INDIA'S Kingdom of HEAVEN (MUNNAR, KERALA)

  • I had first come to Mumbai in India and then taken a flight to Kochi in the state of Kerala. Now I was in the famous city of Munnar located up in the mountains and the south west part of the country. I had found the kingdom of heaven in India!
Munnar is a town in the Western Ghats mountain range in India’s Kerala state. A hill station and former resort for the British Raj elite, it's surrounded by rolling hills dotted with tea plantations established in the late 19th century. Munnar rises as three mountain streams merge - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. 1,600 m above sea level, this hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India. One of the most sought after honeymoon destinations in Kerala, Munnar is replete with resorts and logding facilities that fit a wide rage of budgets. Sprawling tea plantations, picturesque towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji. This flower which bathes the hills in blue once in every twelve years, will bloom next in 2030. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, which towers over 2,695 m.

For many foreigners in comment please Don't misunderstand that delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Taj Mahal is only India. In reality it is not even 0.01% of india . You need to travel lot to know about India . India have everything to offer in tourism. From snow ,. Desert, rain forest, salt plains, green mountain , for example highest mountain range to hottest desert and wettest place even located in India only. Super beaches like Maldives even present in india and many historical place to natural beauty will amaze you. For all experience just tarvel India fully with open minded. Since moving to South India some years back, been wanting to visit Munnar and finally did that just few weeks back. Must say, was completely blown over by the place. Driving through those winding roads with green rolling hills and valleys all around, felt like in heaven. Though rains add to the charm, if it was not raining so much, I guess you could have seen a lot more on that ride to Top Station and back. We spent almost 7-8 hours stopping at many places and even sighted wild elephants. Anyone planning to visit Munnar inspired by William, do try out the various flavours of local tea and homemade chocolates (Ripple outlets are a good place to go). Also the locally grown passion fruits are yummy.
PS: Had been browsing Munnar videos before my trip and thats how your's showed up on my feed today. Must say...one of the best I have seen....specially the drone video at Top Station is just amazing. And I share your views on the elephant park. It feels like exploitation and we skipped the place.

Was waiting to see this video. Glad you enjoyed it William 😀 We are watching from the other side of the mountains, from the state of Tamilnadu. I didn’t see you trying dosas, did you? 😄 have a great time ahead 😍
Also, that breakfast you ate was the traditional ‘puttu’ and ‘kadala’. You have to mix both and eat. And that donut is ‘vada’.

The "Donut" is called Vadai, a south Indian food. And the Chic pea curry is called Channa.

‘Channa’ is a term used in North India. In these parts of the South it is called Kadala (Malayalam) or Kadalai (Tamil).

William, have been following your adventures from the time you were in Mexico to now your adventures in India. We got inspired by your travel so we did Akumal this year and followed your path from Playa de Carmen to the Town of Akumal. We loved it so much we are heading to Puerto Vallarta in 2023, I may have asked already but was is the map app you used in Mexico, I think this would be great on our next trip.
