Roger I have to say I absolutely adore that you're taking us on this slidebaiting journey. Many youtubers would try to perfect a new technique before they release videos about it, but that's not how the world (or fishing) really works. This way, I feel like I'm learning the same lessons you are; that I'm part of the team. It will be all the sweeter when you (we) get that monster Jewie off the sand!
Neoprene dive boots are good to wear when there are blue bottles. Good for walking in loose sand too. I watch all your videos and have learnt a lot from them, thankyou!
One thing to think about is you may have to lift the rod up and down up to 100+ times just to get the slider all the way out. It can be a little easier if you are fishing from a pier or a higher vantage point into deeper water as the drop angle will be a lot greater. I also find fishing from the shore to pin the bait at the dorsal fin or towards the front of the bait to make bait swim more level and further back down the tail if your vantage point is higher and causing the bait to swim downwards and deeper.. Good luck with your new fishing and learning process. The Poms and the Kiwis also have plenty of informative videos on this subject. Keep up the good work mate.
Do not worry, I can be very creative when it comes to mistakes. But nothing beats a day fishing, mistakes and all. Very nice and friendly video. (The mullet and salmon may disagree).
Thanks roger for your info. Been Beachworming and beachfishing for over 25 years and I applied your striker hook idea to beachworm. It allows me to put more worm on and cast out without any worm falling off. Been getting plenty of jew each session up to 96cm so far. Size 4mustad stainless long shank. Only shovelnoses on slider so far using live mullet.
Hi Roger, do you have any tips for stopping multiple hook rigs getting tangled? I have tried the paternosta rig a few times but always seam to end up with the leader tightly wrapped around the main line.
Hey Roger! Close the clip on the slider before you send it out. Think of it as just a big swivel clip. A large fish will cause the slider to bend if not clipped.
At Lennox Head, on 7 mile beach, the banjo rays (which I think you caught one of) start biting just past the top of the tide. Time to go home. Great show!
Hay Roger nice video, you should put the slider on your main line before you put your mullet on so then you’re not rushing as much and I think it would be easier
Just noticed you put your rod down when you connect your slide to your line... Try holding your rod, then turn away from the ocean. This will bring the line to you and you can hold your rod and connect the slide. Once connected, it's an easy "tighten the line and jiggle the rod" 👍😁
Gudday Roger, You could fight your current to the left by putting the rod that is on the right, into the left rod holder and casting out the rod you are holding out to the right. I hope I'm making this comment clear ?. Also when I have tried to get a cast out over the braking waves my line usually snaps off. Then I figured out that if I pull about 30 ft. of line off my 12 ft. rods, then taking the end of the line and folding that in half up to the 30 ft. mark. Next tie a double overhand knot at that same mark that will give me twice the breaking strenth of single line. Now when you reel in this double line onto the reel, the 30 ft. mark is on the spool and about 3ft. is left for my sinker. Now I can cast out about 100 meters, but i still break the line some times. I think I may need to go and get a RC drone. ?. Thank You for all your hard work. Felix

Roger 2mistakes 1st one lock your slide 2nd you must jiggle your rod for about 10min you should try the dingle dangle method it's much easier and garunteed bigger fish

Hi Roger. Just a small thing when casting a grapnel sinker. After the sinker hits the bottom try to keep your rod tip down and then wind the reel till you feel the sinker is holding firmly in the sand. Then adjust your drag after sliding the bait to the stopper ring. From India. Much appreciate your videos. I did start using your worlds deadliest rigs and has improved my catch rate immensely. ❤
Can i ask you a question Roger? I recently caught Ludrick (2 in fact) one was huge, i think 40cm and the other was around 30cm or so. When i came home and fillited them, pan fried them, they turned out super rubbery (they didnt even taste like fish). It is my first time with these type of fish so was wondering am i cooking them wrong or something?
Just my opinion, but fish like Luderick, Trevally, Bream, etc are best baked. Just put a couple slits on both sides, add some lemon, salt and pepper and you're good to go. 160 degrees for about 18 minutes!

That is insane.. We eat alot of luderick(black fish) and we pan fry them with rosemary, garlic and butter. Seems like you might of overcooked them by ALOT, it only takes a few minutes to cook fish on high heat.
You’ve discovered that very occasionally some luderick are just rubbery! Nothing wrong with cooking method every now and then one’s flesh just goes this way when cooking. I don’t believe there’s a reliable way of telling prior to cooking

I mean at the end i tried it a bit but just didnt eat it, it was way to tough and almost tasted like chicken (did not taste like fish at all) most fish are flaky and fall apart on the pan. This was like chewing a rubber ball . Like i said, it's the weirdest fish i have tried. They are good fighting fish tho.
Sliding on braid is not as effective. The slide " bites" into the mono as the bait progresses.You could possibly slide a lively down braid from high points.
Love you Rodger. The salmon you caught with the live bait is the only fish I've seen you catch with the live bait. We both dispatch fish asap when we catch them. Feeling that it's a bit unfair for the little live bait. Bit off putting. Maybe I got it all wrong but I don't think it does your show any good.
Are you new to fishing or Rogers videos? He's caught plenty of fish on livies. If you are worried about hurting the live bait, maybe try knitting as a hobby? 🤦
Roger, I thought that in NSW, you could only keep poddy mullet for bait if they're under 150mm long. Otherwise, you can keep bully mullet over 30cm long. Yours look between these sizes. Am I missing something?
the grapple sinkers you are using are pretty rubbish. Last year i fished a remote beach in South Australia and was completely un prepared in the sinker department. 2 180 gram star sinkers were not holding bottom, but luckly a local gave me a 8oz grapple which has 1mm grapple bars that were about 20cm long. these ones you had bend into whatever shape you want. the sinker held bottom really well with large salmon and squid strip baits, even with abit of weed on the line. not many tackle stores in nsw sell them for some odd reason but the brand I'm using now is "Neptune tackle". They are a snapper lead with 4 150mm prongs hanging out the base compared to the ones your using which are more of a dropper/bomb sinker with the flimsy folding prongs. Wednesday- till Friday i went for a beach fish/camp on a beach on the mid north coast and sadly on Wednesday the water close to the beach was covered in this gloopy algae like slime weed which no idea if it affects fishing but all the bream (no jews) had it all through their gills. Next morning the weed moved on and a few smaller jew came along and a sizable 1.5-2m bronzie right in the shore dumb trying to get to a salmon frame attached to my rod holder for burley. Curious if you have had large amounts of this weed and if it affects fishing or not as that's the first time I've seen it. a few live bait tips, you can give the livies tail abit of a snip to make them swim harder which can attract more fish & you should hook the livie behind the head as most fish eat head first to avoid spines.
If its what im thinking its called Snot Weed a brown slimy weed that sticks to your line you get it sometimes offshore and when its around there is not much in the way of fish to catch i think it effects there gills.

Hey Roger, I usually really enjoy watching your fishing videos. However watching your slide bait journey I did not so much. I do like the idea of you sharing the journey of learning to slide but not so much giving user advice without getting the basics right. Have a look at the link attached in this comment. It's from the kingfisher boys on the basics and how to work your slide down to the sinker. If you just have it sitting there you will get burned off when a fish takes it. Mullet were perfect casting size. Need them slightly bigger to swim through that surf.

Do you use braid or mono for this type of fishinh
I have been using mono but braid could work well because of the thin diameter.

Thanks Phil, Live baiting has been a valued method of fishing for thousands of years. I'm good with it.
If there is current the trick is to cast in the same direction as the current..not against it.

Same species I believe, if not same, very close cousins. I’m from NSW too and catch a lot of these great sport fish. Also pretty yum too imho
