It makes me nervous when you plunge your bare hand in the muck - I wonder how many fingers you'll still have when you pull it out! Love the mud boots, 100% improvement over the snowshoes! It's great that you turn trash to art when you upcycle your bottles, gorgeous vases, candle holders. Lots of labor involved!

Sometimes potters will add texture to a vase that was intended to be an art piece. It looks intentional to me. That would be why it's embedded into the glaze. Beautiful find! (I studied art and design in college. )

Always nice to see marine enhanced items, keep those barnacles on, after all it's part of the bottles history, and can't be recreated without mother nature. Every time l find another bottle it makes me think about the person who originally bought it from a shop, that probably isn't there anymore, when l was young in the 60s corner shops were everywhere, and everyone knew each other in friendly communities, that gave you a sense of happiness, there were lots of smiling faces, which sadly as time went on disappeared with the closure of the little shops, as the big supermarkets moved in and stole the trade away, my dad always used to say money ruins everything, and now that I'm older l can see what he meant. But the great old bottles remain, nostalgia now from a nicer past, and made by hand, with a new beginning thanks to your great imagination Si

Your ginger jar looks like a traditional Chinese pickle jar. It's missing the collar around the top and the lid. The idea being that you put water in the collar and when you place the lid on top it creates an airtight interior. So long as your pickled veg is submerged in brine they will keep for several years, they just get more tangy 🤪 as they ferment. Google it, there's loads of images. Very enjoyable video, I'm catching up 😊 .

The ginger jar, vase, could be appraised by Sotheby, Chinese antiques, The hand decorations, quickly applied, along with the utilitarian glaze. Where the glaze did not hold, could be attributed to imperfections in clay, bits of iron, etc. Since the end product was destined for the average consumer, some imperfections would be tolerated, beautiful non the less. Good eye si

The ginger jar / temple You found is Japanese, often given at weddings etc with many of the simple inscriptions bearing words like, luck or wealth. When they were used to export goods the lids were sealed with a bit of slip inside the lid and wax on the outside. I believe the one you found maybe circa 1800 - 1850.

Simon, you are so clever to repurpose these beautiful bottles. They would have surly just continue to be crushed up. But now, people can have a true piece of London and British history in their homes. I love the ginger jar. My mother had one very similar. Well, the luck was fair but there certainly was a lot of muck. ;) Wow on a whole ginger jar! I think the lids of ginger jars were sealed on with wax but, I'm not positive. Glad you got mud shoes, although they aren't as entertaining as your previous pair. :)

I like the barnicals left on some of the bottles. It gives them more character. Also the torpedo bottle that you didn't know what to do with would make a nice lid for one of the bottles that you have cut. In fact there was one right next to it that looks the same size. It would make a nice jewelry box

In AU we get 10c for returning plastic bottles including the small water bottles. Makes it worthwhile to save them up same for beer cans.

years ago,I would go hunting for old stuff in the Australian outback with a mate. We could fill a trailer with old carriage and wagon parts and so on. Before we got home we would stop in at a self serve car wash and give everything a good rinse .Saves making a mess at home...😁
