I feel a massive problem with this game is just how small “King Kong” looks. There is no weight behind his punches and all the terrain is so much bigger than him
It's because they didn't make the game to scale of King Kong. He's like the same size as a human scale based on environment and that doesn't even look that big in scale either.
Judging by the title I am assuming the story is supposed to cover him growing to be king of the island. By my knowledge from the Peter Jackson film he is on an island of giant creatures. I see no problems visually ( relatively speaking), but from the bit of gameplay I saw with Muta it looks like it gets repetitive way to quickly and would make a person quickly bored ( why doing taxes are more fun lol). Also doesn't help the textures on the terrain look about on par with PS2 at the highest settings.
I don’t understand what is the point of making a King Kong game when everything else is bigger than him 😂😂 like even the trees in this game would technically be the size of the Empire State Building
No kidding, I've had like 5 different reactions of "There's absolutely NO WAY this game can be topped for how bad it is." this year. Game devs are actually competing for who can make the worst game lol.
Only in this mediocre game era smh it was a good Kong game back the late 2000s if I remember, you got to play as Kong fighting dinosaurs and as humans shooting and trying to escape giant bugs reptilian Kong himself
When you thought the game couldn't sink any lower, at 0:45 seconds in the video we see a loading screen with Kong fighting a dinosaur. That dinosaur is not in fact a monster that belongs to King Kong, but is actually a creature called the Malusaurus which was concept art for the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World. Whether they had the rights to use the design or not, they were so lazy they couldn't come up with an original creature.
This is one of those games that makes me say "why did they even release it and not cancel the game and claim a tax write off or something." There is no way this game turns a profit, even if the budget was clearly $10 and a pack of sandwiches.

I still disagree that this is a bad year for games. Some of this year’s titles like Starfield & Baldurs Gate 3 have gotten me back into gaming after years of not even owning a PC

For those curious; the publisher gave the devs only one year and reportedly a small budget to make this game. Also, supposedly, there were only 2-20 people working on this game at a time. If all of this is true, it's no wonder why this game is as bad as it is. The publisher is supposedly known for following the "Quantity > Quality" approach, and usually hires these devs, who are apparently indie and don't have a lot of money on their own, to make them.

Bruh, we had a load of amazing titles this year and they keep comming. Positive and good games just dont generate clicks on youtube lol. Bad games were always present.
As a game developer who focuses on quality and good gameplay mechanics... I have to say that this thing is really insulting. They couldn't even get the basic concepts of King Kong correct, look at the scale here. Look at the grass texture and compare the grass to Kong. The physics has the same issue (gravity). Those animations are really bad, although they do have an acceptable facial animation rig under the hood. The walking and jogging poses are not monkey like and the sprint animation is very ugly and awkward. This is bad. New game developers... Please don't do this, this should be what your first little game looks like, not your best release.
this looks like the type of game I made in my spare time in highschool using the free trial of a game developer design program, I just have to wonder who green light this game and how much crack they were on when deciding it
Kong is in the public domain however Legendary are making current Monsterverse films with Kong,Peter Jacksons King Kong was Universal, and this game in particular is based on King Kong of Skull island a story continuation "mainly through comics" of the original 1933 film through the Marian C Cooper estate. the IP / licensing story for everything KONG is so convoluted! I understand why each of the Kong versions are so specific about the creature designs and heights...

