reminds me of my last favorite cheese ruling, which forbids castling your kind upward with a rook from a freshly promoted pawn. if your board state is such that this is both possible *and* your best move you deserve to pull off the most big brained castle in the universe, and the Official Chess Rules are anti-fun jerks for this IMO

Also the described version of castling was never legal, the rules were just poorly worded so that this was one possible interpretation. No arbiter would allow that move. The "rule change" was just rewriting the already standing rule to be less ambiguous

Does NL not know about the en pasant rule? I thought he would since he played chess in tournaments. That rule is the youngest addition the game in regards to how the pieces move. I think time control might be even younger.
