I literally started to play FFXIV just for Astro, i love the aesthetic and the card system. Once you get used to who needs which card, it becomes way easier. It just takes practice, but overall is sooo fun to play. And using Celestial Intersection is always a visual pleasure.
As a tank main i'm late to the healer game and I just started playing astro. I'm in love with this job now. It's so rewarding and really shows how boring some other jobs can be. Now I'm really worried how they're gonna rework it.
Astro is one of few jobs where you can see a huge difference on skilled vs non skilled players. Very busy too lol I see now why people who main astro MAIN astro. Its so much to learn
Never played FF until a week ago. I have to say this is the BEST video about the class I've seen. You explain everything which is easy to understand Well done 👍
This video was very helpful, thank you! Something to add though about the cards: There will be an pink/purple outline on the card in job bar if the card should go to ranged. There will be a blue outline on the card in the job bar if the card should go to melee.
Enhanced benefic is a trap trait. Please do not plan around that at all, just use benefic 2 if you need to single target heal with a gcd. It's not a preference thing, just the proper way to play the job in terms of MP/Healing efficiency. Benefic, like Cure 1 for a white mage, is basically just to be used in super low level dungeons where you don't have Benefic 2/Cure 2.
Yeah a more interesting / helpful design would be every second benefic II always crits. Using benefic I is never worth it unless you don’t have the mana for II
I'm starting AST in raiding and watched this as a nice refresher overall. Great video and I feel like I learned a few things. That raid opener though is gonna be "fun" to learn 😆
Seriously the opener is nuts, my brain cannot think that fast without clipping my GCD hard, any other job it's fine because I don't have to actively think who I'm giving the buff to, even with like DRG dragon sight, usually you'll have someone in mind before you even pull. Glad you enjoyed the guide though and it offered you a nice refresher :)
I don't really play healer so I'm here just to say that you're my new favorite XIV channel! You explain things very well and even taught me some new things with your tank guides. Keep it up!
Thank you for the support! Appreciate it. I'll most likely be continuing to release some short tanking videos/lessons just going over some extra things to note as a tank as it's my most passionate role on this game :)
I'm not a healer main but I really enjoy playing astro every now and then and this guide made me understand the class a hella lot better! Keep up the good work!
Collective Unconscious: The 10% damage mitigation lasts for 3 seconds after the bubble goes away, so you can flash it before raidwides to both mitigate them and then Regen the damage after
In general I think AST is pretty easy and forgiving for beginners. It's still a pure healer, so tons of big heals and Regens. It's got a higher skill ceiling than some of the other healers but optimizing damage isn't going to make or break anything outside of like week 1 Savage progression. The updated EW card system feels a little clunky at first though. Less RNG control for more buttons is strange to get used to. 6.1 might change that though
Are there any situations where keeping Collective Unconscious up for a longer period is worthwhile? I just started playing AST and I've been wondering why the spell is designed this way.
@@PropaneWPduring hallowed when he bashes his head in on 10 it can be used if no mitigation healers or anyone decided to mitigate it haha. But really it's up to you to decide to hold it or not. 3s mit and Regen and using gcds for damage or healing spells vs using a long mit and Regen to keep a team alive for unmitigated things. But the most important part is to enjoy and have fun.
As an ast main who has raided in HW expansion, this job has been simplified and a lot more approachable nowadays. They have changed everything to damage card. It used to be balance = damage, bole = reduced damage taken, arrow = attack speed up, spear = reduce recast time, ewer = reduce mp cost, spire = reduce tp cost. On top of that there's royal road where you can use a card to enhance the next, using a ewer/spire = potency reduced by 50% but whole party gets the buff, using a bole/balance = next card 150%, using arrow/spear = double duration. During HW expansion, there was cleric stance which made healing classes even more challenging. Ast has also changed to become a more proactive healer instead of reactive due to earthly star, horoscope and macrocosmos, in the past it was more reactive healing than proactive. It is harder to optimise now since you want to time these skills before the raid wide damage comes in so you dont have to heal the party manually after. So I kinda think that the hard part of ast kinda changed from cards to optimising in a fight.
