I've watched so many episodes of Caravan of Garbage since this one came out and always wondered why they started calling it Green Trivia. Finally hearing the reason had me dying of laughter
In the comics, Abin Sur was flying a spaceship because he had become suspicious of the Guardians and their technology and wanted to be less reliant on it. That uncertainty ends up getting him killed. None of that is in the film, so it doesn't make any sense.
I watched this on a Saturday while my girlfriend was at work and then that night she asked me what I did that day I said " I watched green Lantern" and she exclaimed " OH, I wanted to watch that, you want to watch it again? " and that's how I watched this movie twice in 1 day lol
It's just hilarious that Hal thought he had to conjure up a flamethrower first in order to shoot fire when the ring could just shoot fire. It's like instead of conjuring that completed brick wall he instead conjures up bricks and mortar and builds it himself
@@thedarkemissary The rings in the comics can create anything, including all matter. The only reason Hal makes a flamethrower is because he thinks he first needs to make a flamethrower to make fire. It makes sense that he THINKS this, of course fire comes from a flamethrower, but within the power of the ring (at least in the comics) he doesn't have to. The Green Lantern Corps rings can by themselves make fire, water, kryptonite, anything. Hal just didn't think to, which is pretty silly.
But I will say there is a reason he would make a flamethrower is for the control. If you're imagining making fire straight from your ring, it's a bit tricky to picture that. They can only create what they visualise, so making a gun with bullets inside it and then shooting the gun is what they would rather do than shoot bullets out of their ring. Doesn't answer why the fire is fire coloured though, in the comics Hal has even made a flamethrower and the fire is green.

@@santi_super_stunts2573 But that is Dr. Strange's origin in the comics too. I don't know how faithful the Green Lantern movie is to the comics, but if that happened in the comics too, then maybe the Dr. Strange comic cribbed some elements from the Green Lantern comic.
I actually enjoyed this movie, saw it with my mom in theaters as a kid and then went to the store and bought several of my favorite lanterns from the movie as Mattel had put out 4' figures that we're pretty cheap. Looking back now the movie isn't great, but that's such a great memory for me that I'll always love this film
5:40 it was Martin Campbell's direction that initially got me excited for this movie. Between the Bonds, Mask of Zorro, and Edge of Darkness, I was really looking forward to this. I don't know what happened.
Fun fact in the comics the ring picked John Stewart and Guy Gardner first but Hal Jordan was just closer. Which doesn't make sense, until you learn how Kyle Rayner got his ring. He came out of a bar and the little alien guy said "screw it you'll do."
14:30 Okay the director vs lead clash actually makes a LOT of sense The fact that the director wanted Bradley Cooper actually makes a lot of sense! He came from directing James bond, who always plays it cool. But as we've all learned, Ryan Reynolds is a pretty good comedic actor. Bradley Cooper on the other hand typically plays it straight. Or at least "cool" So I could definitely imagine a James Bond style adventure with Bradley Cooper. I could also imagine a fun romp with Ryan Reynolds. But ne'er the two shall meet
It's crazy that at the same time this movie was coming out there was also that one animated movie, that also tells the origin of Hal Jordan, and is a 1000% better

Holy shit, I'd completely forgotten where "Green Trivia" originated. I had just kind of resigned myself to the fact that I'd never remember the context again.
It's pretty sad how DC took more influence from this Hal Jordan in their animated New52 films (basically everything after Flashpoint Paradox) than from... Oh you know... The other animated Green Lantern movies. They didn't even need to watch the animated tv show or read the most well known comics, First Flight was literally right there to copy everything from.
I think teasing Sinestro turning bad is fine if the movie were any good, much like teasing Mordo turning bad in Dr. Strange. But then again, they gave it to Independence Day: Resurgence despite them agreeing that the "go kick some alien ass" part would be interesting if the movie were any good too. (Actually, they didn't; they originally went with Independence Day: Resurgence, but switched it to Jason Bourne. Maybe they switched back to Independence Day: Resurgence in a later podcast, or maybe they just remembered it wrong)

I watched this on a Saturday while my girlfriend was at work and then that night she asked me what I did that day I said " I watched green Lantern" and she exclaimed " OH, I wanted to watch that, you want to watch it again? " and that's how I watched this movie twice in 1 day lol
Good man.
Keep up the great work guys! Have a very happy Monthbius!
