Dude, I was at that show! Queensrÿche had just released the EP and opened for DIO on the Holy Diver tour, one of the best concerts ever with two of the greatest vocalists in rock and metal together in their prime, it was truly a night I never forgot! Another show from that era that hit me similar was my first concert just the year before with Scorpions on the Blackout tour with Iron Maiden on The Number of the Beast tour opening, at the Cow Palace I think. So incredible! I saw them at a 16 year old back in the 80's opening for KISS at the Spectrum in Pennsylvania and was entirely enthralled thereafter. They were known as the "thinking man's metal." Keep on rocking (check out Kamelot, Circus Maximus, and TNT if you are so inclined.) :)

They’ve always always always been under appreciated. Lack of radio exposure and chicks didn’t dig them like dudes did. That’s the key to any band of that era getting any heat: how many groupies lined up to both give and receive STDs. Chicks put Poison over the top, so…

As one of the biggest Queensryche fans over the years, I couldn't agree more! I got here over the course of connecting dots on many recent artists and came across a cover of QotR which brought me to this video. I just so happened to expand the only comment that caught my eye that was 1 year old only to find out Mike posted 4 hours ago about Scott leaving. How does this happen?! Chris, Scott, original Queensryche told an amazing story over the years and I'm honored to have experienced the rise and fall in my lifetime!

I'm 54 and I remember when I first heard this song in the 7th grade in 1984 I was completely in awe with their sound. I couldn't stop listening to it. An insanely awesome song and band. One of the most underated heavy metals bands of the 80's. Their sound was unique and Geoff Tate and the entire band were so musically talented. I still listen to them today. Great memories.

I have a similar memory. I was about 11 when I first heard this. It was a Saturday night and I had the stereo on low as grandpa disapproved of "metal". I was blown away, even at that volume. I remember telling my elder cousin about the band the next day and he laughed at me. Few months later, I caught him listening to mindcrime.
I heard it around the same age but years later since im much younger than y'all. I cannot believe I've never seen this before, in all the millennia I've been online. Geoff Tate was one of the first, if not the only one, to do high pitched banshee wailing correctly. I know others will say... Merciful Fate... etc... And some of that passes the grade... but nobody got it better that Geoff, and for that matter, when it come to arrangements, sound and over-all kicking ass, Original Queensryche is still among the top 10 Metal bands of all-time.