I actually really miss the HW AST, I had a lot of fun playing it, even though the cards were grossly overturned, it was really good fun trying your hand at RNG and getting those spread balances. Definitely feels more approachable in a way, but its still a lot of thinking, at least in the opener, that opener is pain xD not a healer main though so that's why I wouldn't go too much into how I would personally change it, because I'm not as informed as a healer main for obvious reasons
The old card system are completely useless dude cuz most of the time u r fishing for balance which it raise dps, now all the cards are rasing dps which it better then the old ones now u r constantly giving people buffs instead of switching cards for the right one, and the only thing u saying astro is already simplified is because u don't want new players to play it, astro is still difficult and I want them to do more to simplify it, yes I am good at astro now but I want more and more people to play it
@@john_7000 it is true that in the past most of the time we’ll be fishing for balance. But there are also times when we can’t since it’s rng. And during that time, cards can be used for sometime else like bole during a tank buster, or if a co healer just got ressed we can also help to reduce their mp cost for a little etc there are alot of different combinations that we could do before if we can’t get a spread damage buff. Astro was more of a support back then and a buffer right now. Also I think that your comment is really offensive. Which part of my comment states that I didn’t want new players to play this class? I merely stated the fact that card systems are harder back in the days and simplified right now and cleric stance was a thing and that’s a fact. I said that their healing style changed to more proactive and reactive. And ast is harder to optimise now due to that. And that’s a fact as well. Ast can be played by anyone just after reading their skills. Casual contents definitely no problem playing. Raiding requires practice but I didn’t stop anyone who wants to try this class. I even recommended people to try it. Like my cohealer in static, if he can ast I can try sage. But he gave up after a round of p1s. Then what am I suppose to do. Can’t force people to play.
Thanks for the insight Azurite! I never thought to rely less on the standard healing methods like Benefic and Benefic II and use more of the o GCDs. I rearranged my bars to utilize more of the utility abilities better like Neutral Sect to get more of the healing/shield bonuses. Great video and very informative!
Thank you! Yeah the main thing to get yourself familiar with is definitely getting use to using your oGCD heals over GCD heals and only using the GCD heals as a last resort. Glad to provide insight :)
Chose AST for the aesthetic and card system (because I read tarot cards irl) Stayed because I love AST's complexity and contribution in battles other than healing with the buffs Thanks for the guide! I just hit Lvl 90 and I'm too scared to use the new abilities because I don't know when are the right times and afraid to "waste" them 🥺
I main WHM, my second healer was SGE which was a learning curve in and of itself. 81 at AST and I freaking love this class! You are right, it is very busy haha!
Thank you so much for this guide. I'm coming off a LONG break from XIV and was an AST main but due to my break (and having always been a very casual player, no guides) there is a Lot of details and nuances about my kit I don't understand. Worse yet, it's hard to know when to use what skills exactly and a lot of abilities beyond level 70, I almost never use or rarely use to full potential and fluid gameplay. I want to get better over the summer and start getting into more difficult content with friends, but I'd like to do my best and carry my weight on AST effectively!
I have decided to tackle AST in raiding. Your video has helped me learn a few things. I loved your encouraging words throughout the video. It fit me well. Astro is going to "Benefic" you and your party.
Astro is the job that feels the most HELPFUL. Not only do you heal but you’re constantly buffing the party’s damage output. It’s my favorite pure healer. The job also has some of the most satisfying proactive healing abilities in the game, such as Earthly Star, Exaltation, and Macrocosmos. I like what they did to the card playing mechanic. It’s more RNG yeah, but it’s easier and less impactful on your party. That’s great Imo. My only complaint is that Gravity 2 looks lame compared to Gravity.
