ahem....actually it very much reminds me of how a traditional Trinidadian steel pan is actually made in the pan yard. Same principle initially starting out with marking out the designated notes etc and so forth on the face of the actual steel itself. Only difference between this instrument and our national steel pan of T'dad and Tobago is that the end product is turned flip inside out and played from its underside using hands instead of a wooden rubber covered stick which is used to hit the designated notes in our own pans. The sound of this relatively newer concept is very similar to the sound of our own steel pans in the earlier days of the 1930's , 40's 50's which had that lovely reflective watery sound just like these pans . The Trinidadian steel pans (originating from oil drums), today are lined with Chrome to give a shriller more acute sound which can be heard in the large steel orchestras and during our Carnival season in early February. These pans however have a more reflective resonating quality and gentler sound compared with the shrill of modern loud Caribbean steel pans. Funny how musical instruments travel and relate across the world .
@@aymengaalich5681 It depends where you get them. You can find them in independent online stores and on ebay anywhere from $500 USD to more than $2000 USD. Obviously the higher quality handpans will cost you more. A cheaper alternative would be a RAV drum (tongue drum) They are similar in design and they have a sightly different tone to their sound but are still quality instruments if you can't afford a handpan. I've seen these go from $200 USD on up, again higher quality made drums will cost you more so it all boils down to how much money you've got to spend and what level of quality you want/can afford. Hope this helps! ^-^
Remarkable to watch something that sounds so beautiful, and created so thoughtfully with loving hands. This level of craftsmanship is an incredible gift and I thank you for opening our eyes into what it takes to create these gorgeous instruments!
Wish I could afford one. Playing the djembe and doumbek relaxes me. Listening to the meditative notes of a handpan, puts me in a hypnotic and relaxed state.
Good evening from Greece. I would like to ask is this magical handpan musical instrument made? I would be interested. Continue this magical musical journey!
Seeing the kind of work necessary to make one of these, I do understand the pricing. But I wonder: shouldn't we be able to machine-make these much more precisely and quickly? I mean, get the mould right once, then bang them out in dozens? Am I missing something here?
Hola, una obra magnifica que me da mucho ganas a hacerlo para para probar :-) entonzes me gusteria preguntar las notas tuyas y probables guias para ponerme en la obra! Gracias y un abrazo
I have a hang drum my friend gave me but it was used when he bought it so he gave it to me because he did not know how to play it I did not know how to play it either I used this instrument to bring healing to my community that is suffering from police brutality I love the way you are sound when I did my research how much these instruments cost I said to myself I will just play what I have it is Out Of Tune and it doesn't sound that good so I play it anyway just to bring Good Vibes to my community
How do you get the disks that define the size that each key will be? I'd love to make myself some of these. Mostly because I simply can't afford to buy one. :c
Thank you for this video bro :) It’s interesting to see other people’s approaches to handpan making :) Great work. I have one question if you would like to answer me I’d be very happy :) Is that the only shaping you do? With the teardrop hammer on the borders? I’m going to that phase, and I’ll do everything by hand, with no sand rammers. Do you use anything else ? Much love and respect brother. Thank you :)
Hello Cenz, you have an excellent channel, I have learned a lot watching your videos .. Thank you for that .. you would be so kind, to tell me how I can get the scale drawings of each note, to try to refine a frying pan of tests .. there is some PDF with the molds? Thanks a lot. Greetings from Chile

I don't believe Gong has separate symmetrical impressions in steel.

What material you use to make handpans? Its awesome
Nitrided steel
Always mention that this was invented by Panart in Berne, Switzerland, Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer.
Amazing!
But what is the program do you use at the end? Look's like some program from ISS )))
already found) it's Linotune ! )
this is why the handpan is expansive.

The shaping process before hand tuning could be moderately overhauled to make it much more time /cost-effective. Nice product though.

Who is Winston 'Spree' Simon?
Alguien me puede decir cual es el nombre del fondo musical por favor? Gracias!
Where did he get the pan that was already in a bowl shape? Thats not a 55 gallon drum lid that Jamaicans which is flat
If the two halves were not glued but soldered the sound would be brighter
