Hey Sawyer, I started watching your One Piece reviews almost 10 years ago, then in these last couple of years I took a break from the OP fandom and from watching your channel but I just had to come back for this chapter. Love to see that your chapter reviews are as great as ever. With chapters like these it's like my enthusiasm and love for One Piece never went away
Honestly Luffy’s powers only being limited by his imagination is a scary thought for his foes. This is the same dude who created gear second by watching CP9 and Gear 4 to fight giant beasts. His potential is insane

It was obvious once the fruit's gear four powers were all animal based that something was up. The power fits very well. Issue is the government not being competent in capturing the kid.
Considering we almost got acme level explosions with the armory. At this point, I'm convinced Kaido gets knock down on the ground and Onigashima dropping on top of him; essentially a big anvil drop.
People are in such denial right now. This takes everything away from his efforts so far. He's not just some boy that wanted to be free and have friends with a weak power that he used creatively, anymore. He's now yet another "destined chosen one", with the most powerful fruit. It's so stupid. I'm extremely disappointed. It even played out just like Naruto. He "dies" and then his chosen one power awakens. Such terrible writing. All that build up for this...
I can see it now, as the shadow of the falling Onigashima completely engulfs Kaido, he calmly looks up to the sky and in his final moment holds up a sign that reads "YIKES!"
@@Phatnaru0002 It is very cliché. Next DBS will rewrite Goku's lineage so instead of coming from a family of grunts he's descended from some ancient Saiyan lineage more important than Vegeta's. I didn't even think about it as I was reading it, but yea, the whole "chosen one god mode" meme is kinda a let down. Still love One Piece, it'll be interesting to see how this effects the rest of the story. Like Sawyer said, what is Akainu gonna do? Hotter lava? Vs a "god" fruit? More "god" fruits. Im probably has another "god" fruit.
@@jackd3808 It's not just that. We should have figured, because he's been doing that with all the characters. Sanji being descendant from nobles, Zoro's family being legendary samurai. Now Luffy had a literal god inside of him, which was the source of his will, his ability to inspire people, and and even his creative attacks. He's lost all of his agency. He's not relatable anymore. No joke. This has ruined One Piece for me. The only way Oda can redeem it now is if Luffy chooses to reject this power and be his own person in the final conflicts, and even then, that'd just be a decent way to end it. This ruins all the build up. If people continue to defend One Piece after this, then they owe Fairy Tail an apology. At least Natsu's BS power-ups came from his own personality, and wasn't because he was a god the whole time.
the idea of DFs having will and sort of choosing their wielder is cool when you think about Sabo inheriting Ace's fruit, it's like the fruit wanted to honour Ace as well.

Back in ennies lobby, it was reasoned that people could not eat 2 devils fruits, because the devils inside would destroy the body. And when Blackbeard, got his second fruit it was said that 'only he could do that' maybe it has something to do with vacating the inherent will of all devils fruits. Just ones have a stronger will than the others

I’m so glad that it happened to be the just a title/awakening like I mentioned in my comment for the last chapter! The chapter is actually ALL about freedom, which I love. Luffy keeps his freedoms by not being a reincarnation, and the awakening actually gives him even more freedom with his fruit lol.
@@pvnchos1478 Right? But it happens that way often, a bomb drops that makes everyone think that the story is going to go one way, and premature assumptions happen. Then he goes in a completely different direction that makes sense. The premature opinions are what makes the community toxic in some ways, but awesome in others lol.

@@pvnchos1478 Yeah, I’m a bit older but I feel the same. One Piece is definitely something that I love more than anything else, because of the story and lore for sure. It’s a story that can surprise even someone that has been following since the start 25 years ago, and that says a lot about Oda as a mangaka and story teller.

I have a theory that Gear 5th requires a lot of Conqueror's Haki. Notice Conqueror's Haki comes pouring out of Luffy. Conqueror's Haki also is the exertion of will---I feel like C.H. is used for Luffy to exert the will of his fruit (the rubbery cartoon effects like Kaido's eyes or the ground). My guess is that his drawback will be him being unable to use Conqueror's Haki for a while and maybe he also won't be able to use his rubber powers for a while.