The absolute best band I ever saw live (mid eighties). The lead singer sounds exactly like this live. His mike went out during the show and you could still hear him in the arena. Amazing show!
When I was a deployed marine in Okinawa (1988) there was a club near Camp Hansen called the East Coast Club that had a screen as one of the walls. The first time I ever walked in this was playing on the screen and it was so loud it shook the club!
I was deployed to Oki in '94 and '96! They still had the screen there, and I would always request this--much to the annoyance of the other Marines in the place, who would rather have been listening to Soundgarden or Tool. Oh well, tough breaks!
I'm going there next time I hit Okinawa! If I ever get liberty, that is. 😂 Although I'm probably gonna hear the mainstream rap that these fucking kids listen to now-a-days. 🙄
Queensryche kicked major ass with their debut EP. But they decided to take a progressive direction and just cancelled themselves as the most underrated metal band, unfortunately.
The first 40 seconds is my favorite intro for a rock song. Just killer! You don't have to sit and wonder if this song is gonna finally kick into gear at some point. Grabs you right from the start.
Chris and Geoff were the heart and soul of the band. They were the storytellers. You couldn't pay me to go see the current line up. Nothing against TLT as a vocalist, but for me, it hurts me to my core to hear him sing Geoff's songs.
mskARin888 indeed. Geoff's voice and Degarmo guitar skills ..bottom line between Operation Mindcrime and Empire, that was the height and demise of the band. best they ever composed.
In my honest opinion this is one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever! If you would to introduce someone to heavy metal who never heard it before this is a great song to start with. It has almost everything killer vocals, fantasy themed lyrics, driving riffs & blasting drums.
When I was back in high school, KLOS of Los Angeles was giving away tickets to the first 100 callers to Queensryche at the Hollywood Palladium. A few weeks prior, for another concert, I had heard the DJ laughing at one of the winners who used the San Diego phone number to 'sneak' in for a win. So, I figured, what the heck; I dialed the San Diego number probably running up the phone bill for my parents, and voila! I won tickets. I couldn't get the car that night, so a metal head friend with an old 70's Cadillac Coupe de Ville hand me down car was invited, and it was quite the show. If I remember, the opening act was Carmine Appice's King Cobra. Oh, and I got a cassette of one of the albums which was played on the way home in my buddy's car, LOL
F'n Queensryche, there is no substitute!! Have seen Geoff 2 x's in the last 1 year, and at 63 he still absolutely crushes it, night after night.. his voice has held up extremely well!!
Yes, but then came the grunge. And they got their grunge on everything. So much grunge it stopped the lead solos for awhile, BUT! Metal lived on! And where is the grunge? Washed away by all that Seattle rain. Ironic that the whole grunge thing came out of the same city that produced Queensryche.
This was a great era to be a teen. So much fantastic metal was out and coming out each month. Today .... I cant tell todays bands apart. This gem is from the days when bands all had a sound. You couldn't cover it accurately. Now any pub act can cover the so called top metal acts as they all have the same vocal and guitar sounds.
vladlashing Well today we have Sabaton and Powerwolf, their not quite like the music from the late 70s to mid 90s, but I’d say their distinguishable and are pretty good.
There are some pretty good bands out there today, but you have to look to find them. The popular "metal" scene is blah. The vocals all sound exactly the same. The sorry assed tone of the guitars too.
There are great metal bands today. Defecto, Primal Fear, Cain's Offering, Stratovarius, Enemy Inside, Megadeth (still king), Dream Evil, Beast in Black, Adagio, Dynazty, Judas Priest (still powerful as ever), and many many more
The singer, Geoff Tate, was instructed as a teenager by his aunt, who was an opera singer. He learned proper breathing technique and he could bridge the gap between chest voice and falsetto with no break.....and of course with great power.
Everthing from the 60's to 90's really shaped music with energy and adventure, almost like a endless indiana jones movie and soundtrack all mixed in perfect balance!
remember when this cassette came out. it was only four songs. but i played that sucker over and over. every now and then had to stick a pencil in the cassette hole to unwind the tape. lol!
Yeah man, I bought the album when it came out. At that time, I remember reading in Hit Parader or Circus Magazine that some record company thought it was so good that they released the LP with only four songs.
Empire Tour . LONGBEACH. They played full empire album. Old school material . Thought they opened with warning. *they shut the lights down.?.. then played full Mindcrime with the vhs version playing double screen. Insanity!!!!! We drove quiet in the car. Was Great!
A great combination of a fabulous singer with super talented musicians. The amount of talent coming out of this band is way beyond the norm. They are definitely on the front line in my book!!!
Wasent into this record much but when brother came visit me London he brought be mindcrime album. I was hook see them Geoff sang 3.5 hours it bad ass concert
I found Queensryche when Empire came out and I was hooked! I had to listen to as much as I could. Thanks, Queensryche for giving us so much kick ass music!
When I was in New York City in 1987 my dad bought me a stereo and a set of badass JVC speakers I recorded a bunch of songs off the radio this was one of them and I went down to Washington Park where all the head shops were and found this tape it had 4 songs on one side and the same 4 songs on the other side I had all kids of songs recorded on 2 tapes I stop by my buddy dinkys house in Baltimore and forgot them I stop back like 3 months later and he said he let his buddy borrow them and said no big deal he don't know where they were he said there only tapes. That took me 2 months in New York to make I was mad as hell
Better than Rage for order? Sorry bro, the EP is great but Rage for order is the best thing this band has EVER released. Empire is commercial garbage (for the most part, there are a couple nice songs on it), Mindcrime was a great album, but it was more of the EP/Warning sound than anything. Rage for order is probably the most diverse collection of songs on a single album in the entire discography.
Rage For Order is good. But I am sorry The Warning is the best. Been my favorite for many years now! And you hear his best and highest ranges in that album from beginning to end!

