This came at the perfect time for me, first time healing in this game and I picked Astro. I just hit 50 and have been scared to try and heal trials. Ty!
It’s so easy I love Astro. Especially now they made Astro so much better. It took me time to really read and understand the actions. After some time it comes naturally.
Man. I’ve been searching for all kinds of guides but always get confused with most videos way of explaining. You give a dumbed down version with examples and easy to follow guidelines/explain skills. Love it. Thank you!
Been in this game since the first BETA and loved WHM healing early on. Amazing the changes over the years to what we now play! Recently, I had gotten my AST up to level 80 but never did really understand fully how to run it. Rather, I never could retain all of the info with respect to it between interruptions for real life and work so decided I didn't want to play it. It was "too busy" for me and I was already too busy!! I wanted jobs to be clean and lean on instructions as there is so much to adjust to in any fight. That said, I am glad I found your video today as I finally found a desire to face the challenge of moving AST forward, I truly wanted to have some understanding so I could enoy the process. I think this video is the best I have seen so far to get me moving on AST again. I will watch again and bookmark for later as I move to 90 and the higher end of content. Not gonna savage but I think I will enjoy the dance of the Astrologian from now on!
For me, my healxiety goes away when you play with the right people. In my case it was my friend, the people in his FC, and even some nice people in the Novice Network. I played Scholar and got it all the way to 50. Finished ARR and got to HW and stopped right around where you fight Shiva and meet Ysale. So after years+ hiatus, I've just recently started it back up and just reached the Final Steps of Faith msq today. But getting back into the swing, playing content past lvl 50, and getting used to all the new stuff/changes was a challenge. I ran Aetherochemical for the first time yesterday and I had to do it twice. I warned the party in the chat that it was my first time running this, I was still rusty, and all the polite warnings I could give. But man, that tank kept pulling too many mobs. And when I would ask about the boss mechanics/advice I'd just get snarky retorts back. So we wiped and they eventually left the duty. Second tank comes along and actually pays attention to what I said. Whole thing goes smoothly and I didn't feel like I was constantly having heart palpitations like the previous tank. The point is we've reached a milestone in the game where so many people are playing and there's many different levels of skill. There are people who are trying to better themselves. Understand that you're not alone and there are many different resources you can utilize to help you play. No matter what your role is, if you find people who aren't snarky bags of crap to play with you really will do okay. 👍
I too just came back recently after years away. SCH did indeed take some getting reacquainted with, as did WHM, my old main. I had first left to join another friend on a different server, where I learned my love for SCH since I didn't just want to do WHM again, but then they stopped playing and I did too, so when I finally came back I went back to my old main and had to level SCH (didnt take too long to pass WHM, was already 38) back up to main it again. I immediately got thrown in with some wild full section pulling tanks, it was interesting to say the least lol, certainly pulls you back in fast when you have to relearn it on the fly. We did wipe a couple times, tank started apologizing and im just like, dude its cool, I just rejoined, im sure Im not doing everything totally correct to heal you either, we laughed, did it again, and it all worked out. I love how most people in 14 are pretty chill. This is why I seeked out a SCH vid to check if what I am doing is anywhere close to right, turns out mostly yes except for high level, and I love these vids so now I am going to learn all the healers. It has been enjoyable coming back, only reason I really left was lack of decent internet and no friends playing anymore, I did miss this game.
Omg this guide is perfect! Thank you so much for it! Also idk if anyone’s mentioned this, but as someone who always forgets what the pink and blue borders mean, the phrase “A for melee” has been a life saver. Meaning if the card name has an “A” in it then give it to a melee class.
10:37 collective is more of a mitigation tool then a regeneration tool despite the fact the regeneration last longer thats because if you time it right before a raid wide happens you can still get the mitigation off which lasts for about 4 seconds while still casting as well as have the regeneration applied DONT just use this ability for stack markers this ability is basically reprisal with a party wide regen added on to it and should be used for whenever the party is about to take damage
In this video, I said I use it as a party wide regen mostly and for stack markers. Of course it can used for other stuff, but rarely do I cast for the damage mitigation since your character stops moving and cant attack. Players will understand to use this when party is going to take damage but most players hold onto it without using it at all focused on damage mitigation effect. Which would be a waste
Thank you for this video! I left FFXIV for awhile and couldn't quite get Astro to make sense when I returned but your explanations of each move along with when you would use it in either a dungeon/raid fight helped me get back on track! I feel more at ease now - Thank you thank you!