After reading chapter 1044 I've been thinking a lot about what I call the Tragedy of Kaido. We know Kaido has been on a quest to find the Hito Hito no MI, model: Nika. He presumably donated his own cells to Vegapunk so he could recreate the fruit, resulting on Momonosuke’s SMILE fruit and subsequently all other SMILEs; he was also disappointed when he threw Luffy out to the sea exclaiming “You couldn’t be Joy Boy either… it seems”. When Luffy came back he got his hope back again but after the CP0 agent interfered he was filled in desperation so he tried a last attempt, knowing Nika is a god to slaves (as described by Who’s Who) he started his rant about slaving every person in Wano, which finally worked as the last drop that made the fruit awaken. So why is Kaido so keen on bringing back Joy Boy? Because he has been battling depression for decades now, to the point of being suicidal, trapped in a body incapable of dying he has lost all hope of feeling better so he drinks all the time in order to numb down his feelings. But then, some time ago, he found about Joy Boy: the one capable of putting a smile on everyone, not a fake smile like the ones from artificial fruits, but a true Joyful smile. That’s why on this chapter, when the Hito Hito no MI, model: Nika awakens and Luffy actually becomes the new Joy Boy, Kaido, finally, smiles.
Going back to the Skypiea arc is crazy now, we had a self entitled God against an actual God and so much of the story was teased all the way back then.
Idk, Teach could be a Cerberus mythical zoan. It would make sense when he is able to have 3 devil fruits. And in the legends the cerberus is often bypassed by lulling it to sleep. Perhaps it never sleeps.
After that chapter I'm more considering Blackbeard to originally have another human human type god fruit that can handle more than one DF. Never made sense for me that he had another animal zoan like octopus or cerberus since his strange body was noticed when he was in his human form.
Ya that what exactly I think because zoan fruit change user body and as Marco said teach has different body from every human being that why he's able to eat 2 fruit but macro is a doctor he know and have experience about zoan users body mean if teach eated zoan fruit he won't be able to hide it from macro that theory isn't possible
Yall think Rayleigh already 100% knew what was up when he agreed to train Luffy or was it just a happy coincidence? Like, I'm sure he knew Luffy was the one who would reach Laugh Tale, but now I wonder if that's because he knew what the Gumo-Gumo no Mi really was or if he just liked the cut of Luffy's jib.
@@Gurbingoinon Yeah I think this is the right answer, because he literally learned all about Joyboy from his writings on Laugh Tale I bet it was easy for him to see what Luffy had was the same as Joyboy, even if it wasn't spelled out for him which it might have been too. Good observation
To think that Luffy was already fighting Kaido 1v1 for quite a long amount of time and fought him on almost equal level. Now imagine what can a Gear 5th Luffy can do. Oda said he doesn't know how Luffy will defeat Kaido but he was preparing for this moment the entire time.
@@firstorder438 Kaido tanking Conqueror's infused King Kong Gun, transforming in Hybrid so fast and hitting Luffy with Roaring Thunder Bagua shows it. There's still a gap in there power at that time.
Sanji is the first person to react because judge’s experiments tried to create Nika. Notice the swirls luffy has in gear fifth? That’s why he reacted first, that’s why the both have fire power. The only reason Sanji can use flames and his brothers can’t is because Judge misinterpreted the difference between freedom and the freedom you receive from a lack of emotions
Luffy = God /Robin = Read Ponegliphs Franky = Builds pluton(anything)/ Jimbei = Former Warlord. BROOK = possessing people using souls power. God Ussop = Lies coming to Fruition/ Nami = Navigator that's OP and can Draw anything. Sanji= Andriod Prince Zoro = Cant Die (king of hell) Chopper= genius doctor Yamato(potential strawhat) = Oden and Kaido. Straw hats are broken...😂
Remember after the crew left Alabasta the narrator mentioned a scientist called Willie Gallon who said anything than can be imagined can become real I believe he could be a user of the Nika fruit before Luffy or had the fruit in his hands and conducted experiments on it

I think gear fifth might actually have the smallest downside of them all. From what we can tell Paramecia fruits didnt have any drawbacks for using their awakening, but the Zoan fruits usually put the user into a more berserk state so I think the Zoan side of luffys fruit will be the drawback.
If Luffy's devil fruit has been a mythical zoan this entire time, it makes me wonder if Blackbeards Yami Yami no mi is actually not the true name of the fruit, and that it'll be revealed later that it's actually a mythical zoan that can control darkness, a moon god of some sort.
Teach aka Blackbeard i thinks knows something about his own devil fruit that no other people knows that's why he is particularly looking for that fruit for a long time. The fact that his power can cancel & nullify all other devil fruit user's power is already a big disadvantage to all yet his awakening might prove more disadvantage to whoever fights him. Luckily Luffy has overcomed seastone weakening him (but with power still cancelled) he can use haki even when shackled with seastone
@@zon614 When did he use Haki while shackled with Kairouseki? Because in Udon prison he said that he couldn't use Haki while shackled. During the Sumou Inferno match, Queen took off the Kairouseki handcuffs and then put on an steel explosive collar around his neck to make the match fair and entertaining.

