The Sat Am show was great, but what most people probably don't know is that the extra characters introduced, along with the characterizations and setting, were carried over into the phenomenal Archie comics Sonic the Hedgehog. It had some really great writing, and some amazing stories. Just wished the show had continued, we could have had Knuckles come in.
As for the chili dogs, that's actually NOT from the show. That's been 'canon' in some form since at least Sonic 2, since Casino Night Zone featured them as stage props. More recent games have featured them as well.

Neon Waffles The extended version I heard about this -- from someone who actually knew and was in contact with a writer from the show -- was that they were exploiting Einstein's Theory of Relativity, where (in overly simplified terms) if you travel near the speed of light, less time passes for you than the people you leave behind. So basically Robotnik and Snively travel off to their space colony and return an inordinate amount of time later and the critters have evolved. Whether or not you find the idea of evolved animals becoming human-esque intelligent "retarded" I have no comment on, but that seemed to be the idea.

Except a nuclear holocaust is implied. Although there is a "Great War" briefly mentioned in the show, there's no indication it was nuclear. In fact, I don't believe the show goes into detail at all. The Archie Sonic comics may have (I never read them), but they're not the same canon even though they eventually adopted the Saturday morning cartoon during its heyday. Point is, the animals may have simply evolved on their own, or were part of some kind of science experiment that went out of control, or who knows what else. I don't think specifics were ever clarified. (Again, discounting the comic, which may have gone its own direction.)

I disagree. Chris only whines because 4Kids rewrote everything. His Japanese counterpart is much stronger in character, a better helper, and more fun. Plus, despite 4Kids's tampering, Chris was very helpful to Sonic and company. He found many chaos emeralds, kept Sonic from being killed by Eggman at many occasions, and always stood by Sonic even at the risk of his own life. And I never saw any moment when Chris acted like a spoiled brat. Sonic SatAM (Sonic the Hedgehog 2) is a very good show. I did like it and the Archie comic. But, to me, the Japanese produced a better product. (Of course, if push comes to shove, the best Sonic is the first three games^^)
No that was actually voice actor Gary Chalk and originally he was going to voice the chicken, Scraps. But to be avoided being fired, he agreed to be Groundor and Phil Hayes the same he was Groundor but was Scraps.
SatAM was absolutely the superior show and shared characters and themes from the Archie comics. Which those comics IIRC, actually ran until either late 2013 or late 2014. In addition, this was closer to the actual original story of Sonic. Robotnik had the world in his hands (thus even the "natural" things looking artificial on Mobius) and was actually the one that made Miles/"Tails" an orphan. In the other tellings where the story is weaker however, the reverse is true and Sonic fights to prevent Robotnik's schemes coming to fruition. The cliffhanger or course, sets up for the story where Metal Sonic becomes the main protagonist. This would've possibly blended elements of Sonic CD or Knuckles Chaotix into the mixture. -sigh- This all makes me wish they'd make a game closer in theme to SatAM/Archie's storylines with a return to 2D platforming with 3D graphics similar to how Mario and Mortal Kombat have.
Um, the comic is still going. The creators have said that Ixis Naugus was going to be set up as the next main villain, with Robotnik reduced to a lackey and Snively reduced essentially to the guy who cleans the toilets.

Yeah but the joke works if you actually call the person's attention and then move to the opposite direction rather than just point. And in any case Sonic is fast but even them the robot would notice he moved from a place to another o_o...the only sonic character that could pull that off would be one that could just teleport like Shadow or fly off at high speeds like Silver...and even then you need to call the attention of the person at the spot you are on XD
that joke would work with The Flash, perhaps, and they just dont point, they make the after-image of themselves and taun the enemy to decide which is which. So usualy, the character and his after-image must be doing the same movements to look equal (or doing movements on their own without implying one being fake, lets say, both images are prancing around)
Fun fact! Doug Walker (A.K.A Nostalgia Critic) was going to play Dr. Robotnik in the BlueCore Sonic fanfilm. Ultimately he did get the part (probably because he was being...difficult) but he still got a part in the film as the first G.U.N solider Sonic saves in the film.
Sally still takes the title of Princess because she's holding out hope that her father is still alive. In the comic she did actually take on the title of Queen, putting the needs of her subjects before her own feelings; it's some meaningful and dramatic character development.

