I highly suggest you to check out kenna's video. It is call "DEVACURL, a biochemist's prospect" She is a biochemist that used to work on a lab that manufactures cosmetic products. I think her explanation about what happened to devacurl makes a lot of sense, and honestly it could happen to any brand :/
You know girl, you are definitely right! Last day I search something about designer just like history (because I love history of fashion brands and how they grow up) online and I saw so many tutorials about huge haul designer bags and stuffs and I was regret actually about my life that I don't have some of these items. And I realized that this is just a bag or coat and because I lived in the country where we don't have designer things at all it doesn't mean that I am not in a good place, because I have so many other things - like my own home and I try to start own business and finished law university. I mean sometimes social media can be really bad, because it shows somethings that not everyone can have. And most of the time regrets you mentally.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve unfollowed all influencers who I don’t 100% relate to or who I don’t believe are genuine because I found myself constantly comparing. Self love has to come first for me.
I had to drop some as well!! Especially those who deny botox. I am 31 and recently got my "number 11s" and those who are my age or older and pretend its vitamins, skincare or their sponsored crap had to go. Lol
I find Kathleen and Shannon from Shannxo two of the most relatable and watch pretty much all of their uploads, I do also like Mel Thompson. I hardly ever miss. I am subscribed to others but tend not to watch their uploads anymore.

I love your rant. And btw, 10 or 15 years ago, pencil hips were everything and having the juicy hips was unappealing. Now it’s the opposite. Society is constantly trying to make women contort into a new pretzel, and once you master it, they change it. You’re beautiful. I wouldn’t mind seeing MORE rants like that. 💛
Hell, in my country juicy hips are currently not "in", so I'm in the exact opposite situation as Kathleen. Elizabeth Williams agree. An influencer I like just posted her favorite bag. It was a $2,700 Dior tote. Ummmmmm can’t relate. It’s a tote that says Dior. A canvas grocery bag basically. How in the world is that relatable when people have families to put food on the table, pay bills, pay student loans, rent or mortgage plus healthcare. Wtf are influencers thinking? Keep in mind every vlog this influencer posts is sponsored by delivery groceries, delivery vitamins, hotel stay Four Seasons Vale, delivery smoothies, her online boutique of clothes, delivery eyeglasses, delivery meals, etc. who has the money to pay for $500/month in this shit? It’s a cash grab clearly.

I’m an influencer and I am sooo fed up with all this designer! When it’s overdone it looks cheap and not exclusive anymore! I still get clothes from the market and primark like I don’t careeeeee ♥️
Girl! I used to straighten the hell out of my curls. For years. For the last two years I stopped straightening it, and dying it and now my frizzy slightly wavy hair has turned into literal ringlet curls. It can be a long journey....so don’t feel defeated if you don’t see major results in three months. I was amazed when I came across old pictures; and I didn’t even realize it!!!!

My rant is.. That half of the stuff “influencers” gets is free! Gifted!! So half of the things I see in posts, is them flaunting free things that us “average” people have to pay for. If they didn’t get free things and actually paid for it I’d trust their “influence” on an item/product. If someone posted I bought this I’d actually feel well done for them, they worked hard for that, they’ve achieved what they wanted to get what they want. What bothers me is when it’s free. I get that influencers promote things and so on, but where’s the line of what they buy for themselves to the free things. I hardly see the relatable hauls and happy purchases (not like how it used to be). I see a lot of look at my massive PR haul. So in my opinion, to be relatable is to stop showing us free things cause us average people can’t just get free things.
When people say “i don’t have a perfect body” (which, to be fair, i don’t think she said. but just in general...) I always think YES YOU DO!! Your body is keeping you alive, its working perfectly. It’s allowing you to peruse your dreams and make it through life!

Sometimes I’ll catch myself saying things like “wellll MY body isn’t perfect.” I have a variety of mental health issues and due to being a gymnast for years I’ve seriously damaged it... but then I remember it’s STILL perfect because what are the chances of being put here on this earth? Pretty slim. I will never exist again. So while I may not always be happy and able, I will remember I am perfect. And that takes practice to say, but it does help on the hard days.

I was in treatment for an ED and I was asked what do you love about your body? The answer I came to realize is that my body allows me to hug my sweet nephews, to walk outside on a beautiful day, to play with my puppy, to kiss my husband. 00:50 this is me, the THOUGHT of going out on a friday night, especially with it being valentines day is a BIG NO for me. I don't even like going to dinner on fridays because that's the busiest day of the week, catch me getting sushi on a weekday at noon lol. And all my friends find that so weird and I'm like it's just not my thing, I prefer places not to be crowded.
I seriously just love how open you are and how I feel like you're actually having a conversation with me! You are so right about the social media thing; I stopped using Instagram in 2018 because alot of the people i was "following" were making me feel like I wasn't good enough. So I started watching TH-cam and came across you and a few others that I literally haven't been able to stop watching and I feel as if TH-cam is SO much better because you guys communicate with us and we feel a connection there even if it's not in real life. I feel like I can relate to everything! You and the others that I watch have actually been able to bring me out of the depression I was in, where as Instagram if I were to go on there, it would just make me feel like crap again. So I'm thankful for TH-cam and the people like you that are so real and honest and genuine. Thankyou so much for being your amazing real self and being such a bright shining light that a lot of people these days truly need! ♡
High school teacher here. I see the effects of social media on our kids everyday. While I think there are some benefits, I can't even get on Instagram without feeling bad about myself at times and I'm a grown woman! I see posts where people just do things and buy things just to post it and make everything look perfect. Thank you for your insight. My take away was that I need to be encouraging my students to connect with the "real" side of social media and to recognize the fake and how damaging that can be to ourselves.