Thank you for this, extremely helpful info! I watched one of your old AST videos recently that finally broke my healxiety and I dove in. Around lvl 50 now and learning the role has been some of the most fun I've had in FFXIV
Great guide! I mained AST up until Endwalker and when I went to play it again I was totally thrown off by the changes... Thanks for the good info and keep up the good work! :)
Other things to look for are the names of cards with the letter "a" are for melee buffs, I think of it as "a" for "area", if it doesn't have an "a" in the name it's for ranged buff. Also, outside the border, on either side of the card on the class gauge, there's either a "+" for melee buffs or a , sort of, "o" for ranged buffs. I think the "+" looks like a sword, and the "o" looks like a crystal ball. I'm partially color blind, and wish those borders were even more different when there's a lot of action going on, to see at a quick glance.
I really appreciate how you segment your guides based on level. :) I find myself coming back and watching sections when I get a few more skills and can't quite figure out where they fit in my "rotation". I think a lot of guides and discussion tend to be focused towards endgame where a player has access to their full kit, but really these guides are needed the most when a player is still figuring out the job and have big chunks of their kit missing. Like talking about lilies for WHM is meaningless to a leveling WHM who just got Regen and Holy and hasn't started Heavensward.
Thank you so much for your updated healing guide so helpful! For me getting over healing anxiety is playing with friends. When i first started healing i had a friend that was a tank and playing with a friend allowed me to get over my fear :)
i needed this guide badly. my MT friend who also plays AST helped me learning the regens but im still falling short without him, so this vid totally answers some things i am lacking with my rotation :D tyyyy!

I love astro so much 😍 I loved it before 6.0 and I love it now! I'm really happy with the card system edit. Having the crowns separate has been really helpful. Lady comes in handy for oopsies!
personally i dislike that crowns are separate. i liked having the ability to turn trash cards into something useful. now all i can do is un-draw them. i do like having divination as an ability. for being such a big thing for astro pre endwalker it was super annoying to have it on a 2 min cd when the whole point of the re-work for the class was to use the cards for this spell. i still prefer old astro but i'm liking endwalker astro waaaaay better than shadowbringers astro.
I’ve enjoyed white mage because it’s pretty chill but I feel like I’m not doing much so I’m gonna be orn to AST and scholar that way I help more. Ast feels overwhelming but watching videos and understanding what to use and when I feel like it’s a strong asset to the team
Thanks for this video. Last time I touched AST was in Stormblood and I had no idea what I was doing. Now that I really understand weaving I switched over to AST to max it and was wonder how I’m gonna handle all these damn oGCDs. Thanks for breaking it down. Please do more job videos if you have the chance, this format is perfect for people who generally know how to play but want to know how some actions should be utilized and paced throughout a fight/dungeon. :)
Really?! I never thought to do dps guide in this style since there a little more rigid then healer and tanks but I can try it out and see. Any job specifically?
@@BunBossFFXIV Maybe it's just my perspective as a healer main but the thing I find most needed is what certain skills are actually *for* on a conceptual level. For instance, I'm returning to RDM after 4 years and while there are tons of resources on the endgame, ideal rotation, I don't actually know why certain skills are used and what the priorities are (this may be mostly a healer thing) so I don't quite necessarily know how to recover from mistakes or adjust to certain situations. As an example, some of the questions I have with RDM are: 1. When is the best time to initiate a melee combo? 2. What range should my black/white magic values be within? Are there any quick ways to adjust to mistakes? 3. What are Sharpcast and Manafication accomplishing in the context of a rotation? 4. Which skills should be used on cooldown and which can be saved for certain things (and how long is it generally ok to save them)? While there are tons or rotation guides that list the skills and tell you what to do, what I felt this AST guide really dug into the conceptual usages of AST's kit and allowed me to understand what an optimized healer "rotation" would look like and entail. It also helps me adjust to lower level content. Of course these are aspects you could intuit while playing the job and start really using these skills, and perhaps I'm overcomplicating DPS since I'm applying Healer priority systems to DPS skills. But as a player returning to RDM after dropping it during Stormblood, it's takes awhile to relearn how ~20 odd skills interact again. Like honestly, I still don't know what the hell Reprise is for.
I have found that for a new healer (White mage, Scholar and Sage) that the Borzja Front offers a great opportunity to practice and hone your skills before setting foot in high level dungeons/raids. Everything up to the MSQ dungeon is pretty easy. After that is when the mechanics get hard. Borzja helps with that.