Okay to be honest, this show isn't that bad. I mean, yes the show's pretty much all over the place and is batshit crazy, but some of the jokes are pretty well thought out and do get a laugh out of me every now and then.
I watched the show and I think it is shown that he is trapped in some other dimension and technically she took authority as the leader of the freedom fighters. Actually I am sure there was a episode where they discovered some magical ruins and some magi or whatever shows them that the King is actually alive. So technically she is still a princess. But you cannot become a queen of a freedom fighter rebel group. I mean the show was going the route that Sonic and Sally were a romantic interest, maybe if the show ever ended correctly we would have seen the king return and retire, and Sally and Sonic becoming rulers. That is my own little fan imagination on how it would have ended though.

I admit, I liked the The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Then again, I grew up with Sonic. And my mind set tends to laugh as... stupid shit. If I were to have the Mindset of a normal person, I may not of liked it, either. Plus the fact I actually was diagnosed with Torrets Syndrome... so.... yeah. :/ But even so, my only noticable feature nowadays is I stutter and get excited a bit more often, plus major mood swings. Okay, so: AoSTH was pretty shit, yeah. The Sonic SatAM show was eh, but only because it added shitty extra characters that nobody cares about. Sonic Underground...ugh. Sonic X would have been good if it wasn't for CHRIS FUCKING THORNDYKE. Sonic Boom looks really promising, so that's a thing.
I've noticed that people from Critic's generation typically lean towards the Sat AM continuity, while those who grew up with Sonic X prefer THAT continuity

To be completely honest with you, I liked AOSTH better than SatAm when I was a kid. I just liked the wacky, crazy shit. Wasn't concerned with all the deep plot. Never could pay much attention to SatAm. I was only 6 or so at the time I watched them so I'm sure I would've enjoyed SatAm more if I were 10 or so. But, for what it's worth, I got a lot of good memories of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

MrDarthNiklous Food fight in eyes of an adult is a terrible movie. Its boring, has bad animation and an awful script and plot For a movie. In the eyes of a kid it may be OK just because it's an animation but that is still a "meh' movie. Its just one of those movies that exists but no one cares for it. Eh, Shadow wasn't even created until about 6 years later, in 2001. The eyes were some evil wizard that appeared in a couple episodes prior and, while I can't speak for anyone else, I personally could not give less of a shit about. Most people thought it was Metal Sonic.
It was Ixis Naugus. He's a wizard made of 3 animal fused together. Sonic SatAm is based on the Sonic The Hedgehog comic book by Archie Comics. Nothing there was invented, they took everything from the comic and the show ended at the part when Robotnik dies and Ixis Naugus appears.
Edgard Macedo Eh, actually, if the release dates I checked for the comic are correct, you're wrong. The comic does predate the show by a little under a year, but the issues that those events fall in seem to have been released in 96/97, while the show's final episode was in 94. I'll admit, the comic version does sound cooler (although I found archie to take a series about blue hedgehogs a bit too seriously), but the comic version was an altered continuation of the show's plot.
Neon Waffles The comic more or less followed "popular Sonic" in its lifespan. It started based on the games (some early Sonic comics were really much closer to "Adventures" in terms of being cartoony and silly), and later they started to follow "SatAM." But at some point they all transitioned into some kind of "soap opera" hybrid that tried to go beyond the cartoon and yet still yield to what Sega was doing at the time, if anything. That of course meant there were lots of years where Sega was doing nothing at all and the comic went in all sorts of directions, but usually was reeled in back to something like the mainline. In short, the comics are confusing as hell, because the reality is constantly altered by outside forces.

