To be fair, I think Pepa and Felix are always worried about Pepa's emotions because they have consequences that directly impact other people visibly. And it's possible that living with her emotions on full display has diminished their skill at identifying emotions well, since you just look at the weather to identify Pepa's emotional state. Seeing that their kids don't have this curse, they get accidentally ignored by Pepa and Felix.

However, she was an adorable little girl with a big heart for helping others so the town people would eat her food anyways because it could heal them and make Julieta feel good. Over time as her gift grew, her cooking improved, so those were considered double bonus to both family and the village. ♡

@@pughetti Not true. I had a baby and the background my mother put on her phone wasn’t me holding my daughter but my oldest childless sister holding her. I’m the youngest of three and my brother is the middle. He lives further away and just talking about him makes her cry because of how much she misses him. My mom once explained that loving your kids is like a pie divided evenly. You love each and every child with the same love, no slice bigger or smaller and all part of the same pie (love).
I think the relationship is just different depending on when you were born and whether or not your the only son/daughter. The oldest is always the learning child and the one with the most expectations. Youngest are considered the baby and doted on because they’re last. Middles get either more or less of both expectations and doting but more attention if they’re the only boy/girl. This dynamic is pretty much universal unless there’s the toxic golden child and scape goat child dynamic thrown in.

@@generalcodsworth4417 my first watch, I assumed that Casita was either listening to or sensing the characters intentions/desires - mirabel was DETERMINED to get the candle, so Casita helped as much as possible, while the others were mostly trying to evacuate (grabbing Antonio etc) or calling out to mirabel to leave the candle behind + get out to safety.
The only other people who went after the candle were Isabela + Camilo; both used their powers to try and get to the candle, but when their powers failed them, they were (likely) scared + gave up on trying to reach it, so Casita prevented them from falling as best it could while falling apart + prioritizing mirabel's attempts, because Mirabel was the only one who wasn't relying on her powers AND was the only one brave enough to keep going while Casita crumbled, as she wasn't dependent on her powers (due to not having any)
I've watched it twice since, and that's still the best explanation I have tbh 😅 - we do see that Casita can 'sense' intentions or needs - like with the stairs turning into a slide, Luisa's treadmill, or the hat-hanging trick earlier, so it makes sense that Casita has some awareness, especially as very few people talk directly to Casita like Mirabel does.

Fr, most Disney/Pixar movies are perfectly fine with only one movie, and any others I feel like would be a cash grab. But Encanto has a lot of room to expand on and lore to learn. I'd seriously take a prequel/sequel, or even just series if it's actually thought through

That would make a great short for sure! And how Abuela came up with the ceremony too. She could be sharing the story over dinner while the family makes a spot for Bruno and does everything to reassure the awkward lovable uncle that they want him there. It’d be cute too if Bruno felt bold enough to put on his Hernando persona to crack some jokes and Camilo awkwardly adjusting to the scary uncle being there, having once been the one to have made him out to be a boogeyman.

I wish we got to see more interactions between Julietta/Agustin and their other daughters. We get lots of screen time of them interacting with Mirabel, but we get almost nothing of them with Isabela or Luisa.
Also this may be a stretch, but I think Julieta is the least stressed out of the Madrigals (excluding Felix and Agustin). Her gift doesn't really put a ton of pressure on her, and it isn't something that forces her to keep a tight check on her emotions either, it just lets her help people. I'm sure there's some sort of pressure that I'm missing, but she just seems like a pretty easy-going person for the most part. I honestly think she loves her gift so much and just loves being able to help people.
And another thing, I love how differently she and Pepa handle the Bruno situation. I think that Pepa didn't really believe Bruno had purposely ruined her wedding, but after he left she convinced herself he had ruined it on purpose so that instead of being sad that he left she could feel angry. I think she was afraid that the sadness would consume her, and that this was also greatly influenced by her power and the pressure it placed on her to always be happy. On the other hand, we see that Julieta seems to have come to terms with Bruno's disappearance and instead of talking about him with anger/fear like everyone else in the family she just seems sad and you can tell she just misses her brother.
Edit: I know that no body is going to want to read this entire comment because it's already way too long but WOAH. HOW DID I GET OVER 800 LIKES IN ONE DAY?? THANK YOU I'VE NEVER HAD THIS MANY LIKES!!