Not gonna lie, kinda like it from what you showed. Its not even a $20 game tho. Like they're over charging for sure, but im gonna list it for a sale.
Looks more fun than Golem did
11:39 - I spat my coffee looking at Kong's glorious face.
Dude this is actually kind of a vibe.. bring be back to the PS2 days! This just needs some more refined animations, materials and lighting! Maybe some upgraded particle effects and you'd be sweet.
And the important part; financial compensation for wasting our time
To me if a game is FUN and enjoyable thats all that matters to me. If it has bad graphics I couldn't give a shit less. A fun game is still a fun game
18:28 A .png scare is the same thing the first fnaf did and yet this game made it worse
I can count on one hand how many successful AAA games were this year. Thats sad.
whats fucked for me is im looking at this and thinking it doesnt look bad...and then remembering my expectation of games is still stuck in ps1/ps2 era because ive never had the money to move on from those until recently
certainly one of the peculiar games of time
As an unskilled game dev myself, I would uninstall my computer through the nearest window before releasing anything this bad.
That game doesn't look that bad to me, I think you're probably just spoiled. The only thing to be concerned at this point is platforms it's available for and the starting price. If it's more than $30usd then that's too much regardless, but if it's less than that, then why not.
Can’t wait for the “I slept in rise of Kong VR for a year” video.
Made the DS game look like a Masterpiece
But, is this worse than Golum? Maybe it isn't and people just deleted Golum out of their memory because it's so bad thus thinking this is the worst game of 2023. Maybe, it really is worse.
The Sandworms in the first Overlord game where amazing and gave me a feeling of dread whenever i stepped in the soft sand when i was playing it the first time a good few years ago, the sandworm here is a joke, there was no feeling of it being a Sandworm (or a boss), might as well punch a tree to get the same feeling
Why can't we get a big budget triple-a King Kong game? No we gotta get this fucking trash instead
I wish we could go back the times when we had the best games of the years every few months vs bad game after bas game
Dude, bad games have existed forever. 2023 has had a great game every month and a handful of stinkers and everybody acts like all games are bad. Stop whining.
You mean this year multiple games this year could be goty no fucking doubt.
Bruh, we had a load of amazing titles this year and they keep comming. Positive and good games just dont generate clicks on youtube lol. Bad games were always present.
Forspoken, Redfall, Gollum and Now Rise of Kong fighting to see which is the worse game of 2023
This is sad because games can only get worse from here
Sounds like someone hasn’t played Custer’s Revenge and ET
"Oh I got crabs as well. Interesting interesting." -Muta 2023
Quote of the year.
@15:54. Can you show that on youtube? Nature at work.
it's crazy how we can't go one year without a game Iike this ☠️
As a game developer who focuses on quality and good gameplay mechanics...
Surprisingly looks better than I imagined in my head
The kaiju community hates it too 💀
This game's sick! Why is everyone hating on it?
Love how 2023 started off with great games and then got worse and worse as time goes on lol
this looks like the type of game I made in my spare time in highschool using the free trial of a game developer design program, I just have to wonder who green light this game and how much crack they were on when deciding it
Gollum: I'm the worst game of 2023
Skull Island: Rise of Kong: Hold my beer
Nothing better than a high Mutahar video while having a sesh 😂
Kong is in the public domain however Legendary are making current Monsterverse films with Kong,Peter Jacksons King Kong was Universal, and this game in particular is based on King Kong of Skull island a story continuation "mainly through comics" of the original 1933 film through the Marian C Cooper estate. Also the 2005 game is my favorite game of all time.
the IP / licensing story for everything KONG is so convoluted! I understand why each of the Kong versions are so specific about the creature designs and heights...
not so bad, and definetly not the worst game in a year
It is at least playable I guess, which is sadly more than a lot of AAA games can say on release day lol. But yeah, charging $40 for this is a crime,.
what are you talking about? this is by far the best game of the century!! The cutscenes alone make it worthy of a novel peace price!
As someone who is a fan of King Kong this game is a insult
Monke
Return to
I shall
If any kid receives this for Christmas, their life is hopeless.
Glad you mentioned AVGN easily one of the best OG TH-camrs of all time!
if i saw this game without knowing it's supposed to be king kong i would literally think it's just supposed to be a normal gorilla
I feel like this was made as a meme game by some dude(eheh monke) and they entered it into some competition where some game out of touch game exec went "This'll go well with the kiddies!"
4:20 Mutahar got so allergic to the game he sneezed