Kids, there's nothing more cool than a show with likeable characters, nice visuals and good writting. But if someone tries to make a show that has bad animation, horrible voice acting and no plot at all, THAT'S NO GOOD.
Pretty sure SatAM was based off of the sonic comics, which featured the same cast of characters, and while they started off light and comedic, took an incredibly dark turn later on. The comics were awesome, and I'm not sure which one was based on what, the comics or the show, but I'm pretty sure the show was based off the comics.
Scratch and Grounder are the only two characters I like from this show (though Critic did summarize their voices perfectly). Though to be fair, I don't think it's that terrible. It's okay. Definitely weak compared to all the other cartoons and comics made about Sonic, but not terrible.
I like how every criticism the Critic had for Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog could be directed right back at him. Hypocrisy, yet another reason the Nostalgia Critic is overrated
***** He admitted himself that the character is a loser. Things like movies take quite a bit of effort and he knows that one mistake can instantly turn the tables to how the movie is going to turn out, sometimes in a drastic fashion. NC is a character. He isn't supossed to be taken seriously.
I did that kind of project near the end of the episode, too. It was about movies. Mine was the script for a 2012 video game movie. The other was similar, but it took 10 years to make, so the guy started early, was about food, and is the #1 thing certain to make Critic shed tears of hatred.
I actually liked AoStH better, simply because it was so batshit, and Sonic is *not something you're supposed to take very seriously*. SatAM (a fan nickname, by the way) with all its darkness and grittiness generated a fan base of people who may have not played the games and in any event didn't really care about them, prompting Sega to create Sonic games with dark gritty storylines, angsty characters, and shitty gameplay to appeal to these fans. So you have SatAM to thank for Sonic '06.
***** Nevertheless, the American fandom had coalesced around SatAM and the comics and remained so long after SatAM's cancellation; appealing to these fans became important to Sega in the years that followed.
Jeff Read Let me just say I'm a fan of both the games and Sonic the hedgehog and I find your statement insulting, I liked the show because it was a good story with awesome characters, I like light hearted stuff but a good show balances the light hearted stuff with the serious stuff. Something Adventures of sonic the hedgehog did not do, I've watched a good chunk of the episodes and even when it tries to be serious it's brought down by the goofy animation. The villians don't come off as threatening they come off as morons who the heroes can easily defeat Eggman included. Don't assume that because you hate Sonic the hedgehog every sonic fan should hate it because then you come off as an egotistical jerk for expecting people to agree, If you like the show that's fine it is after all your opinion, just don't think every sonic fan has to side with you on the shows or the games.
One good thing about AoSTH: it gave us a character so glorious that he now lives on forever as one of the many mascots of TH-cam Poop.

The extended version I heard about this -- from someone who actually knew and was in contact with a writer from the show -- was that they were exploiting Einstein's Theory of Relativity, where (in overly simplified terms) if you travel near the speed of light, less time passes for you than the people you leave behind. So basically Robotnik and Snively travel off to their space colony and return an inordinate amount of time later and the critters have evolved. Whether or not you find the idea of evolved animals becoming human-esque intelligent "retarded" I have no comment on, but that seemed to be the idea.
Isn't that relatively similar to what Adventure Time is doing? Set a long time in the future after a nuclear holocaust, almost all the characters are inhuman intelligent mutants or hybrids.
Except a nuclear holocaust is implied. Although there is a "Great War" briefly mentioned in the show, there's no indication it was nuclear. In fact, I don't believe the show goes into detail at all. The Archie Sonic comics may have (I never read them), but they're not the same canon even though they eventually adopted the Saturday morning cartoon during its heyday.
Point is, the animals may have simply evolved on their own, or were part of some kind of science experiment that went out of control, or who knows what else. I don't think specifics were ever clarified. (Again, discounting the comic, which may have gone its own direction.)

I disagree. Chris only whines because 4Kids rewrote everything. His Japanese counterpart is much stronger in character, a better helper, and more fun. Plus, despite 4Kids's tampering, Chris was very helpful to Sonic and company. He found many chaos emeralds, kept Sonic from being killed by Eggman at many occasions, and always stood by Sonic even at the risk of his own life. And I never saw any moment when Chris acted like a spoiled brat.
Sonic SatAM (Sonic the Hedgehog 2) is a very good show. I did like it and the Archie comic. But, to me, the Japanese produced a better product.
(Of course, if push comes to shove, the best Sonic is the first three games^^)
No that was actually voice actor Gary Chalk and originally he was going to voice the chicken, Scraps. But to be avoided being fired, he agreed to be Groundor and Phil Hayes the same he was Groundor but was Scraps.
SatAM was absolutely the superior show and shared characters and themes from the Archie comics. Which those comics IIRC, actually ran until either late 2013 or late 2014. In addition, this was closer to the actual original story of Sonic.
Robotnik had the world in his hands (thus even the "natural" things looking artificial on Mobius) and was actually the one that made Miles/"Tails" an orphan. In the other tellings where the story is weaker however, the reverse is true and Sonic fights to prevent Robotnik's schemes coming to fruition.
The cliffhanger or course, sets up for the story where Metal Sonic becomes the main protagonist. This would've possibly blended elements of Sonic CD or Knuckles Chaotix into the mixture.
-sigh- This all makes me wish they'd make a game closer in theme to SatAM/Archie's storylines with a return to 2D platforming with 3D graphics similar to how Mario and Mortal Kombat have.
Um, the comic is still going. The creators have said that Ixis Naugus was going to be set up as the next main villain, with Robotnik reduced to a lackey and Snively reduced essentially to the guy who cleans the toilets.

