. They get famose, have fun, sing on the stage, belive that it is reality. Until the Haters appear again. They try to defend themselves but it is hopeless. The Haters get more angry and lift them away from the camera/idol business/fame. And they life ends like the idols and actors in the last years. Only the clothes remain.

The mocking people trying to disrupt them and tear them apart are the critics, and in some cases, extreme fans. In the end, they're unable to stay in this idealized version of their life, their love persecuted and their life is once again consumed by the expectations of fans on idols.

I loveee this MV and their acting and the song! I've been listening and watching this on repeat since its release. The cube reminds me of a character in the netflix show, The Umbrella Academy and the theme of the series is also about an apocalypse.

Yes, It does look like either an alien invasion and they are some of the last people left, or they in the future where people that are different are hunted down. Tae is blind in one eye and IU is deaf and mute hence different or "flawed". They both look like they have either been fighting for a while or where maybe held captive or were experimented on and they were able break free. The camera lets them see what used to be or past memories or it shows them what they want to see in which case I think it was left there by the cube things to distract people and make it easier to catch them hence the pile of clothes close to were they find the camera. The maze like halls they go through and the blocked "exit" seem to herd them back to that specific place were the clothes pile is.

Tae eating mochi made me cry for NO reason.... Maybe because he looked like he didn't eat anything for a while and eating happily made me feel sad. Also, tae grabbing the stick from IU made me cry.. because he was trying to protect her. Also the part that IU covering tae's eye so he is not scared of what is coming...............................
Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals that makes the experience so personal. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't, while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. Also the right side of his face seems to have burn scars so maybe he had encountered a cube before but got away at the last minute. This cube was relentless in its pursuit and even seemed to change size so it could come into the building. Earlier when it was flying overhead you could tell no way it could fit inside those hallways. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. The camcorder that kept showing a better reality, was giving us the viewer a happier version of the events. They both rise in the air together, their bodies still solid, while the reality is that they have been turned to ash. At the top of the camcorder right before it turns off you see ash particles in the air. I also loved how the clothes landed together on the pile. Again all of this symbolizing that even though they seemingly lost to the cube, it couldn't destroy their love for each other. They stayed together in life and death, so indeed their love did win. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.
For people who watched Star Trek - the cube represents Borg, probably the scariest alien species, so I guess they attacked Earth, there is no saving from them.

The cube represents society, it is after every individual who does not comply with society's standards. Here, V is half blind and IU is deaf and dumb. In other words, they are escaping from the pressure of society. The world is controlled by these standards of perfection, so much so that people in South Korea wear masks when they don't wear make-up, feel unsafe, or wear hats when their hair is messy. MV is a dystopian view of our society. While trying to hide in this abandoned place filled with the clothes of people who died due to this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to create an illusion of what their lives might be like if they were "normal" by society's standards. It starts with their appearance, they can see what they will look like, then what they will eat, then they start to feel the illusion a little too much, to the point where they dream very well that IU can sing and V can sing too, and they can listen to her voice, marry each other, just have fun and do whatever they want They could eat because they didn't have to deal with society or any kind of pressure. However, when they try to relax a little and live their lives, the Cube (society) finds them again and pushes them to retreat and run away again, but the Cube manages to find them again and they try to survive against them. They try to fight as much as they can, but they cannot defeat a stronger system, they give up, but at least they stayed together until the end. Even though they died in the end, they loved each other deeply; This shows that people can love each other even if society is oppressive and find their soul mates even if they are not "normal or perfect" in the eyes of some. others. The pile of clothes is like in Spring Day, these people died because of injustice but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes may seem very gloomy and sad, but if you don't forget them like in Spring day MV, it can look like they are happy and free where they are now.

I loveee this MV and their acting and the song! I've been listening and watching this on repeat since its release. The cube reminds me of a character in the netflix show, The Umbrella Academy and the theme of the series is also about an apocalypse.
It would be phenomenal to put V and IU together in a series and then they would be the one to sing the OST. Such a dream project! 💜💜💜

This mv got to me so much that even after I've watched it and it's over, just my thinking about it makes me tear up.
Yes, It does look like either an alien invasion and they are some of the last people left, or they in the future where people that are different are hunted down. Tae is blind in one eye and IU is deaf and mute hence different or "flawed". They both look like they have either been fighting for a while or where maybe held captive or were experimented on and they were able break free. The camera lets them see what used to be or past memories or it shows them what they want to see in which case I think it was left there by the cube things to distract people and make it easier to catch them hence the pile of clothes close to were they find the camera. The maze like halls they go through and the blocked "exit" seem to herd them back to that specific place were the clothes pile is.
I can't stop crying IU is deaf and V is blind in one eye... That square box seems to be the entity that destroys those marginalized people and that camcorder seems to show people in a world
where they are not discriminated against

Tae eating mochi made me cry for NO reason.... Maybe because he looked like he didn't eat anything for a while and eating happily made me feel sad. Also, tae grabbing the stick from IU made me cry.. because he was trying to protect her. Also the part that IU covering tae's eye so he is not scared of what is coming...............................

Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals that makes the experience so personal. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't, while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. Also the right side of his face seems to have burn scars so maybe he had encountered a cube before but got away at the last minute. This cube was relentless in its pursuit and even seemed to change size so it could come into the building. Earlier when it was flying overhead you could tell no way it could fit inside those hallways. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. The camcorder that kept showing a better reality, was giving us the viewer a happier version of the events. They both rise in the air together, their bodies still solid, while the reality is that they have been turned to ash. At the top of the camcorder right before it turns off you see ash particles in the air. I also loved how the clothes landed together on the pile. Again all of this symbolizing that even though they seemingly lost to the cube, it couldn't destroy their love for each other. They stayed together in life and death, so indeed their love did win. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.
For people who watched Star Trek - the cube represents Borg, probably the scariest alien species, so I guess they attacked Earth, there is no saving from them.

The cube represents standards so as he broke the cube they were both set free from the criterion tired of the oppression but it came with a consequence hence why it turned red it wasn’t just one cube one problem it had multiples meaning he broke a cube filled with many hate many troubles so that’s why you can see they disappeared because they suffered the result of their actions leading to death which in a way set them free from dealing with the worlds controversies, hostility and judgement

The cube represents society, it is after every individual who does not comply with society's standards. Here, V is half blind and IU is deaf and dumb. In other words, they are escaping from the pressure of society. The world is controlled by these standards of perfection, so much so that people in South Korea wear masks when they don't wear make-up, feel unsafe, or wear hats when their hair is messy. MV is a dystopian view of our society. While trying to hide in this abandoned place filled with the clothes of people who died due to this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to create an illusion of what their lives might be like if they were "normal" by society's standards. It starts with their appearance, they can see what they will look like, then what they will eat, then they start to feel the illusion a little too much, to the point where they dream very well that IU can sing and V can sing too, and they can listen to her voice, marry each other, just have fun and do whatever they want They could eat because they didn't have to deal with society or any kind of pressure. However, when they try to relax a little and live their lives, the Cube (society) finds them again and pushes them to retreat and run away again, but the Cube manages to find them again and they try to survive against them. They try to fight as much as they can, but they cannot defeat a stronger system, they give up, but at least they stayed together until the end. Even though they died in the end, they loved each other deeply; This shows that people can love each other even if society is oppressive and find their soul mates even if they are not "normal or perfect" in the eyes of some. others.