Kathleen I’m glad you are trying to bring your curls back and switching out your products. As a curly girl myself when I had to transition it was overwhelming but I’m going to tell you a few things that helped me a lot.
1. No heat/hair dye- heat is very damaging and drying, and dye is full of chemicals that mess with the integrity of your hair.
2. Cutting your hair- letting all the damaged hair go makes a huge difference in welcoming new healthy growth.
3. Hair masks- curls need moisture.
4. Air drying- if you have the time, if not you can diffuse your hair on low heat if it’s necessary.
5. Use a microfiber towel to dry hair.

She is all for people doing what they want to feel beautiful, however as an influencer she would never flaunt it, so that younger girls dont feel that its necessary to do the same to be beautiful. That every person has their own definition of beautiful and that thats okay. She doesn't talk about her plastic surgery because that would be flaunting it/ making it seem like other girls have to do the same just because she did.
Emily I get what you mean but don’t think that would be flaunting it. She doesn’t even show off her breasts in her videos. I don’t think she was being as honest as she could have which is why I’m irritated. I totally get her message and what you said but she could have shared her past struggle with insecurity and how she got surgery. Yet here she is stating for us not to copy others etc when she has herself not loved herself..

Angelica Garcia i got off Instagram and I limit even who I watch on YT. I feel so much better about myself. I even backed off a lot of beauty influencers because they use filters, but I just watched madeyelewk’s awesome video on “TH-camrs use Filters”. It’s 3 years old, but I respect rawbeautykristi, bc she doesn’t use them. My skin is red, textured and with pores. And my body doesn’t look like most 20 year old IG Stars. So I avoid it and try to focus on me and my goals. But it’s hard....sorrry for MY rant lol. I agree with you love.
I totally agree with you. I stopped watching a certain TH-camr because her channel went from makeup to just designer bag “reviews” and luxury products. I love that you always stay focused on your platform, reviewing high-end and drugstore makeup for us!

My boyfriend and I were talking about something similar to this except I said something in the moment and it made so much sense. "Everyone's internet is different" meaning he was complaining about something he saw online and I said oh I had no idea.. because I choose not to follow that stuff. I think its important to unfollow. About a year ago I unfollowed every account that made me envious, jealous or made me feel something negative inside. I know its different in your position having your life online but I recommend to anyone who has a love hate relationship with the internet. I now only follow people who radiate the same energy as me and whenever I scroll now, I feel good inside. 🥰

I love this video so much. I swear this is something I think about on a daily whenever I tend to spend too much time on IG. It’s nice to see things like that from influencers sometimes because you think to yourself like dang, they started from the bottom and look at them now so you think you can do that and you have hope, but then you see they kind of seem to forget where they came from and ONLY show the luxurious items they have on the daily and then when you don’t see yourself getting to that point as fast as them it really makes you think otherwise. It’s like a love and hate thing.
Yes, relatability is key in most situations. I agree that owning designer items is fine if you can afford them but to not outright flaunt them and also try and make it a point to show other things too! I own just one LV bag right now (the Kimono style) that I bought from Nordstrom and I also love thrifting as well; Being well rounded and humble is definitely more relatable than only being into designer things and showing them off every chance you get!
I love you, Kathleen! This is why you're my favorite beauty youtuber and one of the only beauty youtubers I watch. You promote beauty positivity. Beauty truly radiates from within and you are a shining example of that. It amazes me how hard you are on yourself because to me, you are one of the most beautiful people here on TH-cam! I always tell people my definition of beauty is when someone is a genuinely nice and kindhearted person. When I am doing good for others and being that kind of person, that is when I feel the most beautiful.

Girl you are so amazing and I showed this video to my two teenage daughters. When I grew up there was no internet. We had no cells....we weren't bombarded with these images and I still felt the exact way...not good enough without all these outside influences ....so I feel for these young girls. They should feel they are enough...its not about your looks or what you own. It's about are you kind, a good person, intelligent and beautiful on the INSIDE. I mean keep good care if your self wear makeup,do it all but you are right that is NOT the most important thing. So thank you😘

I personally NEVER cared about designer, even in high school. I just cared about looking cute no matter how much it was. Lol. I remember my mom got me this HIDEOUS Coach purse because at the time, Coach was ALL the rage. Haha. It was this tiny hot pink purse and I HATED it! I thought about using just because it was Coach but it just NEVER worked. Lol.

Kathleen, it warms my heart as an elementary school teacher to hear that you still think of yours. When I got into teaching I looked up my elementary school teachers online and/ their mailing address and wrote them letters thanking them for inspiring me and I encourage you to do the same. It would mean the world to them.