Queensrÿche Queen Of The Reich Lyrics
In the dead of night
She'll come and take you away
Searing beams of light and thunder
Over blackened plains
She will find her way
Flying high through the night
She will hide your fate
As she takes your soul from under
And the blinding light of the castle fades
There is no escape
It's the ending of your precious life
Your soul slipped away
It belongs to the Queen of the Reich
The Queen of the Reich
Yeah she's coming for you
You're fading away
Your life cast astray
A victim the beast shall obtain
The light will not shine
For you'll die tonight at her shrine
And black is the last thing you'll see
Over and over
Dreams of dying fill your head
It's the sign of the cross
That you'll find ahead
No one will answer
The light is fading away
Captive souls are screaming out in pain
There is no escape
It's the ending of your precious life
Your soul slipped away
It belongs to the Queen of the Reich
You're fading away, No, No, No
The Queen of the Reich
You're slipping away, yeah
The Queen of the Reich

The absolute best band I ever saw live (mid eighties). The lead singer sounds exactly like this live. His mike went out during the show and you could still hear him in the arena. Amazing show!
No radio can play this loud enough
I remember my brother gave me this record . I was loving this album .
When I was a deployed marine in Okinawa (1988) there was a club near Camp Hansen called the East Coast Club that had a screen as one of the walls. The first time I ever walked in this was playing on the screen and it was so loud it shook the club!
MrGreenwood8 That has got to be 'one for the record books' of your memories... Hell Yeahhhhh!! musta been incredibly Rad! 🤘
That's amazing. They got big in Japan
the most underated metal band
Nanny Wolfe I think that's Angel Witch.
Couldn't agree more
Queensryche kicked major ass with their debut EP. But they decided to take a progressive direction and just cancelled themselves as the most underrated metal band, unfortunately.
Warlord... Savatage... Titan Force... are underrated bands... Queensryche definetely no.
If you're going to make a stupid comment at least spell check it prior to posting.
geoff tate, amazing amazing singer
Yup
He is one of the very best vocalists
It resambles Bruce Dickinson imo
@@TrixxxTC Waaaaaay better..!!!!!
@@TrixxxTC closer to the metal God I'd say. And phenomenal live!
The dude could sing. Holy buckets
The first 40 seconds is my favorite intro for a rock song. Just killer! You don't have to sit and wonder if this song is gonna finally kick into gear at some point. Grabs you right from the start.
Fucken A
Moral of the story of this video ....
Without Geoff the rest of the band is frozen in time.
..
robhalfordtate Damn right!
Your right , without geoff they should retire
And without chris degarmo
But they'd be on and endless search for vocals like this and quickly get discouraged lol
2021 and I'm still waiting for the continuation
when the total awesomeness of the song completely negates the cheese of the video , and we watch again , and again , and again ;)
Incredible vocal range, love it
When I was back in high school, KLOS of Los Angeles was giving away tickets to the first 100 callers to Queensryche at the Hollywood Palladium.
Nice, that San Diego phone number probably had a 714 area code.
F'n Queensryche, there is no substitute!! Have seen Geoff 2 x's in the last 1 year, and at 63 he still absolutely crushes it, night after night.. his voice has held up extremely well!!
Absolutely phenomenal live. Was lucky enough to see operation livecrime…..amazing
Love this video ❤❤❤ It belongs in the Criterion collection
I remember hearing this in GTA Vice City stories as a teenager and the song blew me away.
Please bring back the 80's....!!! Best decade ever...!!!
Yes!!!!!!!!!
#bringbackthe80s
Amen...the best period...
Easy.... you don't have to tone low to be heavy..😂🤣... if anyone knows that reference. 👌
LOL The most kitschy maybe. But yes, it was funny 😊
Couldn't agree more. Started with Iron Maiden and I never looked back.
There are some pretty good bands out there today, but you have to look to find them. The popular "metal" scene is blah. The vocals all sound exactly the same. The sorry assed tone of the guitars too.
There are great metal bands today. Defecto, Primal Fear, Cain's Offering, Stratovarius, Enemy Inside, Megadeth (still king), Dream Evil, Beast in Black, Adagio, Dynazty, Judas Priest (still powerful as ever), and many many more
I agree. I was also teenager in eighties.
How lucky we were!
This kicks... so much,,, asss!!! Song so epic, you have to have a movie next it.
this mini LP and Helloween are the best 5 song album
The first time time I saw them was In 1982 , with that EP album, amazing , in Montreal
