There's something incredibly unsettling about this show. I feel like I'm watching an episode of The Mandela Catalogue and I'm waiting for something disturbing to suddenly happen.
The weird public access vibe of this show reminds me a lot of this artist collective called Whoop Dee Doo. They work with different community organizations like schools, youth groups, bands, and performers to make performance art pieces that always have some bizarre twist to them, and they’ve even put a few of their shows on public access television. I actually got to meet the two founders at an artist residency, and I recommend you check them out if you’re a fan of this weird nostalgic vibe!
I can't help but feel sorry for the kids in the audience, it's like their parents dropped them off at the studio and then drove off to the airport for a one-way flight to Barbados.
This is like those assemblies you had to go to in elementary school. The ones where they have a bunch of actors and props acting out a super cliche anti-bullying short play. Except here, the message never even starts, the "evil" character doesn't do ANYTHING, and the actors are constantly starting over from the beginning, because they likely forgot their lines. (That's my theory for why the "name game" thing popped up so many times.)
This show is why so much analog and mascot horror are based on old puppets and children's shows. Because the actual shows were just that creepy and unsettling.

Also Cleo the Clown (isn't Cleo a girl's name?) is smoking a cigar, not a cigarette. I heard most people just puff on cigars instead of inhaling, but it's like I said about the second hand smoke.
I thought it was too especially cause I could only find mention of it from one TH-cam channel from 9 months ago. But I did wind up finding an intro to another Beat City Kids special from 1995 called "Bad Candy" that was posted to TH-cam 12 years ago. So pretty sure this is legit lol
I remember once in my elementary school they had a puppet show like this, but it was Metrolink train themed. I don't remember much of it, but it had to do with safety, and there was one character named Evil the Weavel. I can not find anything online about it.

This show is reminding me of two Disney Channel shows I vaguely remembered from my early childhood, Welcome to Pooh Corner and Dumbo's Circus. Both shows had costume characters which I don't remember having any problem with as a kid, but revisiting them as an adult, I notice how cursed they look, especially by today's standards. Well, the Dumbo's Circus ones don't look too bad, but the Pooh ones look very off model for what they're based on.
Defunctland did DefunctTV episodes on both of these in the past few years. They were childhood favorites of mine and I’m much more forgiving about that stuff. XD