Seastone only cancels devil fruit powers but it never mentioned in anime or manga that it cancels haki. Only Luffy & Kid showed to overcome the weakening effect of being shackled in seastone during their time doing hard labor in prison

The WG destroys entire nations based on the knowledge they have, including trying to kill children that might pose a threat in the future like Robin or Ace. Remember how may babys died in Ace's place? i just don't buy this passitivy in dealing with what is probably the most dangerous devil fruit in existence for the WG regime.

@@dresdenwinterknight9553- they didn’t believe the legend because it’s been 800 years since it’s been awakened so why did they have to worried about a rookie pirates. They were probably betting on the yonkos to deal with Luffy but soon evidence came to light so they jumped and tried to intervene in the chance did have the fruit.

Man i just wanna say i love you. Like even though i am having a tough time in life watching luffy go through a hard times makes it bearable. And the chapter is never completed without your reviews.
Here is a thought: The story goes that when someone eats 2 different fruits the user dies so there must be someone in the past who tried it, obviously.. We know the fruit resurrect when the user dies. What if the both fruits morph into one and evolving into something different like these users that have more than one type Sawyer speaks of, and the gomu gomu aka nika fruit is the result of one of those.

Mythical zoan fruits seem to have secondary powers that are incredible, and could seem to be paramecia powers. Kaido is a dragon, but his normal non transformed flesh seems just as tough as dragon scales, it could be that his fruit has a side benefit of always being so tough that it's made him impossible to execute. If someone didn't ever transform, people would think they had a fruit that just hardened the flesh. Marcos body can use his flames to regenerate when he's completely human in form. If he never transformed people would think his devil fruit power was just a healing or regeneration fruit. Luffy has always been rubber, but now that his fruit is awakened, who knows what other powers the fruit can give him, or if he's in his hybrid or full transformation now. But they both got other powers as well, Kaido can create clouds and has a blast breath and can transform, Marco has strange partial hybrid transformations, and he can also use his flames to both heal and attack others, even in human form. It's possible multiple paramecia or logia fruits are actually mythical zoan types, maybe even Uranus could be the hidden name of a devil fruit we already know.
@@kokofan50 Some mythical zoans seem to change the body the way a paramecia does, I'm ways that can't be turned off without the use of seastone. In fact, if they didn't transform, most people would just assume they were paramecia fruits. Marco heals any damage, and he has all the zoan benefits from transforming, and he can use his flames to both heal and attack others. Kaido is almost invulnerable, and he has all the zoan benefits from being a dragon, and he can create clouds to both fly and lift islands, Luffy is rubber and he can transform into a god and apparently turn his environment into a cartoon. Each mythical fruit seems to have at least 3 different powers
there still inconsistency here.... 1.if luffy need to awaken his fruit to reveal the fruits true nature, the same also with marco.the phoenix form is his awakening.. maybe this awakening can only be applied for mythical type BUT 2. luffy did use his rubber powers(secondary power so to say) to change the ground..like katakuri and doffy but this is a paramecia awakening..so luffy can use awakening on top of another awakening? 3. normal zoan awakening known to be increase durability and recovery,shown by the impel down guards... totally different to mythical type need more explainations...oda could clarify further in the series... 🤷
@@fadefaker It depends really, if Nika has the powers to turn his surroundings into rubber, then that could just be a power of the transformation. Or maybe each mythical zoan gets an extra power that acts like a paramecia awakening, like maybe blue flames for Marco and clouds for Kaido? In impel down we only saw like normal animal zoan fruits awaken, none were very special at all, no carnivorous zoans, no flying zoans, no ancient zoans, definitely no mythical. We don't even know the race that the guards were originally or if they were objects that gained sentience. The impel down guards are so different from Luffy and Kaido that I don't think they can be used for a good comparison, most zoan users only receive a physician capability boost so an awakening giving a larger boost makes sense, but mythical zoans all seem to have a paramecia power or two added onto the animal forms, so maybe their awakenings are like a two or three for one?
jus to name random fruits that are strange and could be looked at deeper… All I know is Blackbeard has properties like that, Mr 5 does right the wax fruit is paramecia, choppers fruit is strange, it’s a human human fruit so it could be the name of a god… maybe Nico Robins fruit, peronas ghost fruit would be cool, oda can really do a lot with Mythical Zoans, he’s fr a genius. see someone like Trafaulgars fruit is obviously not a mythical zoan, bevause his body doesn’t have any side effects. I like the way that now that Luffy’s fruit is a mythical zoan. It explains a lot of Luffy’s battles and his crazy endurance. Also a lot of people says that Luffy couldn’t do his “rubber” abilities if his not transformed, which that doesn’t make sense. Since we already have some examples of zoan users that use their “abilities” in their base form 1. Chopper his always “human smart” even if he isn’t transformed 2. Orochi had his head cut in his base form and survived because of this devil fruit powers
Well, if I am supposed to think that Luffy's abilities was made to question me, what is with Zoro's Asura ability that still isn't really revealed how that worked? Or what about all these abilities that the CP9 showed back in Enies Lobby as well? Like Geppou? How does that work? If you start to say that ONE strange thing was on purpose that means that every strange thing that ever happened stops just being for fun or action, you now get into the problem where you have to explain everything.
@@Modie that’s true, but also in this arc we got some answers of things that we thought were made just for fun (Or mere power ups) like Sanji’s fire leg. So probably Oda is going to explain more of this kind things in future events
Idk how I feel about all this, the power up is a little abstract and intense for what was shown in this chapter and then the implications. I can only hope that the next few chapters really make clear oda's intention for how luffy will use this power for the story, not who he will beat with it.
This is where I have been with my reasoning. I know the fandom gets extremely hyped with chapters like this and it's amazing to discuss it but I also believe people jump to way too many conclusions without any real and substantiated evidence backing their view(s). This chapter was packed with information and reveals but we still need to continue reading the story so plot holes and potential story deviations can be understood or dismissed. I'm personally mega hyped by the chapter and I'm keeping my skepticism in place until this new story direction is fleshed out by Oda.
@@dresdenwinterknight9553 LOL! Right? There will obviously be limitations. I mean, look at Kid and Law, they could barely use their awakened moves without taxing themselves to the limit. HOWEVER, luffy's awakening seems to be fundamentally different. This is how I took it, the power is only limited by the users imagination BUT it also has to be within the limits of what rubber can do. For example, luffy can probably do gear 4th legs to fly and gear second arms etc. He can essentially incorporate any gear instantly without transforming and likely use them simultaneously or in tandem effortlessly. He can also clearly use his environment (which has been established long ago in regards to awakening).
@@dresdenwinterknight9553 it’s not that hard to understand. It’s literally been explained during his fight with katakuri. Katakuri was literally teaching him the potential of his fruit when he eventually awakens. But manipulating his environment and molding his body into different shapes. The limitations aren’t endless, everything still has to fall within the realm of rubber. Like he’s not going to have this stupid toon force reality warping bullshit that everyone’s saying. That would make no sense at all. Like he can’t just make gun arms out of rubber that wouldn’t work for obvious reasons. Although he’ll be able to make swords, hammers, battle axes out of his limbs. He’ll be able to turn his entire body into objects. He’ll be able to turn his environment into rubber the same way Katakuri was able to turn his environment into mochi. This has all been explained to us before. It shouldn’t be confusing.