What have they done to deserve that abuse??? Don't wish anyone that
@@disclaimer.imjokin Well they invented Monthbius for one!
Do you not mean yearbius?

Feb 2023, it's still green trivia and I hope not never leaves
I love James Acaster’s brief cameo. he’s just being challenging. more please
My guess is the flamethrower just heats up a green-fuel substance and then works like an actual flame thrower to burn red.
Could the ring make green hot sauce?
It's just hilarious that Hal thought he had to conjure up a flamethrower first in order to shoot fire when the ring could just shoot fire. It's like instead of conjuring that completed brick wall he instead conjures up bricks and mortar and builds it himself
@@waldo109 No. The ring can't create fire. Fire comes from a flamethrower. The ring can create the flamethrower. - as a thought process.
My Dad adamantly defends this movie up and down. He loves it and will argue against anyone that disagrees with his opinion lmao
Is your dad a WB exec?
This kinda reminded of the channels CinemaWins & CinemaSins and their respective mantras
CinemaSins - no movie is without Sin (accurate since this movie is terrible in almost every way lol)
CinemaWins - every & any movie is someone's favourite (I'm guessing this is your dad's favourite?)
Presumably your Dad just has a lot of respect for Dads who dramatically perish in jet fighter explosions.
He must be a jock
Your dad is a good man.
2011 WB: We don't want to depend on another character for this movie's success
2022 WB: BATMAN IN THE FLASH!!!! BATMAN IN THE FLASH! !! ! DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT MICHEAL KEATON BATMAN IS IN THE FLASH!? !! ?
I remember watching Doctor Strange in the cinema and thinking... "wait... this is Green Lantern" because the film follows very identical plot points (even down to fighting a giant face at the end and green power man's teacher becoming yellow power man for the post credit "sequel" tease)
Especially when Hal gets super crippled and looks for a way to heal himself
@@santi_super_stunts2573 But that is Dr. Strange's origin in the comics too. I don't know how faithful the Green Lantern movie is to the comics, but if that happened in the comics too, then maybe the Dr. Strange comic cribbed some elements from the Green Lantern comic.
@@lmabacus404 I was being sarcastic , that never happens lol
@@santi_super_stunts2573, You’re operating on the assumption that *anybody* has seen this movie, big mistake.
@@Jaydee8652 lol yes I am. I Will die by my grave insisting green lantern was a cool movie , not the greatest but cool nonetheless
This Green Trivia needs the guy that shouts Rodney!!!
I’m so happy the Green Trivia bit stuck. Please never stop it
15:47 for an excellent meltdown with lasting repercussions
talking about not apologizing for jokes whilst jack black is on screen … aged like wine
I like Mason’s pronunciation of Sinestro
This is one of the few channels that gets an instant click when I see there's a new video. You guys make me laugh every time! Thank you!
Also super keen for the Green Trivia recurring bit.
Y'know, I'm used to hearing some unexpected things during CoG videos, but "8-bit rendition of Spyro the Dragon music" somehow still surprised me.
5:40 it was Martin Campbell's direction that initially got me excited for this movie. Between the Bonds, Mask of Zorro, and Edge of Darkness, I was really looking forward to this.
I don't know what happened.
Honestly I think Glenn Howerton would make a great green lantern
Rob McElhenny as Guy Gardner?
I'm not sure if that's a good idea
You know, because of the implication.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact in the comics the ring picked John Stewart and Guy Gardner first but Hal Jordan was just closer. Which doesn't make sense, until you learn how Kyle Rayner got his ring. He came out of a bar and the little alien guy said "screw it you'll do."
Just wanted to say happy Monthbius and or Month Knight (I like to be inclusive) to everyone
1 year of Green Trivia. I'm proud to be apart of it
They really kept good on that promise about the Green Trivia ting
02:29 Squeee! There he is, the little rascal XD
Completely forgot about the end credit scene featuring Corn of Coblin
14:30 Okay the director vs lead clash actually makes a LOT of sense
The fact that the director wanted Bradley Cooper actually makes a lot of sense! He came from directing James bond, who always plays it cool. But as we've all learned, Ryan Reynolds is a pretty good comedic actor.
Bradley Cooper on the other hand typically plays it straight. Or at least "cool"
So I could definitely imagine a James Bond style adventure with Bradley Cooper.
I could also imagine a fun romp with Ryan Reynolds.