It really does feel very helpful playing astro, I feel like I'm contributing so much to my party with the cards, divination and my own DPS. I just really struggle with how busy it is tbh, with practice that will get better though
@@AzuriteTV it definitely takes practice. But once you got it down and you’re doing a fight you know really well there may possibly be no job more satisfying to play. An Astro player who knows what is going to happen has so much power it’s ridiculous.
even tho you can place the earthly star as soon the countdown starts doesnt mean you should. that extra damage is nice but most raids boss have AoE dmg as first mechanic so its always nice to time your earthly star with that. less stress to heal, saves a OGCD and you still do dmg with it. you should always pull minor arcana as soon as possible, if you get a lord of crowns it means you got the chance of having double lord of crows during your divination, so save lord of crows until you on your "burst" phase
Glad it was helpful! Yes I will make guides for MNK and NIN, melees are actually next on the list once I get the Scholar video finished, so they shouldn't be too far away :)
Im really liking the class. I loved the look of the class when i came back to FFXIV. I was just never a fan of healing. So now that I manned up lmao im havin fun with it. Been watching multiple videos on it in my free time so i can get better at healing and playing with the card system. So with that said, by time i reach lvl 90, Astro will be my 3rd-4th favorite class
One thing that i noticed and am unsure about is that, on CU / Collective Unconscious, if you move, we lose the 10% damage reduction. But if you pop it quickly, the damage reduction stays for like 2.5 or 3 seconds (5:18). You said we can pop the bubble and take it down (after the aoe?). I wouldve liked if you mentioned this more clearly there.
I'm aware of the lingering damage reduction but I do apologise I should of made this a lot more clear and I did kinda oversight it in this guide, but yes popping the bubble just before AoE damage is about to go out would be the ideal way of handling this ability, as long as you can time it right :)
Ast is sooo much fun. Definitely enjoy it more than whm. Whm is still a great introductory healer, but if you get comfy/bored with whm, make the change to astro
I can see it definitely becoming muscle memory to some, just takes practice! I think what gets me is having to think about which card goes to who without clipping into my GCD
Grabbed Astrologian and Sage purely on aesthetics and because I didn’t have a healing class. My friend’s main healer is Scholar though so he’s told me if we’re both healing I’m on Astrologian. Thank you for the video!
now with the 6.2 change to astro, you're guaranteed to get 2 different signs for astrodyne for clarification: they changed redraw to guarantee that you'll get a card with a different sign from the 1 you already have drawn so let's say if you drawn a solar card and used it, then you draw another solar card, if you redraw you're 100% getting either lunar or celestial cards so now you should always have at least 2 signs for astrodyne
Only lvl 51 so far, but I'm really enjoying it, a lot. My main was a lvl 60 WHM, but I think he has been replaced. Ya there are a LOT of buttons, but I have saved my group with the AST in situations that my WHM would have failed at, numerous times now. That could change at higher level, but right now, and for the foreseeable future, AST is now my main lol. I see a lot of people talk about "so many buttons", but you can't let yourself get lost in the buttons. You have to have them prioritized. I'm looking forward to the higher levels, but I am quickly running out of quickbar space lol.
Some people can manage the constant inputs better then others I suppose, I prefer simplicity and slowness so thats why I personally learn more towards jobs with higher cooldowns and slower rotations
@@AzuriteTV As a healer main still in Heavensward, I hope there is a job in a happy middle ground. Where I don't have to constantly managing 16 different buttons (AST) or just mostly rotating between 4 (WHM).
I'm usually no fan of macros, but for Astro I made one specifically to quickly destribute the cards to my teammates. For over a year I did without so yes, its just a matter of training, learning the cards and know which one to put on a range or a melee - though more often than not I dont really bother since re-draw can only be used once (and getting 10 ranged cards in a dungeon groups full of melees... yeah, RNG is a thing...). But the macro, or rather macros since I made 7 for every potential team member, helps saving time. I suppose my warrior tanks have been amateurs then because more often than not I really have to babysit them o.O I agree with your closing thought: its a very busy healer. And also risky: letting the tank drop below 30% and clicking that one heal, that would save him, a second too late... it sucks, and I'm a "better save than sorry"-healer. If I run my expert rouletts, I usually go for a healer: less stressful than tank, faster queue than dps. And though I prefer Astro, I often find myself picking WHM (love Holy in big pulls XD ).
