    I love finding relatable cross stitch content, its few and far between. Please continue! At the age of 23 I thought I was the only person in their twenties cross stitching!

    Thanks for the video. It was super fun to watch… watched it all the way through. I’ve been curious to see how you work a piece from the center. In the video you are working the bottom right quadrant. What do you do for the other quadrants? Do you rotate the piece, doing it effectively upside down in parts? Do you work your x from right to left, working away from the centre in the bottom left quadrant? Fortunately I’ll be doing just a small Christmas ornament so I won’t have to stress over this. It’s great to be able to learn from watching you do the stitching.

      Thanks for watching!! I’ve been thinking it’s time for another one of these so your comment came at the perfect time ☺️
      On these bigger pieces, I start in the middle and then go where my heart tells me lol, I am an artist so I think of it like sketching the focal point of the piece and then it’s easier to build around it and I have to do less counting. If there are parts that are harder to reach comfortably in the hoop, I totally turn it upside down! Mainly the bottom bits. I try not to waste my fabric so I work with slimmer margins than others probably do.
      I really just live by the mantra that hobbies are supposed to be fun so if it’s not feeling fun, change it up. I don’t really have one consistent method as it changes based on my mood lol!

    Awesome vid. I JUST started cross stitching. As in I did my first lil thing today. It was a quarter sized Kirby. Took me almost 4 hours lmao. Was fun but I think the fabric I used was smaller than yours, because when it was done you can’t see any white. I’m using 3 threads (half my floss) for what I did. I found it super difficult when having to find and get through a hole that was already occupied by 2+ threads. I mean I did it but that just took forever. And I didn’t always make them the same way because the paths I would choose idk, just didn’t lend itself to keeping the way I did a stitch the same. Love your nails by the way

    They take a lot of time. I'm working on Christmas stockings for my kids and it takes about 2 years for me to finish a stocking. I'm not a super fast stitcher and I don't work every day but I do put a lot of time in and it takes a while. This is definitely a process craft, just enjoy the process.

      I haven’t had a problem with it so far! It flattens them a little but that’s not a big deal in cross stitch - I’ve always been a little wary of doing that with embroidery projects though!

    • @EmmalynEtc
      @EmmalynEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You’re good! ☺️ I usually use 2 strands for 14 count fabric or smaller (16, 18, 20 count etc.). If you’re using anything bigger like 11 count, I would use 3 strands for better coverage!

    I'm still very new to cross stitch.
    I know it depends on the type of material being used but, is it normal for the material colour to show through the thread?
    As I started a big printed piece and I've started a bit using 3 threads instead of two and I'm worried I'll run out of thread.
    I really should have gotten a small piece for my first one.

    • @EmmalynEtc
      @EmmalynEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I definitely bit off more than I could chew when I first started cross stitching! It's deceptively difficult lol.
      As far as fabric color showing - it all depends on the weave of fabric you're using! The pattern I'm using in this video, for instance, calls for 16 count Aida but I had the perfect size piece of 14 count I wanted to use up so, because the squares are slightly bigger than they're supposed to be, a little more white shows through on mine. Anything 16 count or smaller (meaning bigger #s, more squares per inch), you should be safe with 2 strands. Anything bigger and it's worth maybe using 3.
      I know that was a long explanation, but I'll also say that crafting should be FUN and I think there's way too many rules and too much gatekeeping in crafting communities sometimes. Do whatever feels right and looks great to you! :)

    • @AnimeLover1994100
      @AnimeLover1994100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@EmmalynEtc Thanks for the reply. I really did bite of more than I could chew as the one I have is nearly 60*80cm
      I think mine is 14 count. I already started mine( going by the grid roughly 200-300 stitches)
      Do you think it would look odd to suddenly change to 2 threads?
      Or since it's such a big piece you wouldn't really notice in the end.

    • @AnimeLover1994100
      @AnimeLover1994100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EmmalynEtc It's actually 11CT I have not 14.

    • @EmmalynEtc
      @EmmalynEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Honestly if it’s 11ct fabric I’d stick with the 3 threads! Remember if it starts to be not fun to work on, put it away for a while and maybe do an easy small project in the meantime the refresh you palate a bit and take the pressure off. I think if you’re going to put a massive amount of time into a big piece, you want the end result to be worth the effort and switching to 2 threads partway through might be something that would always bother you when you looked at it completed 💕

    • @AnimeLover1994100
      @AnimeLover1994100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@EmmalynEtc Thanks for the help, I think I'll stick with 3 then. If I do end up running out hopefully the company will help, if not I'll just have to find the best match from my own thread.
      If I do find myself getting annoyed, I'll just go back to making bracelets or diamond painting for a while.

    Hello. do you use different number of threads on different colors?

  • @melaniekiper5590
    @melaniekiper5590 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Nice. But you would be more efficient and use less thread if you stitched in rows, first doing all the forward slash stitches of the same color in a row (working left to right), and then doing all the back slash stitches in the same color in the row (working right to left), then moving to the next row. This is faster, and your stitches will look more consistent. Never seen anyone stitch each separate X like you do.

    • @meonfox1478
      @meonfox1478 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I stitch like that too, it's the english Method. I Think there are a Lot of People stitching like that..

    • @EmmalynEtc
      @EmmalynEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Interesting! I think the method you're referring to is the Danish method while doing the complete X is the English method. I do both depending on where I want my thread to end up. Honestly, a lot of the fun of cross-stitch for me is the puzzle of getting my thread from one point to another while "bridging" as little as possible and with complicated patterns that use lots of small color sections and even individual stitches, I find it easier to use the English method a majority of the time. Floss is so cheap, I'm not too concerned with using a little more if it means a more fun experience! :)