This chapter changes everything. btw I hope everyone knows that "Nika" means "grin" in japanese, to smirk or to smile. If we actually read back on it you'd really see that there was no real chance for WG to fully commit to Luffy and take him out when he was a rookie while being indiscrete about it since they want it a secret, and even when they did go all out (Like marineford) they always failed. It was only now that they moved all in after seeing Zunesha in action.

To me it seems more of a “The Mask” type of powers, very cartooney yet super OP because he basically is a god and can do anything he likes, while always having fun
My surprise is that we went from a protagonist with a goofy power that was there by his merits to someone with op hidden power that just need it to awaken it. It pretty much ruins the character and nobody cares.

If Teach gets a Mythical Zoan devil fruit, I wonder if it will be “Behemoth” as there are some depictions of the creature as a Hippopotamus, given your theory.
I wonder why Luffy, Law and Tama have the only devil fruits that have side effects from excessive use. Luffy is the only zoan who's transformations ALL have side effects; Law's "room" taxes him pretty heavily, and Tama gets drained by making numerous kibi dangos.
I didn't realize Sanji's kick is blue that makes it so much more amazing! Also in the cover you can see Zoro's conqueror's haki coming off of the blade is a greenish wisp. I like Oda driving into these colors. More blue for Sanji, more green for Zoro and with this chapter even more red for Luffy. Monster trio are too hype right now

