  • This week on Vol Club Confidential, Tennessee Baseball’s Head Coach, Tony Vitello steps up to the plate to unpack what it takes to make it to the big leagues. With personal experience playing for the Missouri Tigers, coaching minor league and college ball, and recruiting, he offers a unique perspective on the sport and the impact the roster has on the season’s outcome. Tony reveals the key players and coaches who influenced his passion for the sport and coaching style. Having led multiple teams to record-breaking seasons and players to the MLB, he shares what factors will make or break an athlete and their team. Tony reveals his favorite Tennessee traditions, how he feels about Coach Heupel’s journey compared to his, and what about the SEC makes him uncomfortable.

We need to hold on to this coach. He has that rare mix of family background, personal experience, knowledge of what players talk about, and personal charisma. So well spoken that he can do interviews and win over people, attend corporate meetings and get backing, plus lead a bunch of egos into a cohesive team. Impressive young man. ( UTK '67)

I love Tony V! He is so charismatic and likable, and he could easily make a lot of money public speaking when he hangs up his coaching hat.

We need to give him a lifetime contract and keep him at all cost he will win nattys he will no doubt.

Being a young baseball player in the 1970's one of my favorite baseball players was Pete rose. I loved sliding head first into 2 nd or 3 rd base just like Pete did in many MLB games. He was Mr hustle on the diamond.

Man!!! That was a heckua of an interview! Austin did an excellent job with the questions and Tony V is so intriguing. I agree that the decade (time between) 1995-2005 everyone (all sports teams) were helping each other on Rocky Top. It feels that way now as well! GB🍊

Really really like this new program. I love all things orange. Now I have another great reason to feel great about UT Baseball. I hope Coach Vitello is for UT Baseball what Coach Pat was for the Lady Vols, a legendary lifer! I believe he has “It”. GBO!!!

I don't like baseball as a sport but I really like Tony V as a human and the villainous persona he's brought to the baseball team and the University in general