And in any case Sonic is fast but even them the robot would notice he moved from a place to another o_o...the only sonic character that could pull that off would be one that could just teleport like Shadow or fly off at high speeds like Silver...and even then you need to call the attention of the person at the spot you are on XD

that joke would work with The Flash, perhaps, and they just dont point, they make the after-image of themselves and taun the enemy to decide which is which. So usualy, the character and his after-image must be doing the same movements to look equal (or doing movements on their own without implying one being fake, lets say, both images are prancing around)
Fun fact! Doug Walker (A.K.A Nostalgia Critic) was going to play Dr. Robotnik in the BlueCore Sonic fanfilm.
Ultimately he did get the part (probably because he was being...difficult) but he still got a part in the film as the first G.U.N solider Sonic saves in the film.
Sally still takes the title of Princess because she's holding out hope that her father is still alive. In the comic she did actually take on the title of Queen, putting the needs of her subjects before her own feelings; it's some meaningful and dramatic character development.

I watched the show and I think it is shown that he is trapped in some other dimension and technically she took authority as the leader of the freedom fighters. Actually I am sure there was a episode where they discovered some magical ruins and some magi or whatever shows them that the King is actually alive. So technically she is still a princess. But you cannot become a queen of a freedom fighter rebel group. I mean the show was going the route that Sonic and Sally were a romantic interest, maybe if the show ever ended correctly we would have seen the king return and retire, and Sally and Sonic becoming rulers. That is my own little fan imagination on how it would have ended though.

This is my favorite review from the NC so far.
In that bit with the pumpkin, he had more than enough time to come up, be in plain sight, blow into his drill hand, make it turn into a pumpkin, throw it at Sonic and run away. He could have grabbed Sonic and been half way back to Robotnik by the time the trap set up was done.
I'm not much of a sonic fan, but i must be honest, i love this show. It's more nostaligia related, but i have the feeling that if you released this cartoon today after updating some of the jokes, it could pass as a regular show style of comedy. It's not that bad

To be completely honest with you, I liked AOSTH better than SatAm when I was a kid. I just liked the wacky, crazy shit. Wasn't concerned with all the deep plot. Never could pay much attention to SatAm. I was only 6 or so at the time I watched them so I'm sure I would've enjoyed SatAm more if I were 10 or so. But, for what it's worth, I got a lot of good memories of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Man, I thought the disguises were pretty funny, and the corny jokes fit very well. I mean after all it is a KIDS show.
I also loved some of the political humor in this show. I mean, they put a cowboy hat on Coconuts and made him declare frivolous, excessive wars. Also that bit about the mole going into politics. Good stuff. I'm not really sure what the Critic doesn't see in this.
It's definitely a million times better than most of the drivel our kids are seeing nowadays.
It can be pretty stupid and illogical at times but this had great humour. And of course this is better than new shows. All kids see now is Sam and Cat and the new cringy horrible Sponge Bob.

MrDarthNiklous Food fight in eyes of an adult is a terrible movie. Its boring, has bad animation and an awful script and plot For a movie. In the eyes of a kid it may be OK just because it's an animation but that is still a "meh' movie. Its just one of those movies that exists but no one cares for it. This on the other hand is a show for 7 year olds that does not require a great plot or a good script. Its just nonsense and kills time. It keeps children entertained and you know make them laugh once in a while. Something food fight did not achieve.
The whole "it's a kid show" thing shouldn't be an excuse for good writing.

