Oh my goodness, that Sears catalog brings back some memories! Lol!😂 When I was a little girl around age 5, when the dinosaurs still roamed the earth… I modeled for Sears. I remember modeling those thick velvet dresses and sets of pajamas. I also modeled for greeting cards. (My mom saved a few of the blank cards.) I used to see them when I was looking for other things. That was the extent of my “fancy” modeling career. Haha! I never modeled magazine covers or became famous. Ok by me. I got to be a kid. I have had many other brushes with fame in my lifetime. 😊
I love those catalogs. It reminds me of the endless hours spent as a kid thumbing through the Sears, Eaton's and especially Consumers Distributing catalogs making mental lists of all the things I would buy with my nonexistent money.😊
Oh I forgot about Consumers distributing, that was awesome! I love catalogs, I still do, I miss them. I spent hours looking through them even as an adult! When I was first married, in the seventies, I bought quite a few christmas gifts from Consumers and the Sears Christmas catalog!
@@marjielalonde3875 I loved Consumers too. It was fun to fill out that little order form and wait while they disappeared into the stockroom to pick out your item.
When I was a child in the 1960's, a fun activity was when we got a new Sears catalog. We would take turns poring over all the great stuff you could buy. We didn't buy much but you could dream over it. We mostly got a new set of school clothes in the fall at Sears and J.C. Penney. Your show always jogs some good memories.😊
I just cleaned off my desk too,and am finishing up my craft table next,I need some caffeine,I already decluttered all my closets and drawers, and the only thing in my basement is my washer and dryer,it makes it easier when I have to hopefully move soon,it was hard to let go of thing's,but less stuff my kids have to deal with when I'm gone.
He graciously didn't go there, but when he pointed out the mixer with a meat grinder, all I could think of was Uncle Joe's mint balls. It was disturbing.
It is so cool to watch your videos and learn so much from you! The lightning ball, the braces, (which my dad would call hand cranks) and so much more. I did know ALL about the sewing machines as I am a collector of those and you are right that Featherweight is the gold standard. But that hand-crank Egyptian style is so pretty! I love the wooden box someone made for it! The Sears catalogs were something my Mom made me shop from when I was a kid! It was just her thing she hated going to the store. LOL And now I shop online all the time. What a super awesome video! Thanks for all the hard work! Look forward to seeing what's in the trailer! Take care!
You should get yourself a tri-pod so you can look through boxes easier. I’m kinda obsessed with all the awesome old paper stuff you are finding!!! I’m a junk journaler and totally LOVING!! All the paper
Funny story on that Eaton's record player. My parents had one of those and used it for collateral for a bank loan in the late 60's, it was always a family joke.
Isn't it amazing that something that was made back in the 1940's and 50's still works just fine it's something that was bought less than a year ago might break in six months.
Planned obsolescence. If you make it too good, the customer won’t need to buy a replacement 😥. An older friend of mine had a dryer from the ‘60’s that stopped working and the repair man convinced her it was worth spending the money to repair it, as repaired it would last longer than any new dryer she could buy. And man was he right. I bought a new one a couple of years later for a new build house and it died while her repairs dryer was still chugging along just fine 😞
The first manual drill you pulled out (with the shaper) is for fence rails. You take a round log and then shape the end to a smaller diameter to fit inside the fence post.
The attachments on those braces are for making tenions. You'd use the cone cutter to start the tenion and the tenion cutter could be adjusted for different diameters and lengths . This was used in many chair builds and stair railings etc. I'll be definitely looking to bid on those tools
Thank you for another amazing video. The sewing machine is gorgeous. I like the little trinkets you find in the small unique boxes. I enjoy your G rated commentary.
The attachment on the end of the first Brace you showed is. ‘Tenon Cutter’. They are used to cut. Down square posts into round posts so you can attach them as legs to tables or make round fits for axe/hammer handles to go in the head slot.
For the hand cranked singer, look at the bobbin. if its cylindrical, look for ore of them. They are hard to find and are worth $$$. Even if the bobbin is round, it may not be the same size as modern ones. Keep an eye out for those.
I thought same thing about the horns, looked like they go on front of Boss Hogg's car! Those catalogs bring back memories. The Disney sing along vhs tapes might be worth selling in a bundle. many parents and grandparents still have vcrs for their kids to watch such things. that wire thing in with the bottles had a tag on it, wish you would have read what it said, curious what it was. great video, look forward to the next one.
That Singer was never a Treadle machine as it had a hand crank.. It would have been in a wooden carrying case with a domed lid and handle on the top... I have one..
Uncle Joe's Mint Balls are still sold in the UK. I bought my son a big jar last Christmas 😂 I love seeing you sort through old ephemera and linens. Obviously much of it is still collectable, but people also buy them for crafting - and some of those vintage pieces of ephemera, magazines and linens make beautiful handmade keepsake writing journals. Antique ephemera and books are especially useful as they're out of copyright so legally they can be scanned to use the copy in artwork, rather than damaging the original.
Alex the metal number plate on the singer can be looked up to give you the exact era the machine was made. It appears to be a shuttle model. Looking forward to seeing what is in the trailer.
Ever since seeing your videos spiffing up the Mazda Miata, I have started seeing them everywhere around Minneapolis, Minnesota! They seem to be the new Porsche 914 hereabouts.

The First Brace has an attachment for making Wheel Spokes or pointing Dowels. The blank is feed into the cutter ( or the cutter over the blank) like a mechanical pencil sharpener. Wheelwright’s use them.
Usually the attachments were ordered separately from a Mail Order Catalog. I sold such a cutter about a week ago and included a photo of a catalog page, showing a number of such tool attachments and what the sold for new, back in the day.

The wire thing in with the milk jugs is a carrier for the bottles. It works on the weight to hold it together, 99% shure.
That green Hudson Bay jewelry case/box looks like it might be commemorative with the way the 1670/1970 looks.