But ne'er the two shall meet
I can vividly remember liking this movie as a kid but looking back on it I don't know what I was watching 🤣😂
Same
I haven't rewatched it since I was like 8
Swore it was a cinematic masterpiece 😂😂
4:04 "Can we eliminate an obvious revenue source by getting rid of the most obvious toy we could sell from this?", hopefully, an ex-executive at WB.
The edit at 18:37 is a masterpiece.
15:47 And thus Green Trivia was born
It's crazy that at the same time this movie was coming out there was also that one animated movie, that also tells the origin of Hal Jordan, and is a 1000% better
one of the few super heroes my dad likes, besides batman, is green lantern and that is bc one day that animated movie was beign shown on tv and he watched and he liked it
All they had to do was take that movie, make it in live action and boom.
I've genuinely been waiting for you guys to talk about this movie for YEARS now! And we're getting the prequels soon too?
God I hope there's no shenanigans afoot 🙈
The thing i always remember when i think about this movie, is that this came out the same weekend as Father's Day. And then I think about the fact that this movie is all about Dad's dying or being bad fathers.
That movie scene is the PERFECT example of a meeting that could've been done over zoom.
the green trivia bit was hilarious!
2:49 smiling friends mentioned
The thing about this POS movie that pissed me off the most (which is saying a lot) is that the Lanterns live on this amazing planet filled with potential and where do they have their meeting? On a rock, will the excitement ever start
Very happy you mentioned the jocks vs nerds thing so early. This movie was literally: "what if the jock in high school with a bad personality who has everything, became a superhero." really compelling stuff. /s
So following the pattern of them saying they’ll do a trilogy of films people have wanted to see for ages but switching to an adjacent franchise I guess that means they’re gonna do Trainspotting for Caravan of Garbage
The edit on this one is pure gold. Thanks lads. :)
Holy shit, I'd completely forgotten where "Green Trivia" originated. I had just kind of resigned myself to the fact that I'd never remember the context again.
I thought that big-headed James looked like Mr. Mackey, and then they played a clip from South Park. God I love these editors
I love that Maso straight away has your back on this. It’s sweet
Oh man, I finally understand Green Trivia now
I love that James immediate use of the rings would be to conjure hot sauce and a burger from a tube. I love this channel
So THIS is where Green Trivia started!!
I always forget this movie exists until one of my favorite TH-camrs/Podcasters roast it. Thanks for this one, cheers!
Love that the only good thing to come from this movie is Green Trivia
I just came back after watching the recent Thor COG's and he wasn't kidding when he said it's gonna be green trivia forever. 😳
The game was definitely on with that post credit scene
I think teasing Sinestro turning bad is fine if the movie were any good, much like teasing Mordo turning bad in Dr. Strange. But then again, they gave it to Independence Day: Resurgence despite them agreeing that the "go kick some alien ass" part would be interesting if the movie were any good too.
(Actually, they didn't; they originally went with Independence Day: Resurgence, but switched it to Jason Bourne. Maybe they switched back to Independence Day: Resurgence in a later podcast, or maybe they just remembered it wrong)
@@lmabacus404 Yeah Sinestro turning evil did come out of nowhere
It’s a cool looking scene but absolutely no build up to it
Definitely sequel bait, even worse knowing it never came
Shocked that there was no "Mason's Minigun Minute" this episode. Big green miniguns should be way up there on the list.
For all the neg, that moment when he recites the Lantern code while trying to hold back the evil is as epic as it gets
'I'm not taking suggestions' is, quite possibly, the funniest of outbursts.
5:04
...and just when I was getting tired of the Will Smith slap, you brought it right back to hilarious😂
Dude every time I see it I get this crazy rush of empathy for Chris Rock. I'd for sure have been about 600x less composed than he was.
@@A_Salty_Fishe Thats how you can tell it was real.
He acted with dignity and didn't make the situation worse knowing he could've come up with 100s of insults 1000s times worse.
Absolute professional.
...that and Chris Rocks isnt that good of an actor😅
I would 100% have watched "Don't run outta clock juice" if they exploded like that. Great edit.
and thus green trivia was born
Obi-Wan slowly screaming "No" was genuinely the funniest visual gag I have ever seen. I am crying with laughter. 🤣🤣
How could you possibly watch this movie during monthbius? I've gone to the theater and seen it 15 times in the hopes that I can start a suit for EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!
It's May of 2023 and it's still Green Trivia. Good on ya
