  • AMDs latest Cooler selection really impressed me. From the Wraith Stealth to the Wraith Prism they look and feel premium. Let's hope intel catch up with this.

This was probably already mentioned but with the 3000 series AMD revised the spire to be a solid slab of aluminum without any copper at the base, they also had a different fan. As I understand the newer spire performance is similar but its fan spins quite a bit faster and is noticeably louder.

That’s actually a vapour chamber for the wraith spire coolers, not just a copper plate. If you remove the fan you can see the little nib where the chamber was sealed off. Unfortunately, it seems that they were discontinued after 1st gen ryzen in favour of a cheaper, all aluminium heat sink with a faster spinning fan.

I built an HTPC in the Silverstone Raven RVZ02. It's got a Ryzen 3 1200 using a Wraith Stealth cooler. No complaints here, I can't hear it over the tv wheN streaming a movie or playing a Blu-ray or DVD. Took an expensive case and shoved a lot of cheap used parts into it. A used Gigabyte B350 ITX board, 16 gb no-name/no head spreader ram, an old 512gb notebook drive, 128gb SSD, slot-loading bluray drive and a 500w SFX PSU from EVGA. I buiilt it several years ago, right after the 2xxx Ryzens came out and everyone was upgrading. I still use it, and it's doing the assigned job just fine.

I have a wraith stealth and i believe the fan spins faster than the other fans presented here with a max rpm of around 2500. I like the look of the wraith spire RGB and was wondering if that RGB shround can clip onto the Stealth's fan. Better still if i can theoretically screw the stealth's fan onto the the spires heat sync too. That would be the perfect cooling and RGB solution. Is it doable? Thanks.

When i had my Phenom ii 980 and over clocked i used to use a wraith max on that fitted lovely on the am3 socket and when i upgrade my pc i pulled the fan from my old build and put it on my ryzen 5 seems to do a good job, i like the max as I'm not a lover of the light up fan blades, the double halo and light up amd for me looks better, the only thing missing from the wraith max is the High and Low swith for fan speed like the prism has.

Thanks, very helpful. Although I'm using a noctual NH-U14S air cooler for my 5900x right now, (very quiet and cool as it was for my 3900x) I bought an inexpensive 5900x and swapped out my 3900x . I'm in the process of building a 3900x second system and will use the stock cooler in order to keep this second build very inexpensive. Thus the 3900x cpu will finally be used with the stock cooler that it came with a few years ago.

I have a Wraith Spire RGB because my first Ryzen CPU was an R7-1700 and first-gen R7 CPUs got the RGB ring. I also had a standard Wraith Spire that came with my R5-3600X but I traded it to my dad for his R9-3900X's Wraith Prism because he HATES RGB effects.
The Wraith Spire, to its credit works just fine on the 12-core R9-3900X and the Wraith Prism works perfectly fine on my R7-5800X3D.
I also have an old AM2+ cooler that came with my Phenom II X4 940 and it still works perfectly to this day. I call it "The Baby Wraith" because it looks like a scaled-down version of the original Wraith cooler which was essentially a Wraith MAX/Wraith Prism without any RGB. It handled that 125W Quad-Core just fine and did the same to my FX-8350 that came after it. I used it because the AM3/AM3+ coolers from AMD were TERRIBLE! They performed well enough but were too damn loud! The AM2+ cooler was much quieter and more refined. It does have a smaller fan but that fan has 9 sickle-shaped blades and it can move a crap-tonne of air!

The stealth or whatever it is with the 5600x (i think) is a waste of space. It seriously struggles on the intel dual core it's on now
Haven't got the wraith prism yet but what I really want to do is compare the prism against the stock cooler that came with the higher end am3 and am3+ cpus, a couple have a lot of copper and one has a .70amp fan and it's like 80mm ! Sounds like a jet engine but it will solo cool some gpus

I hate that 'clamping' system on the larger fans. Back in the old days the plastic mounting lugs would eventually give up and when you investigated the sudden high temps would find your cooler swinging in the breeze. But, the issue is if you need to replace a stock fan in any system the 'standard' used coolers are not that much cheaper than a used upgrade. I am happy to buy cpu coolers as I feel these tend to be replaced periodically by gamers. But its a brave man that buys a used CPU or Graphics card! In my opinion gamers will have overclocked the hell out of them and then attempt to unload them on an unsuspecting buyer!