I probably struggle the most with AST and it's healing kit. It definitely has the kit to heal effectively but I feel its kinda weak on its own like in dungeons unless your tank is at the top of their game, this could just be me not being very good at the job as its just so busy and I have no idea what to prioritise. I compiled this guide through mostly research and the Balance was a big resource, it says to specifically not use macros for cards because it clips into your GCD... but I clip into my GCD regardless due to how slow my brain is while playing this job, so maybe macroing isn't actually a bad shout, and I don't mean that in an insulting way to you, just commending you it might be a good idea and I doubt that GCD clip is going to be major, as long as you press your DPS spells as a healer I feel you can't really go wrong xD
@@AzuriteTV Yeah, I heard about the clipping issue, hence why you shouldnt double weave the cards and such. But since I dont parse and also dont use my healers in savage mode... I probably do everything wrong XD
New AST here, have a question on the opener. After the mind potion why did you opened with Malefic instead of combust? Cause after lightspeed every cast is instant right? So why not combust>lightspeed>malefic to make full use of lightspeed?
The reasoning for this is to still catch our combust under all raid buffs and why we do it under lightspeed is just so we can get it off cooldown as soon as possible so it'll be back up sooner. I believe! I'm not an AST main but this is what I discovered in the Balance Discord Edit: I'm not at home atm but when I am I can dig into this and give you a further insight and reasoning
@@AzuriteTV oh my comment was asking why not start the whole opener with combust instead of the first malefic. Just swap the first 2 GCDs around to take advantage of Lightspeed buff fully
@@Calvinooi ah, then the previous point remains, we do combust a GCD later to get it under raid buffs, this is a similar story with all healers and their 30 second DoT
After you play a card or heal someone specific, is there a way to automatically be back on your boss focus without actually click on the focus button or on the boss ? Thx.
Multiplicative vs additive is pretty easy to calculate, for example you have 2 buffs, both give 50% more damage. Additive: To the usual unbuffed 100% damage you get +50% damage for each buff, so you are doing 100+50+50=200% damage overall Multiplicative: To the usual 100% damage you multiply all the buffs (for making something 150% of what it was, you need to multiply it with 1.5), which makes 100*1.5*1.5 = 225%
Well, the disclaimer regarding AST difficulty is maybe a bit over the top. I had little trouble picking it up as BRD/WAR main. Only optimizing is a bit difficult but you'll manage savage with a minimum of that. It is for sure harder than WHM - but then again - every single job in the game is. You can't just fall asleep spamming 1 button for 95% of a fight and occasionally faceroll the keyboard for raid-wides hitting any skill at random with zero differences to the outcome.
I main and raid with WHM and LOVE SCH I like SGE but I never gave AST he full attention I always loved it's aesthetics the most out of all jobs tho .. I'm here to finally stop walking around the Job and just getting to learn the basic tool tips xD ty for the video I'm gonna improve
I’m struggling with the opener - the double weaving is taking a long time for me to get down, and when I have to toss in deciding who gets what card during an actual fight? Ugh.
Don't stress about it too much, this opener is incredible difficult to pull off. I think you should focus on getting the cards out, you might clip into your GCD a little bit but that will get better with time :)
What I mean is when it's 2 different signs on the cards, so to get all 3 harmonies you would need all 3 different signs, which is nice to get all 3 but getting 2 of the same and 1 unique sign is fine as well so we can at least get the 2nd harmony
I've been an AST main since shb, and I love some of the changes, and have done unreals and savages as AST. All the same, it does seem overcooked right now (partly because I'm a controller player) The rotation is almost nonsense at times and it's kind of hilarious. Despite being the original free healer, it's now like every ogcd choice is also a dps loss, because there are so many ogcd CD's to get rolling. Even with one redraw, getting the three cards out + divination + astrodyne every two minutes doesn't really align that well within gcd heartbeats. It was weird to go back to sch and realize that job has now become comparatively easy. I love maining AST but I think its burst works better on paper/balance where drawing and playing can somehow be done in one weave. More than anything, as you pointed out, being reliant on tanks' expertise / abilities bothered me for a while in SHB because I was primarily healing DRK the whole expansion. Having it be harder for them to run out of my earthly star is great, but to be honest tanks still run out of it 😂 Especially if the tank can't decide if they want to keep pulling or not, and you're an AST and need to start those timers for your strongest heals. I love how reactive our forbidden pet earthly star is now though, and it actually makes clutch healing possible. Planning the heals with time spells still functions more if the tank has enough sustain in the first place... Altho macrocosmos is pretty great for living dead. As for astrodyne, I'm glad to hear 2 seals is the expectation, since redrawing for a third seal at the risk of misaligning dps buffs with divination doesn't feel worth it. Thank you for all your videos by the way! I love how you explain yourself and I've already begun passing around your drk and tank videos :) Definitely the best subscribe choice I've made in recent time.