I don’t each fruit chooses it’s user I think the only picking part may be to fully awaken the fruits true power because anyone can eat a fruit some are even awarded like to people like with CP9 and we’ve never seen a case where a fruit rejects it’s eater. Same with the swords anyone can use one but not all can handle them to their full potential.
This chapter really crazy and reveal alot. It had me and my bro thinking, he said what if the thing Roger n the crew was laughing was this on a ponegliff (I'm rubber you're glue whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you) because of the joy, happiness and freedom it bring to people by the user of that devil fruit! Idk.🤷🏿♂️
Out of all the reviews I watched of this chapter not one person was able to shed light on why the fire shadow attacked orochi. Huge respect to you Sawyer for the review, much thanks. Good review.
theory: rubery bodies and the ability to control fire, i think nika in life was a lunarian, his soul got put inside a devil fruit or something, and now luffy can do what nika could do. maybe judge actually tried to replicate lunarian physiology and thats why most vinsmokes can manifest "fire" (light, electricity and fire with sanji) their rubery bodies instead changed to be metalic and their eyebrows are similar to luffy's in gear 5. maybe sora was a distant descendant of lunarians hence why judge decided to have her birth his kids, it definetly wasnt love xD
I agree. I always wondered how no one thought twice about Luffy using Red Hawk just because he can lol. I know Sanji can also use fire but that’s something that I always questioned as well. Oda is generally surgically precise with his decisions to show major characteristics or attacks. So we’ll see
I love one piece, I think is one of the greatest manga of all time. But idk how I feel about luffy having this OP devil fruit. I used to like Luffy because it was so silly and he made it cool. I mean didn’t something like this happen in Naruto and Sasuke being decedents and people were upset.
Yes. It depends on how much more he can do with this. So far what we've seen is not more than one would imagine of the Gomu Gomu awakening. But if it becomes too extra it will feel bullshit.

He was always free to say what he wanted to say and do what he wanted to do, nothing about that was written in stone. The only thing destiny did was write down the potential of fulfilling a prophecy when Luffy ate the fruit. It could've very easily been a failure if he lost his way in the journey and stopped defending freedom wherever he went.

@@elsol1176 I get what you're saying, this is obviously a story written by an author who wants his protagonist to fulfill the prophecy. In that regard their shouldn't even be a discussion about freedom cause all is decided by one person. But for me, in reality at least, freedom is decided at the level of your day to day life, the present, what you're choosing to do right now regardless of what the world has in store for you at the end. Here, Oda made it so Luffy doesn't even know that a prophecy exists. So what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter if it's "riddled with prophecy and destiny", freedom operates outside of these things. Nothing contradictory here.

These aren’t prophecy this is promise that has been unfulfilled. Luffy carries the will of those who loved freedom Joyboy, Roger and Ace are the people that and this fruit gives him more power to that freedom.
So Teach has been searching for the most powerful devil fruits. He got the most powerful Logia (Yami-Yami no Mi), the most powerful Paramecia (Gura-Gura no Mi). He sensed Luffy as holding the most powerful Zoan. What if when he finally confronted Luffy by the end, he tries to steal Luffy's devil fruit, but fails due to Hito-Hito no Mi, model: Nika having a will of it's own.

I think He wont be able to use his rubber abilities for a bit when the gear five ends, I find it logical, luffy with rubber abilities is its hybrid form, gear five is its fully transformed form that includes that he has a normal human form that is compelitly normal, and when gear 5 (fully transformed form) ends he's gonna be in his human form

Considering we almost got acme level explosions with the armory. At this point, I'm convinced Kaido gets knock down on the ground and Onigashima dropping on top of him; essentially a big anvil drop.
Or Luffy will paint a tunnel on a wall, run through it, and when Kaido follows him he slams into the solid wall.

@@jackd3808 It's not just that. We should have figured, because he's been doing that with all the characters. Sanji being descendant from nobles, Zoro's family being legendary samurai. Now Luffy had a literal god inside of him, which was the source of his will, his ability to inspire people, and and even his creative attacks. He's lost all of his agency. He's not relatable anymore.
No joke. This has ruined One Piece for me. The only way Oda can redeem it now is if Luffy chooses to reject this power and be his own person in the final conflicts, and even then, that'd just be a decent way to end it. This ruins all the build up.
If people continue to defend One Piece after this, then they owe Fairy Tail an apology. At least Natsu's BS power-ups came from his own personality, and wasn't because he was a god the whole time.
the idea of DFs having will and sort of choosing their wielder is cool when you think about Sabo inheriting Ace's fruit, it's like the fruit wanted to honour Ace as well.

Back in ennies lobby, it was reasoned that people could not eat 2 devils fruits, because the devils inside would destroy the body. And when Blackbeard, got his second fruit it was said that 'only he could do that' maybe it has something to do with vacating the inherent will of all devils fruits. I’m so glad that it happened to be the just a title/awakening like I mentioned in my comment for the last chapter! The chapter is actually ALL about freedom, which I love. Luffy keeps his freedoms by not being a reincarnation, and the awakening actually gives him even more freedom with his fruit lol.

I have a theory that Gear 5th requires a lot of Conqueror's Haki. Notice Conqueror's Haki comes pouring out of Luffy. Conqueror's Haki also is the exertion of will---I feel like C.H. is used for Luffy to exert the will of his fruit (the rubbery cartoon effects like Kaido's eyes or the ground). My guess is that his drawback will be him being unable to use Conqueror's Haki for a while and maybe he also won't be able to use his rubber powers for a while.

