- I got a perm three years ago at a salon for $250 because the length of my hair. That's Gucci money! So I decided to try perming my hair my self two years ago which costed me around $50 for everything. I personally love my hair and I get so many compliments on it. You should know a few tips before you think you want a perm:
1) Make sure your hair is super healthy before perming. It shouldn't be over processed, broken, fragile etc. Perming is actually pretty damaging to the hair so you want to make sure your hair is in its healthiest condition before perming.
2) RESEARCH!!! I literally looked up everything I could about perms for about a year before I decided to finally do it. Make sure you know what rod size would be good for your hair length and type, what type of perm (Alkaline, Acid, Exothermic) would your hair react best to etc. Seriously research everything.
3) Don't get frustrated. Perming your hair usually takes about 1.5-2 hours depending on hair length. Rolling your hair is what takes the longest. Don't worry about rolling them perfect either. I think that having un-perfect curls make them look more natural.
4) Make sure you perm your hair on a day that you're not going to have much to do the next 48 hours. Rinsing with water only is okay but no product should be put on the hair for 48 hours minimum after perming.
5) Try to switch to a SULFATE-FREE shampoo after perming. It helps the perm last longer.

Cause its usually strangers doing perms. If u know what youre doing, it probably ends up better if you do it yourself. Nobody knows your vision like you do 💁

Fab tutorial ! ..... I’m a qualified hairdresser since 1984 & it’s great to see the return of the perm. BIG TIP: the 1st stage creates the curl. The 2nd stage (neutraliser) should be used with a sponge & put on every part thoroughly as it’s the stage that SETS the curl permanently.

I’m a licensed cosmetologist you explained everything really well you did a very good job your hair looks amazing the only thing I would recommend is if you have super long hair piggyback the rods if you put too much on one rod the solution might not absorb correctly and you won’t have curls in some Places but it’s your choice if you don’t have enough rods to piggyback buy extra solution and just douse your hair

My Mom and her friends used to do that during the 80‘s, maybe 90‘s. I can still remember, how they helped each other. Old things are coming back, i tell ya. :-)
I have nightmares of the perks my mom used to give me during the 80s and early 90s. They were so tight, and all I ever wanted was large, soft curls. Over the past few months, I've been reconsidering perming my hair, but not with rollers. I have those long curly tubes for super long hair, and I know there are some salons that do perms with those. I'm willing to try it at least once 😜

your hair permed looks exactly like my hair after a shower, but i straighten it tho because i prefer straight hair, we always want what we dont have but both are beautiful and you've got lovely curls

Always remember to use very clarifying and cleaning shampoo beforehand, no conditioner. Advice from a cosmetologist student 😀 this video is great tho!

The bottom/middle section of my hair fell back straight while the top half stayed “permed.” 😞 I’m thinking the cause is my hair is too straight, heavy, and all one straight layer... help! When can I re-perm?

If u fried ur hair how can I fix it. My daughter wanted a perm so I tried the home perm by ogilvie it didnt take very good and it dried the ends of her hair.