I really do agree with you too, the "on paper" point, literally I couldn't say it better myself. The "optimal" opener and rotation is just insane how it expects you to be able to do all that in a single weave? Maybe if your super comfy on Astro but for a standard user and someone who doesn't really play Astro? Not a chance I'm getting that right without clipping into my GCD. But I do get it, its created for an ideal world and the people who made these openers and rotations do state that, so I can see where they are coming from when they make these openers. Also thanks a lot for this comment! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos, subscribing and even sharing my videos! thats incredible so thank you again! :)
@@AzuriteTV I reorganized my party list to help me scroll down and buff faster but I still worry about drifting! Less than for movement I'm trying to save Lightspeed for Divination windows again (oh man it's back) just to help manage the weaving, but honestly maybe it's just my imagination but scrolling through my party list however quickly to put out a buff feels like a double weave in itself like placement aoes. I'll have to time myself maybe it's not as bad as I worry. I figure if I save divination for the second card then it can pretty much capture if only a part of everyone's buff windows... Also thank you so so much for your reply, I'm honored! And seriously I didn't say this in the last comment but something else I've loved about your content is how positive you are about performing group content. The outlook as a tank to be part of the team is my favorite tank to heal, and I wish I met tanks like you in every pug! Keep up the good work, I look forward to all the content I'm now subscribed to! o7
what is the recommended/comfy sps for an astro? I already pentamelded my stuff before seeing this video XD (and put mostly on crit, direct hit and det :D) but I guess it wont be an issue :'D.. thanks for the video btw c:
math for the raidbuffs (example is like 10% times 5 witch in then not 50% but 60%, its probably more like 61% kept it simple) 100 base damage -> 10% more = 110. 110- > 10% more 121 121- > 10% more 133 133- > 10% more 146 146- > 10% more 160
Would love this personally! The RNG aspect of Lord and Lady kinda sucks because you don't always need the Lady for the heal but the damage from Lord is always nice
Thanks for this. I've decided to main astro and just got to the high 80s and OH BOY is it completely different from 60 and lower. Been trying to find a good rotation. Honestly there's some things I completely forgot like earthly star also doing dmg lol. Totally forgot. There's like no room on my hotbar it seems. X.x but man astro is so fun. Best healer imo. I probably won't go back to any of the other healers lol
AST was my first healer that I leveled all the way to level 70 and then kinda ceased playing xD But I never struggled with this particular healer (ironically coming from AST I struggled with WHM and especially SCH). The heals are potent, mana economy is the best of all the healers, party buffs out the ass, it was my favourite healer to play before EW. My biggest dislikes now were the removal of the Nocturnal/Diurnal sects and the complete RNG on the card system, it's actually worse now with the removal of Sleeve Draw, which if you had two signs out of three you could force the last sign to be drawn with Sleeve Draw. I tried it again this week and got pretty shafted getting ranged DPS cards when both DPS in the group were melee. Edit: forgot to add, buffs are indeed multiplicative, not additive.
Multiplicative damage increase means that if it says 6%, it’s gonna be an actual 6% increase, regardless of any other buffs. If it was additive, it would be less than 6, eg 126%/120%=105%, so only 5% if it was 120% already.