After reading chapter 1044 I've been thinking a lot about what I call the Tragedy of Kaido.
We know Kaido has been on a quest to find the Hito Hito no MI, model: Nika. He presumably donated his own cells to Vegapunk so he could recreate the fruit, resulting on Momonosuke’s SMILE fruit and subsequently all other SMILEs; he was also disappointed when he threw Luffy out to the sea exclaiming “You couldn’t be Joy Boy either… it seems”. When Luffy came back he got his hope back again but after the CP0 agent interfered he was filled in desperation so he tried a last attempt, knowing Nika is a god to slaves (as described by Who’s Who) he started his rant about slaving every person in Wano, which finally worked as the last drop that made the fruit awaken.
So why is Kaido so keen on bringing back Joy Boy? Because he has been battling depression for decades now, to the point of being suicidal, trapped in a body incapable of dying he has lost all hope of feeling better so he drinks all the time in order to numb down his feelings. But then, some time ago, he found about Joy Boy: the one capable of putting a smile on everyone, not a fake smile like the ones from artificial fruits, but a true Joyful smile. That’s why on this chapter, when the Hito Hito no MI, model: Nika awakens and Luffy actually becomes the new Joy Boy, Kaido, finally, smiles.
Going back to the Skypiea arc is crazy now, we had a self entitled God against an actual God and so much of the story was teased all the way back then.

Idk, Teach could be a Cerberus mythical zoan. It would make sense when he is able to have 3 devil fruits. And in the legends the cerberus is often bypassed by lulling it to sleep. Perhaps it never sleeps.
After that chapter I'm more considering Blackbeard to originally have another human human type god fruit that can handle more than one DF. Never made sense for me that he had another animal zoan like octopus or cerberus since his strange body was noticed when he was in his human form.
I think teach has mythical zoan hito hito no mi model ashura that way he can eat two more devil fruits with each of the other mouths of ashura.

Sanji is the first person to react because judge’s experiments tried to create Nika. Notice the swirls luffy has in gear fifth? That’s why he reacted first, that’s why the both have fire power. The only reason Sanji can use flames and his brothers can’t is because Judge misinterpreted the difference between freedom and the freedom you receive from a lack of emotions

I think gear fifth might actually have the smallest downside of them all. From what we can tell Paramecia fruits didnt have any drawbacks for using their awakening, but the Zoan fruits usually put the user into a more berserk state so I think the Zoan side of luffys fruit will be the drawback.

If Luffy's devil fruit has been a mythical zoan this entire time, it makes me wonder if Blackbeards Yami Yami no mi is actually not the true name of the fruit, and that it'll be revealed later that it's actually a mythical zoan that can control darkness, a moon god of some sort.
Teach aka Blackbeard i thinks knows something about his own devil fruit that no other people knows that's why he is particularly looking for that fruit for a long time. The fact that his power can cancel & nullify all other devil fruit user's power is already a big disadvantage to all yet his awakening might prove more disadvantage to whoever fights him. Luckily Luffy has overcomed seastone weakening him (but with power still cancelled) he can use haki even when shackled with seastone
@@zon614 When did he use Haki while shackled with Kairouseki? Because in Udon prison he said that he couldn't use Haki while shackled. During the Sumou Inferno match, Queen took off the Kairouseki handcuffs and then put on an steel explosive collar around his neck to make the match fair and entertaining.

Man i just wanna say i love you. Like even though i am having a tough time in life watching luffy go through a hard times makes it bearable. And the chapter is never completed without your reviews.
Here is a thought: The story goes that when someone eats 2 different fruits the user dies so there must be someone in the past who tried it, obviously.. We know the fruit resurrect when the user dies. What if the both fruits morph into one and evolving into something different like these users that have more than one type Sawyer speaks of, and the gomu gomu aka nika fruit is the result of one of those.