I don't know much about Sonic, but the thing in that last episode looked like Shadow.
Eh, Shadow wasn't even created until about 6 years later, in 2001. The eyes were some evil wizard that appeared in a couple episodes prior and, while I can't speak for anyone else, I personally could not give less of a shit about. Most people thought it was Metal Sonic.
It was Ixis Naugus. He's a wizard made of 3 animal fused together. Sonic SatAm is based on the Sonic The Hedgehog comic book by Archie Comics. Nothing there was invented, they took everything from the comic and the show ended at the part when Robotnik dies and Ixis Naugus appears.
Edgard Macedo Eh, actually, if the release dates I checked for the comic are correct, you're wrong. The comic does predate the show by a little under a year, but the issues that those events fall in seem to have been released in 96/97, while the show's final episode was in 94.
I'll admit, the comic version does sound cooler (although I found archie to take a series about blue hedgehogs a bit too seriously), but the comic version was an altered continuation of the show's plot.

The comic more or less followed "popular Sonic" in its lifespan. It started based on the games (some early Sonic comics were really much closer to "Adventures" in terms of being cartoony and silly), and later they started to follow "SatAM." But at some point they all transitioned into some kind of "soap opera" hybrid that tried to go beyond the cartoon and yet still yield to what Sega was doing at the time, if anything. That of course meant there were lots of years where Sega was doing nothing at all and the comic went in all sorts of directions, but usually was reeled in back to something like the mainline. In short, the comics are confusing as hell, because the reality is constantly altered by outside forces.
The series ended in 1996 I think and shadow made his debut in 2001, so yeah, it can't be him.

True, but one is a game, and one is a TV show.
Kids, there's nothing more cool than a show with likeable characters, nice visuals and good writting. But if someone tries to make a show that has bad animation, horrible voice acting and no plot at all, THAT'S NO GOOD.
Pretty sure SatAM was based off of the sonic comics, which featured the same cast of characters, and while they started off light and comedic, took an incredibly dark turn later on.
The comics were awesome, and I'm not sure which one was based on what, the comics or the show, but I'm pretty sure the show was based off the comics.

Scratch and Grounder are the only two characters I like from this show (though Critic did summarize their voices perfectly).
Though to be fair, I don't think it's that terrible. It's okay. Definitely weak compared to all the other cartoons and comics made about Sonic, but not terrible.
I like how every criticism the Critic had for Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog could be directed right back at him.

***** He admitted himself that the character is a loser. Things like movies take quite a bit of effort and he knows that one mistake can instantly turn the tables to how the movie is going to turn out, sometimes in a drastic fashion.
NC is a character. He isn't supossed to be taken seriously.

I did that kind of project near the end of the episode, too. It was about movies. Mine was the script for a 2012 video game movie. The other was similar, but it took 10 years to make, so the guy started early, was about food, and is the #1 thing certain to make Critic shed tears of hatred.
I actually liked AoStH better, simply because it was so batshit, and Sonic is *not something you're supposed to take very seriously*. SatAM (a fan nickname, by the way) with all its darkness and grittiness generated a fan base of people who may have not played the games and in any event didn't really care about them, prompting Sega to create Sonic games with dark gritty storylines, angsty characters, and shitty gameplay to appeal to these fans. So you have SatAM to thank for Sonic '06.
***** Nevertheless, the American fandom had coalesced around SatAM and the comics and remained so long after SatAM's cancellation; appealing to these fans became important to Sega in the years that followed.

Jeff Read Let me just say I'm a fan of both the games and Sonic the hedgehog and I find your statement insulting, I liked the show because it was a good story with awesome characters, I like light hearted stuff but a good show balances the light hearted stuff with the serious stuff. Something Adventures of sonic the hedgehog did not do, I've watched a good chunk of the episodes and even when it tries to be serious it's brought down by the goofy animation. The villians don't come off as threatening they come off as morons who the heroes can easily defeat Eggman included. Don't assume that because you hate Sonic the hedgehog every sonic fan should hate it because then you come off as an egotistical jerk for expecting people to agree, If you like the show that's fine it is after all your opinion, just don't think every sonic fan has to side with you on the shows or the games.