Is AST card RNG as painful as DNC having moments where they literally can't get feathers? Had a Tower of Zot run where I got like 2 or 3 feathers the entire run.
Oof, that does sound painful! I don't think its as bad because we are at least guaranteed to get cards every 30 seconds, and not getting 2 unique signs for our Astrodyne is just incredibly unlucky and very rarely happens
Assuming all cards have an equal chance of being drawn and that astro will have 4 draws to smooth out their seals (first card is always a seal, so you will have 2 draws and 2 redraws between that first and third seal) - there is a 4/6 (66.7%) chance of drawing a unique seal with each draw. So the chance of using all 4 draw/redraws and NOT seeing a second unique seal is (2/6)*(2/6)*(2/6)*(2/6) = 1.2%. So it would take about 84 4-card windows on average to end up with three of the same seals for astrodyne. Of course a lot of astro mains complain that this seems to happen fairly often so who knows if the game actually weights the card probabilities in this manner!
Oh boi, my fav healer (next to sch). It's lv 75 atm but kit is satisfying so far, if somewhat bloated. Rip Noct sect, but Sge is fun. Still trying to learn to balance dps and heals (I'm more reactive so Pure I guess), I dunno how endgame healers do this so well, tho no Cleric Stance made it easier I admit Katana's glam tho
Yeah I really do like Astro, but it does get very difficult, compared to Sage where the kit just... works? And synergies with its kit just makes so much sense, like using Physis 2 to buff your Keracholes and such. I feel Astro doesn't have so much synergy? It's kit is just there for the sake of being there, idk really just doesn't feel as good as other healers sometimes but I'm glad people do still enjoy it :)
How does even a guide maker not understand Collective Unconcious? You pop it just for a second. This applies the regen to everyone in it but leaves a lingering 10% damage reduction on the people in it for a little less than 5 seconds, just like paladin wings. Pop it just before a raidwide while standing with everyone for max benefit.
I have to say AST is probably my least favorite class to play. It's not because I don't like the class. I actually really like the idea of AST as a buffing healer. It's just that playing it on a controller is very difficult with how busy it is and with all the stuff it got to handle. Maybe you have a TH-cam friend doing videos on controller set up? :)
I play on controller! The best thing to do is to get ready to press your OGCDs during your casts. So use the d-pad to select your target and then spam the OGCD so that it immediately goes off after the cast and then spam your next GCD button so you keep it rolling. You get used to it. Also, try to get good at using the D-pad for quick targeting. Instead of hitting down multiple times to reach a party member on the bottom of the list just press up instead. Again, you get used to it.
@@James-kv3ll Thanks for the reply. The targetting part isn't really my issue more so the hotbar set up. I like having easy access to the gcd heals and dps spells so I put them on the action buttons. But I also want to be able to draw cards while moving so I want them on the action buttons as well because using the dpad while moving is a bit uncomfortable.
@@LuminNox Aye i feel that. Possible solution: Put spells that have cast times that you’d likely never use whilst moving (like HELIOS!) on the D-pad and put both Draw and Play on action (face) buttons. If they have cast times then you’re not able to move while using them anyway unless under the effect of swift cast or light speed. So put the casted healing spells on the D-pad. I like having Benefic 2 and Aspected Benefic on face buttons though. I’ve also gotten pretty good at moving whilst using the d-pad. Takes practice
@@James-kv3ll I'm gonna try that out. I do that on some classes as well it's a bit of finger gymnastics though but AST is just overall so busy. Thanks for your help. 👍
I know this is like.. 7 months old and all.. but know during that time we did have the change so I felt I should say it... Det=DH. It's just a choice if possible random burst or sustained. There's a very small difference in the heightened dps DH gives since Endwalker launched. So there's actually an equal balance to melding and stating either. Just wanted to put it here for future cases and because I didn't see an editors/creators note about it. Good video though and again .. I know this is months late.. But I wanted to throw that out there because people still get that wrong because it's always been DH more until they buffed it this expac.