Mythical zoan fruits seem to have secondary powers that are incredible, and could seem to be paramecia powers.
Kaido is a dragon, but his normal non transformed flesh seems just as tough as dragon scales, it could be that his fruit has a side benefit of always being so tough that it's made him impossible to execute. If someone didn't ever transform, people would think they had a fruit that just hardened the flesh.
Marcos body can use his flames to regenerate when he's completely human in form. If he never transformed people would think his devil fruit power was just a healing or regeneration fruit.
Luffy has always been rubber, but now that his fruit is awakened, who knows what other powers the fruit can give him, or if he's in his hybrid or full transformation now.
But they both got other powers as well, Kaido can create clouds and has a blast breath and can transform, Marco has strange partial hybrid transformations, and he can also use his flames to both heal and attack others, even in human form.
It's possible multiple paramecia or logia fruits are actually mythical zoan types, maybe even Uranus could be the hidden name of a devil fruit we already know.
I wouldn’t call it a secondary power. It’s just being able to use the powers of the mythical animal/god
@@kokofan50 Some mythical zoans seem to change the body the way a paramecia does, I'm ways that can't be turned off without the use of seastone. In fact, if they didn't transform, most people would just assume they were paramecia fruits. Marco heals any damage, and he has all the zoan benefits from transforming, and he can use his flames to both heal and attack others. Kaido is almost invulnerable, and he has all the zoan benefits from being a dragon, and he can create clouds to both fly and lift islands, Luffy is rubber and he can transform into a god and apparently turn his environment into a cartoon. Each mythical fruit seems to have at least 3 different powers
there still inconsistency here....
1.if luffy need to awaken his fruit to reveal the fruits true nature, the same also with marco.the phoenix form is his awakening.. maybe this awakening can only be applied for mythical type BUT
2. luffy did use his rubber powers(secondary power so to say) to change the ground..like katakuri and doffy but this is a paramecia awakening..so luffy can use awakening on top of another awakening?
3. normal zoan awakening known to be increase durability and recovery,shown by the impel down guards... totally different to mythical type
need more explainations...oda could clarify further in the series... 🤷
@@fadefaker It depends really, if Nika has the powers to turn his surroundings into rubber, then that could just be a power of the transformation. Or maybe each mythical zoan gets an extra power that acts like a paramecia awakening, like maybe blue flames for Marco and clouds for Kaido?
In impel down we only saw like normal animal zoan fruits awaken, none were very special at all, no carnivorous zoans, no flying zoans, no ancient zoans, definitely no mythical. We don't even know the race that the guards were originally or if they were objects that gained sentience. The impel down guards are so different from Luffy and Kaido that I don't think they can be used for a good comparison, most zoan users only receive a physician capability boost so an awakening giving a larger boost makes sense, but mythical zoans all seem to have a paramecia power or two added onto the animal forms, so maybe their awakenings are like a two or three for one?

All I know is Blackbeard has properties like that, Mr 5 does right the wax fruit is paramecia, choppers fruit is strange, it’s a human human fruit so it could be the name of a god… maybe Nico Robins fruit, peronas ghost fruit would be cool, oda can really do a lot with Mythical Zoans, he’s fr a genius. see someone like Trafaulgars fruit is obviously not a mythical zoan, bevause his body doesn’t have any side effects. Even shiryu could be a mythical zoan human human fruit god model, lmfaoooo 😂imagine he could make his crew mates invisible n other shit if he awakened, lol. Hawkins maybe, he could go in a lot of directions. this is why oda made one piece the way it is, his imagination can take him anywhere he wants to go!

I like the way that now that Luffy’s fruit is a mythical zoan. It explains a lot of Luffy’s battles and his crazy endurance.
Also a lot of people says that Luffy couldn’t do his “rubber” abilities if his not transformed, which that doesn’t make sense. Since we already have some examples of zoan users that use their “abilities” in their base form
1. Chopper his always “human smart” even if he isn’t transformed
2. Orochi had his head cut in his base form and survived because of this devil fruit powers

Well, if I am supposed to think that Luffy's abilities was made to question me, what is with Zoro's Asura ability that still isn't really revealed how that worked? Or what about all these abilities that the CP9 showed back in Enies Lobby as well? Like Geppou? How does that work? If you start to say that ONE strange thing was on purpose that means that every strange thing that ever happened stops just being for fun or action, you now get into the problem where you have to explain everything.
@@Modie that’s true, but also in this arc we got some answers of things that we thought were made just for fun (Or mere power ups) like Sanji’s fire leg. So probably Oda is going to explain more of this kind things in future events

Idk how I feel about all this, the power up is a little abstract and intense for what was shown in this chapter and then the implications. I can only hope that the next few chapters really make clear oda's intention for how luffy will use this power for the story, not who he will beat with it.
This is where I have been with my reasoning. I know the fandom gets extremely hyped with chapters like this and it's amazing to discuss it but I also believe people jump to way too many conclusions without any real and substantiated evidence backing their view(s). This chapter was packed with information and reveals but we still need to continue reading the story so plot holes and potential story deviations can be understood or dismissed. I'm personally mega hyped by the chapter and I'm keeping my skepticism in place until this new story direction is fleshed out by Oda.

