Hi Tina! What you said about jobs suddenly popping up so soon before school starts is soo true!!! Last year my best friend applied for a christian preschool teaching position, landed it, and then was laid off due to low student enrollment. Well fast forward to today a year later and the SAME SCHOOL called a few days ago and they want her back as a preschool teacher. This will be my friend's first year teaching. She will have her own classroom of kids AND be working full time there! She also only has a couple of days to get her room ready so your recent videos remind me of her so much!! Your portfolio was awesome!! Thanks for sharing and good luck!!!
As a student teacher, I envy your portfolio. Fantastic job! It shows that you are a effective teacher that you recognize that you can always improve something. I still think that you sell yourself in the best way possible, best of luck!
In my district, we have what's called "Transfair" in the spring. This is for current teachers in the district who want to change schools. The deadline to notify your principal that you are leaving is July 15. After that date, the principal has to officially release you in order for you to take another position.
I'm student teaching right now, expecting to graduate in January. I'm working on an electronic portfolio for my upcoming interviews. I've been told that it is great way to share information with interviewers. you can send it with resume and cover letter before the interview and also bring a tablet with you to the interview to share it. Just in case anyone was looking for alternatives. It works for me because I am not a scrap booking queen like Tina!
Tina... Kindergarten has change ! It is all about mastery.. My kinders count up to 100 and write to 100. They know over 100 sight words and leave reading ...they write 5 sentence paragraphs with details, topic sentence, conclusion, etc ... They know what nouns , verbs, pronouns and adjectives . Addition and subtraction and more ... We work hard and play hard everyday !
Good luck! I LOVE your portfolio! Thanks for the ideas. My portfolio is in a binder- boring! I am going to redo it- thank you for the inspiration! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good luck! I'm in the process in applying for jobs and it is very daunting to think about interviews. I am one of those who has a hard time bragging! I loved your portfolio. Thanks for sharing Tina!
Good luck Tina :) Your portfolio looks amazing, you are so kind to show us how you organized it and everything. I am sure it will help many teachers! And I know you want to change your room to Harry Potter, but I have to say I love the red and black decor you chose originally! It looks so bright and cheerful ;) love your vlogs!
Good luck Tina! Your portfolio looks good. It reminded me of the one I had put together like 15 years ago. It's somewhat similar to yours 😊 You are amazing!
Your portfolio looks awesome! I wish you the best of luck getting the new job and setting up. I am in my 4th week back at work (3rd week with students) and am completely tired already LOL... but I am motivated to do a sub tub!
Great Portfolio! Hope you got the job. Second grade will be fun. This will be my 12th year teaching first grade. I love it! Funny, I always thought Kinder teachers have it the hardest. I have no desire in ever teaching kindergarten. It's tough!
I hope your interview was successful and you are offered the position of teaching 2nd grade. I love your honesty about your portfolio ... I think it was very well organized and professional yet creative. Susie looks like she is a fun bestie. I knew I liked you from your blogs but when you mentioned your Catholic and I think your of polish descent I felt we have a connection. . I love pedogies (sp.) with sour cream-- yummy! Keeping fingers crossed for the job!!!
Hey Mrs. Bietler can you add in a video how soon you should be applying to jobs if it's your last year of college. My fear is that if I apply too soon I won't have enough stuff in my portfolio or on my resume to impress a school!! I don't student teach until next semester.
I graduated in 2014 and I was looking for jobs my last semester (during student teaching). This way, you can include some of your student teaching work in your portfolio as you do it.
Do you have to have a portfolio to get a teaching job? I am looking for my first teaching job, and I do not have a portfolio. I went to college for psychology and then obtained my teaching certification from an alternative teaching program.
I did. It didn't look like this one, though. I was more of an academic portfolio. It had my college stuff, my transcripts, my resume, certification, college awards like NHS, and then just three or four pictures from my student teaching.
You were employed at 19?! I'm currently an undergrad and I'm excepted to graduate at 22. But then I have an extra Masters year, so I won't be employed until 23! You must have entered college a lot earlier. I was a freshmen/sophomore at 19 :)
I have been working full time jobs since I was 13 years old. I was a paraprofessional (teacher's aid) the entire time I was in college. During the summer I worked full time waitressing jobs. I had scholarships to pay for about 70% of my tuition but I had to work to make up the missing 30% and pay for books and gas for the car and car insurance. I was poor growing up! My parents gave me free room and board the entire time I was a college student but they didn't pay one cent towards my tuition.
I have to kindly disagree with you about Kinder! Our kids are expected to do much more then know their abc's and write their name. We have kids coming in who have no schooling and don't know their letters and leave reading D or higher level books. It's a big push to read now in Kinder and it has changed A LOT! Kindergarten is the new 1st grade. Definitely not the same stuff we learned in kinder.
I guess it is different in different districts. About 60% of our Kindergarteners don't speak English...at all! So much of the year is spent on language acquisition, structure, routine, and just getting them to stop crying.
Tina, you are so wrong about kindergarten! Kindergarten is now what first grade used to be. Students are expected to read by the time they leave kindergarten! They go to first grade knowing how to read and write complete sentences. It must have been a while since you taught first grade because those expectations are now happening in kindergarten.
I agree. In kindergarten not only we need to introduce and prepare little kids to be students but also kindergarten teachers have to teach a very rigorous curriculum that includes teaching students how to read, write and justify their thinking behind their mathematical work.

3 things 1.If u move classrooms the hog warts decor will be more easy 2.Do you have to redo your open house packet 3.Last when your 1st day of school

Hello how old is a 1. grader in the US? ;-)Malene
why is you put all of that stuff in your class and your trying to get a new grade