After Sage I was happy to reconnect with my main ASTRO and it was a blast 😊 so many ways to heal and buff !!! Thanks for the video and I can't wait for the sage one because even tho the tank can be bad or not focused I canadjust easily with astro or Scholar but it's still a challenge with Sage
nah sage, can be a little difficult until you get everything at level 90 and the updated heal master for kardion, makes a good different in dungeon running, but they dont have as much as pure healing as the other jobs do, but the idea is to not let them get super low, as you can always have mitigation and shield on everyone. I am working on the sage one now :D
Thank you very much for this informative guide! My second main is AST and I was really worried because I'm quite struggling with the level 90 dungeons: if the tank isn't mitigating properly or even just a tad below the ideal item level, I have to quit dpsing altogether to keep them alive :( "Am I suddenly bad at AST?" was what I was thinking, but the stat squish you mentioned probably plays a big role in this. Plus, I always used to keep Neutral Sect for emergency situations. After this video, I tried it on mobs like you said, and it really made the difference, so thank you! I hope to get used to new AST soon, as I like playing in busy-mode :D
Your welcome! Super glad it was able to help! 🥰 yea it was kinda hard at first until I updated my gear and everyone got comfortable in there respective roles
Honestly i leveled up Astro this past week to learn to overcome my Healxiety and i'm currently 78, Having a Fucking Blast. I play on PC with a controller so my main thing to really overcome is learning to how optimally target teammates with specific cards, especially in 8-man content. I feel that I may need to tweak my settings a bit because I feel I lose out on a GCD due to how slow i can be when slapping cards on people.
Sorry, will keep in mind for next time! Catch one of my Wednesday or Friday livestreams and happy to run a few dungeons so you can see. Just remind me in chat!
Thanks for the video! I moslty mained healer on my previous MMO experiences. I skipped that side of mine in FF14 but now my healer itch starts growing. I wonder which one of the healer class is enjoyable. Astro mechanics look interesting.
Curious about the changes they are going to make in patch 2.5 I have a feeling they will remove draw and just let you gain 1 card every 30 seconds. And minie arcana might be changed into something like asize.
Really wish tanks can just desist with all the BIG MOB PULLS. 9 out of 10 times we die because of this (the other 1/10 is death by mechanics). I don't have room to do DPS when I am forced to constantly heal, and then the monsters just don't die quick enough before I lose the war of attrition over heal and damage.
What are your thoughts on using macros for drawing/playing cards? I started playing Astrologian (PC on controller) and found mapping out the buttons to be pretty frustrating, so I made two macros for Minor Arcana/Crown Play and Draw/Play. Now I can press, target and press again on the same button to use a card. I've only just done this yesterday and was wondering if this method will hurt me more than help later down the road (currently at lv 52)
I havent personally used macros for that, but I know Xavius which is in my discord has currently switched to macros for it and he loves it. You can join in and ask him if you would like to get some true feedback. He is always happy to help
thoughts of switching from scholar to astro? im like soooooooo scared but at the same time scholar seems JUST A TAD too simple for me. I started ffxiv about 2-3 weeks ago. Assuming SCH is a 5/10 in difficulty level, how would you rate astro?
nahhh you can start with any healer at all, the difference in learning healing is actually when you switch healing jobs and are used to the one you have been playing
i've started as Astrologian, so the rest of the healers feels kinda..."downgrade" compared with AST, either that or i'm failing to understand WHM and SCH
Me before touching new astro: What the fuck did they do to you? Me playing New Astro: Well, I didn't think I'd say this... but I like this... Astro stay with me... may the stars ever be in our favor.
the real tip for high-level AST play is make damn sure your party members know the boss mechanics and for the love of god don't cast ranged skills from a continent away
@@BunBossFFXIV That would be a very nice thing to do. I've been lvling up an astro to lvl 56 since i watch your video, but a guide for controller would be very usefull ! Thanks !
The only time you'll probably be lacking in the mp department is if you're in a raid and people are constantly eating mechanics and deaths. Source: me having run the Nier raids and people just flat-out eating constant death, and being the lucky soul to have to scrape people off the floor.
So im loving the astro and ive even cleared the new Hydaleyn extreme with it but im still a little confused about what to do when multiple group members fall to low HP and i dont have time to heal them all. I always use ny regen and Helios but i feel like WHM is just stronger at those pure spot heals to bring peoples HP up quickly. Any advice?