Anyone else here still listening in 1984?
😂
Still waiting for Part II...
Dan Steffens We are Part 2. The smartphones have consumed our minds.
I wish a part 2 ... Too be continued was fallowed up !!!!!!
Even now in 2023, I'm still waiting for the sequel.
3:42 - Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnndddd........JUMP!
Genius to drive on this song in Gta VSC
yesss
I discover this master piece back in 2006, on gta vice city stories, vrock radio station
Super cheezy video to an epic song. I loved this EP
That scream at the start gives Rob Halford a run for his money, superb performance
How does he sing like that? Damn!
tight pants.
"He eats a lot of pussy!"
Mixed voice
Mixed emotions.
The singer, Geoff Tate, was instructed as a teenager by his aunt, who was an opera singer. He learned proper breathing technique and he could bridge the gap between chest voice and falsetto with no break.....and of course with great power.
Who else had the cassette copy with the same program on both sides? Great times!!
Man, the vocals.......
I remember this song when I was a kid, never forgotten. That voice though!!! 😅🙏🏽
How old are you now okay I'm 53 and my wife is 55 okay let me know okay
One of the best yet underrated bands of that era!
I saw them when they only had the EP out at a small club in Boston OMG blew me away -- That voice - such an amazing band
Can anyone name a truly better song by Queensryche? I cant.
the Warning is in my top 5 favorite albums
"to be continued" I'm still waiting after almost 40yrs.
Empire Tour . LONGBEACH. They played full empire album. Old school material . Thought they opened with warning.
*they shut the lights down.?.. then played full Mindcrime with the vhs version playing double screen.
Insanity!!!!!
We drove quiet in the car. Was Great!
This video is like a mix between Star Wars and Flash Gordon
Aaron Nielsen And Downs Syndrome
Aaron Nielsen bam!!
Haha, exactly! it's like kissing your sister :)
I'd say Conan and Terminator
More like Star Crash and Flesh Gordon (the erotic parody).
This is my all timd fave queensryche song ever made, first time i heard it it gave me the best fucking metal feeling ever
Fun fact:They got their name from this song.Queenreich sounded too nazi ish so it was changed to Queensryche.
"metal feeling" yeah man that's a thing that cannot be described. when your ears fill with a sound that makes you shiver....
Tristan Hall YES! Mine too..it never gets old...great vocals - excellent guitar riffs and explosive damn drums!
Rock the fuck on bitches! \m/ \m/
Seen them play as a support band to the late great Dio and have loved this band ever since
Joe Buckley lucky dude , i saw dio 1994 with freak of nature
1986 Cumberland county arena. Me and my homie Kirby saw them open for Ozzy. Aside from Rob Halford. Never heard lungs like that. Before.
Wow. I didn't know "the story of queensryche". Such a cool concept and very 80s era. Super job for posting this video. Thanks. God Bless.
Rockenfield plays the drums in this vid like a pianist during a grand performance!
My first time seeing this video. I've danced to this song, on stage, over 200 times lol. Thanks
BY FAR, One of the TOP US Power Metal songs in History of Metal Music! \m/
BOLLOCKS
Although this song is Power metal
Just Heavy Metal....
True.
This is the greatest music video of all time. The cheese level is a thing of legends
Got an opportunity to see them live in Toronto
Opened for Metallica 1989
🤘😎🤘🇨🇦🤘😎🤘
Ahh, the 80s. The decade of cheese videos. The song and EP are still bloody amazing.
3:22 amazing special effects 10/10
xD
A great combination of a fabulous singer with super talented musicians. The amount of talent coming out of this band is way beyond the norm. They are definitely on the front line in my book!!!
Wasent into this record much but when brother came visit me London he brought be mindcrime album. I was hook see them Geoff sang 3.5 hours it bad ass concert
I found Queensryche when Empire came out and I was hooked!
I had to listen to as much as I could.
Thanks, Queensryche for giving us so much kick ass music!
Ragazzi che tempi!!!
Geoff la tua voce è insostituibile ed irripetibile
Grazie di esistere❤️
When riding a car in gta vcs..i always waiting this song on radio, damn memories..
Same, dude.
These guys are Elite. When i found them in 1988 i was like 'OMG' 🤟
I was a member of the first fan club before they got famous. There motto was "rocking down the door" and I remember the only album out was the EP
Have The Ep!! Signed From Here In Grand Rapids, MI!! Many Years Ago!!
I think this EP is better than Rage For Order. I'm a younger fan and I'm a newer fan. They were formed in a place that is hours from where I live :)
