Oh Jingle….we feel ya! As section hikers, my husband and I decided to skip up and do the Presis last summer. (We were 65, 66)….we did hike hut to hut….to which we decided we could’ve flown to Italy for a week for the amount we spent on that adventure. LOL! Our next section was back down south where we had left off in VA. I about got down on the ground and kissed that flat trail that was NOT BOULDER CLIMBING. Lord have mercy. At least now we kind of know what’s coming when we finish the trail next year. God Speed….we are rooting for y’all! (My husband kept saying….”who looked at this and thought it was a trail?”😂😂😂)
This is the day I met you! I can here us as you passed on your way up South Twin. You asked us if we had seen a man in a yellow shirt and I told you I could see him from my vantage point 😊 The Whites are no joke, that’s for sure. We’re also at 5:57. That’s my daughter out on that rock edge on the right. Love watching your journey!
😂😂😂I enjoyed the ending so much lol I wish I had a concussion lol. I’m so glad I get to watch your videos and I’m along on this ride though videos with you both 👍😊
As I said earlier: I DID NOT LIKE THE WHITES! My knees were on fire. Just not my cup of tea. We stayed at Lake of the Crowd (I was inside in a bunk room where one person did not 27:56 honor the lights off time and Dee stayed in the Dungeon. He had the better option). I was dismayed when we got to Maine and the trail did not improve. Just like the Whites but with little maintenance. Once we got to the ponds and lakes, it improved immensely. Stay tough.. you don’t have to be in a good mood! These mountains provided much fodder for Tail stories in the future! Be safe and Happy Hiking!
Let me add that after Pinkham Notch, there is, or was, a chair lift up to the top of Wildcat Ridge. I wish we had put our packs on the chair lift and slacked up. For me, that was my toughest climb of the Whites. Luckily, the weather was beautiful and just above me, I saw a bear being chased down and off the mountain by a Raven. That took just a second but my mouth stayed in a big O for quite awhile! So check on the chair lift and the possibility of it taking your packs up. I’d have payed a good amount of cash for that!
This is good information! I’ll look into it. We are on a healing break right now, but our friend Steps is preparing to tackle Wildcat (waiting on this rain to pass) and this may be helpful to him.
Yes, this is true, but they only take 2-4 (a couple huts allow 6) and it is first come, first to get the spots. Also, you can’t get there before 4 pm and be allowed the WFS. It’s quite the gamble to sleep on the dining room floor after all the guests go to bed. The AMC huts weren’t built for the AT hikers, and that demographic make up only about 4% of their paying guests, so while WE think we are special, the AMC doesn’t. 😂 They have created the discount card for the thru-hikers as a sort of “olive branch” between the AT community and the AMC. One day we were close, but I was dragging a bit too much and another couple of hikers beat us to the hut just after 4 to snag the WFS spots. So, WFS is possible, but not something you can count on.

From Jingle: we do the sugar free electrolytes and drink mixes. I actually eliminated the electrolytes, as they just seemed to make me sweat MORE. Subtitles continued with the additional electrolytes.

FYI...On those huts...if you're a through hiker, you can work for food and night in hut for free. But there's only so many hikers they allow do that

Stay safe🙏 hope blues clues is okay 🥾🥾
Thank you. He is now at home, resting and recovering and will pick up heading south in a couple weeks.

Thank you!!! (Jingle)
I eat high protein low carb too. Most plant protein is soy based and that wrecks my gut. Sympathy. Be sure you drink sugar free electrolytes.
