    Ok... now what if I want to make a gradient ?

      Do you mean adding a slope to the floor? I think you can. Try this:
      1. Go to an elevation or section view and add a reference plane with a slope.
      2. create a model in place mass and set work plane onto the reference plane.
      3. place some lines or reference lines and create a form
      4. use divided surface and apply the family.
      You can also use pattern based family, try to search 'hex' in my list.