I agree with u in every single way dude 👍👍♥️♥️ as an astro main I would love if they make it more simple and more approachable for players I am not gonna act like ungrateful summoner mains, I would love if astro became simple cuz I want so many people to play my favorite job in the game.
They say White Mage should be your introduction to healer, no. I say it should be Astrologian. It really pushes you to think about what you're doing and also makes Sage look simple. Trust me, was very weird to go from AST to SGE because of how simpler it was compared to AST.
We don't burn a major gcd (earthly star) for dps......please don't waste this on an opener. Everything else is solid advice, the star is for raid wide aoe, as a healer, your job is to heal, dps comes after you learn the fights.
Just like how most white mages use Assize for its damage rather than the heal, the star should be used the same way. If you hold the star when it's off cd for more than 5-10s, you're losing free dps that is part of astros dps kit. Astros have plenty of other ogcds to heal when the star doesn't time well with raid wides.

Made me cry the first time, I had a hard time accepting it 😅
I don't really play healer so I'm here just to say that you're my new favorite XIV channel!
I'm glad my guide can offer you clarity! and I appreciate your support :)
Collective Unconscious: The 10% damage mitigation lasts for 3 seconds after the bubble goes away, so you can flash it before raidwides to both mitigate them and then Regen the damage after
Yeah I had a massive oversight on this I admit, glad people are mentioning this though, gives it awareness :)
Can’t force people to play.
as an Astro main this video helped a lot, extremely well made guide
Thank you!!
Thank you! I'm glad this has helped you in some way :D
Chose AST for the aesthetic and card system (because I read tarot cards irl)
Stayed because I love AST's complexity and contribution in battles other than healing with the buffs
Thanks for the guide!
Yeah its super busy, I honestly tried to pick AST back up the other day and was so overwhelmed... think Ill stick to WHM and SGE xD
One of the best Astrologers guide. For sure. Thanks mate
@SleepyGhost I’d say Sage or samurai but they are also pretty
THANK YOU. Why does gravity 1 look absolutely amazing and gravity 2 look like a bad joke? Square Enix pls
Just stumbled on your channel and job guides! Good stuff! Keep it up
Thank you! I'm glad you found the channel :)
even tho you can place the earthly star as soon the countdown starts doesnt mean you should.
that extra damage is nice but most raids boss have AoE dmg as first mechanic so its always nice to time your earthly star with that.
less stress to heal, saves a OGCD and you still do dmg with it.
you should always pull minor arcana as soon as possible, if you get a lord of crowns it means you got the chance of having double lord of crows during your divination, so save lord of crows until you on your "burst" phase
Very helpful! I would love to see a video like this explaining MNK and/or Nin~
Glad it was helpful! Yes I will make guides for MNK and NIN, melees are actually next on the list once I get the Scholar video finished, so they shouldn't be too far away :)
@@AzuriteTV Awesome! Thank you very much for the guides :3
As of last year, Collective Unconscious' damage taken down buff has a 5 sec duration after you stop channeling it. For inquiring minds :)
its nice to know i was doing the opener without knowing I was.... . minus the pot. Great guide :)
Definitely agree, it's a good stepping stone making the change from WHM to AST
Honestly this rotation has become second nature. Had to work out weaving in minor arcana, but I love that my fingers are always clicking something
I can see it definitely becoming muscle memory to some, just takes practice! I think what gets me is having to think about which card goes to who without clipping into my GCD
Fantastic guide! TYSM! :D
Grabbed Astrologian and Sage purely on aesthetics and because I didn’t have a healing class. My friend’s main healer is Scholar though so he’s told me if we’re both healing I’m on Astrologian. Thank you for the video!
Do you have a macro guide for this class?
How are you attacking the tanks target while still targeting the tank? Are all you damage abilities macros?
now with the 6.2 change to astro, you're guaranteed to get 2 different signs for astrodyne
for clarification:
they changed redraw to guarantee that you'll get a card with a different sign from the 1 you already have drawn
so let's say if you drawn a solar card and used it, then you draw another solar card, if you redraw you're 100% getting either lunar or celestial cards so now you should always have at least 2 signs for astrodyne
I suppose my warrior tanks have been amateurs then because more often than not I really have to babysit them o.O
I agree with your closing thought: its a very busy healer.