@@dresdenwinterknight9553 LOL! Right? There will obviously be limitations. I mean, look at Kid and Law, they could barely use their awakened moves without taxing themselves to the limit. HOWEVER, luffy's awakening seems to be fundamentally different. This is how I took it, the power is only limited by the users imagination BUT it also has to be within the limits of what rubber can do. For example, luffy can probably do gear 4th legs to fly and gear second arms etc. He can essentially incorporate any gear instantly without transforming and likely use them simultaneously or in tandem effortlessly. He can also clearly use his environment (which has been established long ago in regards to awakening).

Katakuri was literally teaching him the potential of his fruit when he eventually awakens. But manipulating his environment and molding his body into different shapes. The limitations aren’t endless, everything still has to fall within the realm of rubber. Like he’s not going to have this stupid toon force reality warping bullshit that everyone’s saying. That would make no sense at all. Like he can’t just make gun arms out of rubber that wouldn’t work for obvious reasons. Although he’ll be able to make swords, hammers, battle axes out of his limbs. He’ll be able to turn his entire body into objects. He’ll be able to turn his environment into rubber the same way Katakuri was able to turn his environment into mochi. This has all been explained to us before. It shouldn’t be confusing.

If we actually read back on it you'd really see that there was no real chance for WG to fully commit to Luffy and take him out when he was a rookie while being indiscrete about it since they want it a secret, and even when they did go all out (Like marineford) they always failed.

I wonder why Luffy, Law and Tama have the only devil fruits that have side effects from excessive use. Luffy is the only zoan who's transformations ALL have side effects; Law's "room" taxes him pretty heavily, and Tama gets drained by making numerous kibi dangos.
I didn't realize Sanji's kick is blue that makes it so much more amazing! Also in the cover you can see Zoro's conqueror's haki coming off of the blade is a greenish wisp. I like Oda driving into these colors. More blue for Sanji, more green for Zoro and with this chapter even more red for Luffy. Monster trio are too hype right now

I don’t each fruit chooses it’s user I think the only picking part may be to fully awaken the fruits true power because anyone can eat a fruit some are even awarded like to people like with CP9 and we’ve never seen a case where a fruit rejects it’s eater. Same with the swords anyone can use one but not all can handle them to their full potential.

This chapter really crazy and reveal alot. It had me and my bro thinking, he said what if the thing Roger n the crew was laughing was this on a ponegliff (I'm rubber you're glue whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you) because of the joy, happiness and freedom it bring to people by the user of that devil fruit! theory: rubery bodies and the ability to control fire, i think nika in life was a lunarian, his soul got put inside a devil fruit or something, and now luffy can do what nika could do. maybe judge actually tried to replicate lunarian physiology and thats why most vinsmokes can manifest "fire" (light, electricity and fire with sanji) their rubery bodies instead changed to be metalic and their eyebrows are similar to luffy's in gear 5. maybe sora was a distant descendant of lunarians hence why judge decided to have her birth his kids, it definetly wasnt love xD
I agree. I always wondered how no one thought twice about Luffy using Red Hawk just because he can lol. I know Sanji can also use fire but that’s something that I always questioned as well. Oda is generally surgically precise with his decisions to show major characteristics or attacks. So we’ll see

I love one piece, I think is one of the greatest manga of all time. But idk how I feel about luffy having this OP devil fruit. I used to like Luffy because it was so silly and he made it cool. I mean didn’t something like this happen in Naruto and Sasuke being decedents and people were upset.

@@elsol1176 mate, it all comes down to your definition of freedom. Do you think destiny placed shackles on Luffy and cut out his tongue? He was always free to say what he wanted to say and do what he wanted to do, nothing about that was written in stone. The only thing destiny did was write down the potential of fulfilling a prophecy when Luffy ate the fruit. It could've very easily been a failure if he lost his way in the journey and stopped defending freedom wherever he went.

@@elsol1176 I get what you're saying, this is obviously a story written by an author who wants his protagonist to fulfill the prophecy. In that regard their shouldn't even be a discussion about freedom cause all is decided by one person.
But for me, in reality at least, freedom is decided at the level of your day to day life, the present, what you're choosing to do right now regardless of what the world has in store for you at the end.
Here, Oda made it so Luffy doesn't even know that a prophecy exists. So what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter if it's "riddled with prophecy and destiny", freedom operates outside of these things. Nothing contradictory here.

These aren’t prophecy this is promise that has been unfulfilled. Luffy carries the will of those who loved freedom Joyboy, Roger and Ace are the people that and this fruit gives him more power to that freedom.

I think He wont be able to use his rubber abilities for a bit when the gear five ends, I find it logical, luffy with rubber abilities is its hybrid form, gear five is its fully transformed form that includes that he has a normal human form that is compelitly normal, and when gear 5 (fully transformed form) ends he's gonna be in his human form
