    Just thought I'd add that I machine washed my Afterparty sweater in that exact colourway (Venetian) and undyed white colourwork and the white remained as white throughout. It's quite possible that this was due to the colour catcher, but it came out undyed as well. Just don't want anyone to worry :D

    That was great. I love Holst Super Soft. I knitted Skeindeer's Blåfjell sweater in it and it is soft enough for me to wear just over a long-sleeved t-shirt, so touching my neck. It is very light but warm and cosy. And as you say the price and the colours make it an excellent choice. I washed mine in the washing machine on the wool cycle. The only thing I would do next time is knit my sleeves and body a bit longer because it stretches in width and shrinks in length, but not a lot.

    I am currently knitting the weekender sweater using 2 strands held together. The colors are purple haze and orchid. I got the inspiration from Amy of the stranded podcast

    I use a drop of Dawn dishwashing soap to my regular sweater wash soap to remove oil. It is used to wash oil spills off of wildlife trapped in oil spills and is very effective at removing spinning oil with just a tiny bit. The yarn blooms beautifully.

    I cannot thank you enough for recommending Holst yarn which, prior to your video, I hadn't heard of. Being on a tight budget doesn't always allow much leeway for my knitting indulgence (actually a mental health necessity) so finding good yarn that comes in extensive colorways is a welcome treat! Thank you too for your thorough presentations and for sharing your expertise - much appreciated.

    I really appreciate these videos as as I’ve recently ordered some Holst Supersoft. After receiving it, though, I wasn’t sure about it so your videos helped. Did I understand you knitted your swatches with 2 strands? Thank you for such a clear explanation and demonstration.

    thanks so much for the helpful vid!!! how much would you say that this yarn changes in width and length after the wash? I'm crocheting a cardi with it right now that is a bit too wide, and am wondering if I should get rid of a few stitches and size it down or just leave it and see what happens after the wash!

    Did you knit your swatches using a single strand or double strand?

  • @millsgirl2
    @millsgirl2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a knit with it quite a few times. And found exactly what you did, that it will shrink in terms of row gauge but not noticeably in width/stitch gauge. It’s a magnificent value, I knit my Rocquaine sweater Holding it double and it has amazing stitch definition even though I have put it through the washing machine a couple of times. It shrank both washes so I think that something to keep in mind too.

    This was terrific. I have yarn for a project with Scottish yarn used in a Cristal Seyforth pattern and it is full of machine oil and I had no idea how to handle it or the properties it would develop once washed. Thank you so much! I had also been curious about Holst...so a double bonus.

    Thank you so much for this video! I really enjoyed it :) I knit quite a lot in holst (different qualities) yarn and I do like how it knits and wears . I think it has a great tendency to soften up with wearing -and that is great. But what I find challenging is ribbing. I think that rib is getting very loose, not elastic and dedinitely not so pretty.. Do you maybe have same issue ? Or do you have any tricks ? I tried smaller needles - but problem remain same.

    Like others I love Holst Supersoft but am now wary of machine washing on a wool programme, even on a old cycle due to shrinkage. Using my old machine I experienced just a small degree of shrinkage on length but my new machine has significantly reduced garment size even on a cold wool wash. I had the same experience with the equally wonderful Holst wool/cotton blend Coast. From now on I will stick to hand washing all my Holst projects of which there will be many more as the yarn is wonderful - amazing colour range, incredibly versatile and fabulously affordable.

    I find watching you wash holst supersoft very confusing. I’ve bought a whole large bag of this wool, because of the price. I’ve knit 1/2 a weekender with it in 2 colours - light blue, and a cream color, and I did 2 swatches both in greys and pink & cream. Every one of my swatches left a very very dark grey color in the water. Very dark grey. Every single color. I don’t know why your swatch only had a bit of red in the water. When I washed the grey swatch, I didn’t know if it was the spinning oil or the yarn color, but when I washed the light blue and the pink ones it was truly amazing how dark the water was. I washed them 3 times, with the water still dark, then gave up. Why is my yarn so different from yours?

    Great instructional video!! Such helpful info to add to my knowledge base. I loved the segment where you prepared two samples of swatches. The before and after results such an eye opener and really shows the importance of swatching and blocking especially on yarn that may bloom during washing. I never was aware of yarn containing spinning oil so great info here. Also I absolutely love the fact that you have made a point to highlight affordable yarns that are lovely to knit. Thanks again for taking the time to pass along such valuable information to all of us!!XOXOLynn

    Very informative and helpful! I've only knitted one garment in Holst Supersoft, a sweater in the Geranium colour, with one strand of yarn. I can actually wear it on my skin without aything under it, which surprised me - I think it's because it's so light and airy. I love the Venetian red, I might buy that for a dress. I'm also thinking of getting some Supersoft to knit together with one strand of silk mohair. But after watching your video it occured to me that it might not be so easy to wash these together. Have you tried knitting Holst Supersoft with silk mohair or other types of yarn or do you have any thoughts on this?
