As someone who has loved Buggy for so, so long, I was hoping whoever they got for the role would deliver. As soon as I watched the episode and recognized who it was, I knew we were in for it 😂. They could NOT have gotten anyone better than Jeff Ward. His energy is always so intense.
At the start of this episode, it explained: The devil fruit takes away his power, and his ability to move (he can move a little, but not enough to even attempt a swim).
Definitely a defining moment for Luffy and why he holds Shanks in such high esteem. Shanks and his crew prove they’re badasses and will fight when needed but they’re not reckless they pick their battles wisely. And Shanks willing to put up with insults by the bandit yet shows can scare a sea-monster away on command without going into too much detail lets just say Shanks is very powerful. More than that he loses his arm for Luffy’s sake and Luffy sees he that wasn’t ready yet to be a pirate.
"This anime was freakin' epic." Why, yes. Yes, it is. The comics story has continued for 25 years, which makes it an 'epic' in a very literal sense. And Oda-sensei's story is a masterpiece -- it has made me laugh, cheer and weep. With that in mind, you might want to keep those tissues handy for future episodes (I won't say which ones). As I've stated elsewhere, the image of Shanks entrusting his hat to Luffy is one of the iconic scenes from both the manga and the anime, and they recreated it perfectly. Your response to it is no shame or surprise at all. Looking forward to your next!
I don't understand people who don't get emotional when Shanks gives Luffy the hat... it's my choice for the most iconic moment in anime history and somehow, amazingly the live action made it even better. Shank's sees something special in Luffy just like Luffy is able to see what is special about the people he invites to his crew.

That's the thing, One Piece is not serious. You'd be enjoy it more if you just of it as just a goofy show. The creator, Eiichiro Oda meant it to be goofy. He wants people that watch or read it have a great laugh.