I think that there is probably stress in always cooking to heal everyone but maybe she really loves the task. If I had to always have food available, I'd get over the novelty FAST.
Realistically though,Julieta's family has the more consistently useful gifts. The town and the family call on Luisa's strength constantly. Isabela makes things beautiful as well as provides a product that the town can sell (not sure if her power extends to crops but maybe?) and Julieta has a line of people to heal every day. So maybe Abuela's attitude can't pressure Julieta too much because she holds that bit of power and confidence. Her gift is tied to her love for people so she just has to...be herself in a way that her sister can't.

Maybe is not as hard as Peppa having to control her emotions, or Bruno struggling with his visions, but I can see stress in her gift as well. Imagine waking up everyday to be mostly stuck at the kitchen because your gift depends on it. Also, she has the pressure that she can’t just take a vacation because people get hurt everyday, unlike Pepa or Bruno that they could just lock themselves up in their rooms to take a break and townsfolk would be ok with it, because they know Pepa needs to stay calm, and they were scared of Bruno. But if Julieta wanted a break… Uff, her job next day would have been too much, or she wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the free time, because someone was probably going to be every now and then calling out for her. She probably barely has time to even sit down and rest during the day.

Julieta (and Augustin) are actually what put Encanto well above Coco in my mind. They actually listen and support their child, like even when Julieta doesn't beleive Casita is breaking she does beleive Mirabel is struggling and tries to help. Heck she goesn't even try to heal Mirabel till they've talked and Mirabel is ready to eat.
And when the Castia IS breaking they stand up to Abuella to defend their kid.
Could they have done more over the years? Maybe but there's also culteral/generational roles at play in the family which is kind of the real villian of the movie .
Coco on the otherhand always felt like his parents just joined in the bullying/crushing of Miguel's dreams because they had to follow the grandmother's lead.

    • @Xkittyloverr1997
      @Xkittyloverr1997 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

I see that, but Coco is still a valid representation of generational trauma. What makes them both unique is that in Coco, Miguel was on a journey to find out "why is my family like this?" because the person who started this cycle of trauma was dead, the only person who really knew what happened was dying, and no one questioned why music was perceived as bad until someone was born with a particular passion for it. In Encanto, they're dealing with generational trauma that is less obvious, amd the person who began it is still alive and propagating it. In addition, the Madrigal family is well respected, whereas Miguel's family was somewhat ostracized by the town for being odd, giving Miguel more reason to actively seek to end the cycle, while Mirabel had to find out there even was one first

I absolutely adore Julieta as a character, I wish they had given her a bit of a larger role and maybe explored how she felt about Bruno leaving more, I especially liked the scene where she stood up to Abuela (her own mother, keep in mind) and confronted her about the way she treated Mirabel. I would love to have a mother like Julieta. Also the "Ay, Agustin. Eat" scene is one of my favorites

Encanto is too good for us not to get a sequel, I can't imagine how relieved and happy Julieta was when Mirabel finally 'saw' herself, she probably cried tears of joy so much and I could just picture Mirabel patting her mama's back with an 'I don't know what to do in this situation' while Julieta is hugging her daughter and showering her with kisses

Anyone else notice how Mirabel resembles her mom more than her sisters? Both her sisters have straight hair, their father has straight hair, she has curly hair, her mom has curly hair. Her mother is determined to keep her daughter and not lose her like she lost her brother because everyone saw him as an outcast, Mirabel is determined to keep her family together, happy and living in harmony because she wants them all to feel indifferent, powers or no powers, in a way they both are trying to keep their family together. Julieta tries hard to understand everyone in the family, especially the children, Luisa and Isabela talked (sang) to their sister in an effort to make her understand and she tried her best to understand them and even tried to help. Pepa and Julieta forgave their brother for leaving once they finally learnt the truth, Mirabel forgave Isabela once she found the truth out about her sister

What I love about this movie is that we actually get 2 parents present and that are so lovable. I kept seeing people say Bruno could've been Mirabel's father, but that doesn't seem right. It's always one parent is not present (mostly dead) or is a mean parent. Seeing Julietta and Augustine be so caring and understanding of Mirabel just makes it human and family like
