    Thank you! I am anticipating buying a cherry red 2003 Honda Shadow for my first motorcycle soon from someone I know. I have never ridden a motorcycle ever before. Thanks for the tips in this video.

    In Australia where i live we can't take motorcycle out of our yard to practice in car park unless we have a Unrestricted full Licence Person with us to Supervise us ! We can only go do Learners Course to get our Learner Licence ^ even then we can't ride on public roads unless we have person with unrestricted licence with us on his bike supervising ! We cant take our bike to car part to practice on our own by way of riding on public road ! unless we can load bike into / onto a trailer then drive car with trailer & bike to car park & practice! Do you only use the clutch to go from neutral to first and visa versa on bikes? Or do you have to use the clutch for up and down shifts like a car as well

      Every time you shift you should use the clutch

    You didn't show where the shifter was to put in neutral, remember we are going in cold.

    So when u down shift do you have to hold the clutch to?

    • @Brendan.bellino
      @Brendan.bellino ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question yea I always bring in the clutch when I down shit and right when I down shift I give it sole gas jus to make sure it dnt shut thee engine off or stall 😊

    • @Its_3055
      @Its_3055 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Essentially you have to rev match. Going from 3rd to 2nd for example, you clutch in, blip the throttle and downshift into 2nd and release the clutch same as in a car and as time goes with practice you'll get smoother with it.

    Quick question if your on 4 gear do you have to go down gears if your ready to stop or can you just put on neutral like cars ??

    • @Drive315
      @Drive315  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for watching and subscribe... you have to downshift to 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st, then you upshift slightly to get to neutral (i know it sounds like alot but once youre riding it will be natural) also typically if your bike is moving you never go into neutral get (you pull the clutch in to disengage the gears)

    • @Its_3055
      @Its_3055 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Drive315is it okay to downshift into 1st? I've got a manual mustang but you're not ever supposed to downshift into first gear unless you're going like 3 mph. Is this the same case for the shadow and motorcycles in general?

    You’re taking for granted that people wanting to learn how to ride, knows “bike gears”, and how to go from neutral to 1st.
    If this is a “how to”, assume your viewer knows nothing. 👍🏼

    I notice he is not wearing a proper riding jacket....let's see where this goes.
    At 0:50 you blew it !!
    Number one is: Can the person ride a bicycle?
    You need that balance skill first.
    Next you need to know how to stop a motorcycle before you get the ignition key.
    From Mark Wing From the Motorcycle Safety Foundation wrote on August 10 / 2015:
    Regarding your curiosity about the MSF Basic Rider Course skill sequence, proper brake operation, as well as engine-off experiences with brake application with the motorcycle in motion, do in fact precede applying power with the friction zone.
    (note: brake operation is taught first according to the MSF)
    With four decades of development history the MSF curriculum has been thoroughly vetted as a low-risk and effective training experience for novice riders.
    I appreciate your concern about the potential misinformation available on You Tube. Fortunately, there is an opportunity for viewers of TH-cam videos to make comments and point out inaccurate information.
    It has been MSF's stance that a person's best "first ride" is an MSF Basic Rider Course. There is no video substitute for hands-on training and the feedback a novice can receive from an experienced Rider Coach.
    Look here: www.humber.ca/motorcycle/ Canada's biggest motorcycle school and just as big as any new rider school in the United States with about 80 to 110 new riders every weekend.
    What is line 1? “Use one of our motorcycles on the “Learn to Ride”course. Learn how to balance, stop, move off under power,
    1) balance 2) → Stop ← 3) move off under power.
    Look here: www.humber.ca/motorcycle/courses/learn-ride-motorcycle-m1-m2
    Line 6: Starting with the fundamentals of braking, turning and shifting and progressively you’ll build up…
    See the word 'braking' is first again.
    Gearing Up: Motorcycle Training Program:
    www.ridertraining.org/gearing-up
    The Canada Safety Council Motorcycle Training Program has been in operation since 1974. It is offered through a national network of provincial and local organizations, and is the only program recognized by the motorcycle industry, federal and provincial governments, insurers and private organizations across Canada.
    Gearing Up - What you'll learn
    ridertraining.org/gearing-up/what-you-will-learn
    Students are taken from basic skills such as balancing the motorcycle, through correct use of brakes, proper procedures for starting a motorcycle to use of the clutch ….
    Notice that braking comes first.
    Here is another motorcycle safety school:
    www.ridertraining.ca/courses/riding_basics/
    “The First Day
    Everyone begins at the same level, learning to walk the motorcycle and getting used to the feel of maneuvering a motorcycle around. Balance, brakes and looking ahead are learned on an unpowered moving motorcycle. There’s a bit of pushing involved here.”
    www.motorcycle.com/rider-safety/motorcycle-beginner-rider-training-91039.html
    “The first few exercises involved a lot of pushing as we took turns “riding” while other students pushed us along. Under human-powered propulsion, we practiced balancing on the bikes and making low-speed turns. Just as we started to get tired of all the pushing, it was finally time to get the motors running and start riding for real.”
    (balance first with no engine)
    These TH-cam videos titled “teach a new person how to ride a motorcycle” should really be:
    “Let me teach you how to stop a motorcycle” Video.
    That would be the nicest thing you could do for your friend second to sending them to a certified motorcycle training school.
    Motorcycles are for fun 99.5% of the time. It is no fun if your new rider runs into something.
    There is nothing worse than an amateur unqualified motorcycle 'instructor'