@@BunBossFFXIV Having started a healer, I kinda feel like both become just easier with increasing level because the damage doesn't changes, but you get more ogcd heals with ridiculous effects slapped on to you. Having jumped to healer as my main role very recently, literally having reached level 90 with my sage only 2 weeks ago, I don't get the Selphie playstyle, when the game gives you so many ogcd tools, especially as a sage.
This healer just over complicated for no reason with card system, in difficult counted you already have enough to worry about, whm is just plain light years better
What I love about the AST is that it doesn’t suffer from mp issues like the other healers
This
Yes verily. Mp becomes a suggestion instead of a factor

@@BunBossFFXIV I appreciate the offer and will consider it
thoughts of switching from scholar to astro? im like soooooooo scared but at the same time scholar seems JUST A TAD too simple for me. I started ffxiv about 2-3 weeks ago. Assuming SCH is a 5/10 in difficulty level, how would you rate astro?
Malefic as in Maleficent ( strong e instead of a ). Same with Benefic
5:30 *change once, right? Im not missing something here? :)
yea used when it can be able to use when you use play
i feel like i would need to watch every AST guide for every new expansion since this job always got changes & reworks each expansion🤣
I cannot do damage as astro, but my healing is insane!
How come your Vierra ain't got no pants on? Lol.
Nice guide, appreciate the tips.
Um so I have a question. I love this aesthetic. Cause I love stars and space. BUT would you reccommend I switch to White Mage to understand healers?
nahhh you can start with any healer at all, the difference in learning healing is actually when you switch healing jobs and are used to the one you have been playing
i've started as Astrologian, so the rest of the healers feels kinda..."downgrade" compared with AST, either that or i'm failing to understand WHM and SCH
Me before touching new astro: What the fuck did they do to you?
Me playing New Astro: Well, I didn't think I'd say this... but I like this... Astro stay with me... may the stars ever be in our favor.
love this!
the real tip for high-level AST play is make damn sure your party members know the boss mechanics and for the love of god don't cast ranged skills from a continent away
😂😂😂
hello , I play Astro in a controller and I always either give the cards to my self or the tank so i dont loose uptime . is that ok ?
Eh you want to prioritize dps for sure where you can
I'm using a controller and I'm very afraid of playing healer, because of targeting allies. Is this really a problem, how do you get use to it ?
I don't have a problem with it, I will be putting out a controller guide for healer targeting trhough :D
@@BunBossFFXIV That would be a very nice thing to do. I've been lvling up an astro to lvl 56 since i watch your video, but a guide for controller would be very usefull ! Thanks !
Wait…you can actually stack the effects of aspected benefic and aspected Helios?
Yessss 🥰🥰🥰
Astro has so many spells compare to white mage how do you fit them all on your cross hotbar
Cross hot bar guide coming soon :)
The only time you'll probably be lacking in the mp department is if you're in a raid and people are constantly eating mechanics and deaths.
Source: me having run the Nier raids and people just flat-out eating constant death, and being the lucky soul to have to scrape people off the floor.
Lmaooooo
So im loving the astro and ive even cleared the new Hydaleyn extreme with it but im still a little confused about what to do when multiple group members fall to low HP and i dont have time to heal them all. I always use ny regen and Helios but i feel like WHM is just stronger at those pure spot heals to bring peoples HP up quickly. Any advice?
I've been going Neutral Sect -> Lightspeed -> Aspected Helios -> Helios if needed after with Lightspeed they turn those two into instant casts!
@@reiiriing5910 Yesss thank you. Great idea!!
Yea what Reiirii said! I mentioned it in the video, but just really quickly!
“Limit Break 3” If I’m playing healer, then needing to LB3 means something, somehow has gone stupid wrong 😭😭😭
🤣🤣
I'm only interested in trying healing (specifically astrologian) just so I can cosplay as a Yugioh character.
Is that a good reason? 😅
Yes, yes it is
Scholar beginner friendly?
Mmmm yeeeee absolutely since dungeons 1-30 you fairy is doing all the healing haha
Bst thing about ASTRO is UNLIMITED MANA boiiii
hahah for sure! mana cost where
i feel like sage is easy as white mage, while scholar is more difficult like astro.
I think there all easy except for Astro in terms of button pressing but I think sage and Astro are more advanced mindset wise
MP is a non issue in AST, but you are right WHM is as straightforward as they come.