I believe! I'm not an AST main but this is what I discovered in the Balance Discord
Edit: I'm not at home atm but when I am I can dig into this and give you a further insight and reasoning
When you use CI, is the shield dependent on how much was actually healed? Or is it always the same shield potency?
After you play a card or heal someone specific, is there a way to automatically be back on your boss focus without actually click on the focus button or on the boss ? Thx.
Multiplicative vs additive is pretty easy to calculate, for example you have 2 buffs, both give 50% more damage.
Additive: To the usual unbuffed 100% damage you get +50% damage for each buff, so you are doing 100+50+50=200% damage overall
Multiplicative: To the usual 100% damage you multiply all the buffs (for making something 150% of what it was, you need to multiply it with 1.5), which makes 100*1.5*1.5 = 225%
Ooo, when you put it like that it is kinda simple
Yep. In general, you never add percentages. You always multiply them as pointed. This applies outside of FFXIV too. 😊
Is 2 unique cards 2 different cards of 2 of the same kind? Like 2 moons
All the same, it does seem overcooked right now (partly because I'm a controller player)
The rotation is almost nonsense at times and it's kind of hilarious.
I already pentamelded my stuff before seeing this video XD (and put mostly on crit, direct hit and det :D) but I guess it wont be an issue :'D..
thanks for the video btw c:
math for the raidbuffs (example is like 10% times 5 witch in then not 50% but 60%, its probably more like 61% kept it simple)
100 base damage -> 10% more = 110.
110- > 10% more 121
121- > 10% more 133
133- > 10% more 146
146- > 10% more 160
I wish Minor Arcana just gave us the Lord of Crowns or Lady of Crowns buff. Hopefully, they eliminate Crown Play button
Would love this personally! The RNG aspect of Lord and Lady kinda sucks because you don't always need the Lady for the heal but the damage from Lord is always nice
@@AzuriteTV But man when you need that healing are you glad you got lady
Still trying to learn to balance dps and heals (I'm more reactive so Pure I guess), I dunno how endgame healers do this so well, tho no Cleric Stance made it easier I admit
Katana's glam tho
Yeah I really do like Astro, but it does get very difficult, compared to Sage where the kit just... works? And synergies with its kit just makes so much sense, like using Physis 2 to buff your Keracholes and such. I feel Astro doesn't have so much synergy? It's kit is just there for the sake of being there, idk really just doesn't feel as good as other healers sometimes but I'm glad people do still enjoy it :)
Funny, I don’t have an astrologian opener, nor have I realized there was one. I just play it.
Whoops! Oversight on my part, I'm aware of the lingering effect just like wings, just poor wording on my part
Maybe I do xD check this out! th-cam.com/video/ICl3gWRBZXg/w-d-xo.html
Definitely am always for making jobs more approachable ! the more people enjoy the job, the better the overall experience :D
They say White Mage should be your introduction to healer, no. I say it should be Astrologian. It really pushes you to think about what you're doing and also makes Sage look simple. Trust me, was very weird to go from AST to SGE because of how simpler it was compared to AST.
If a debuff has a hat, you can take it off. 😜
That's a good way of looking at it!
As an Astro player for tank healing
Warriors are a joke
Dark knights are easy
Paladins are easy
Gunbreaker are banes of existence
you dont need lightspeed if you go for BiS because with that you get a GCD of 2.4 maybe 2.3 sec and with ADN it is about 2.1 sec
Me: I just play lol
I find Astro easy
We don't burn a major gcd (earthly star) for dps......please don't waste this on an opener. Everything else is solid advice, the star is for raid wide aoe, as a healer, your job is to heal, dps comes after you learn the fights.
Why would you not? Most fights start with a raid wide or a tank buster and earthly star can easily cover that if timed properly in the opener.
If you are holding star for only healing purposes, I’m sorry to say but you are not playing healer correctly
Nah the dps is more important it's also not a GCD
