@jamespettit1792 A very, very young James Earl Jones in that particular masterpiece. And what a great role to have landed so early on in his career!! Goes to show you what faith a great talent like Kubrick saw in the young James Earl Jones.
I typically don't get sad about celebrity deaths, but I was truly saddened to hear about the passing of James Earl Jones today. I grew up with Star Wars and always admired his deep, resonant, mellifluous voice (so much so, that I have tried to emulate that voice; the degree to which I have been successful in that regard is certainly up for debate haha). And the facts that he overcame his childhood stutter and rose above the racism of his formative years are so inspiring to me. I am also honored to have shared my birthday with such an iconic actor. Rest in power, James. You lived a good, long life.
James Earl Jones, before he died, provided a lot of voice samples to help teach a Ai to do Darth Vaders voice, so the character could live on beyond him. That's true dedication to the fans, making plans to provide for them after you're gone.
Just a thought,. Imagine that statement from the perspective of when ANH was released. "One day you're going to teach a _Ai_ to do your voice and its subtle inflections, to do this character after you die." Now that would seem Sci fi back then. "So Ai won't be communicating in beeps and boops....?"
Damn, that's cool, from both his part and whoever went to him ask for his voice, this' what people should do instead of whatever's happening in the industry
We lost an icon that gave us happy childhood memories to look back on. Rest in Peace James Earl Jones, a true legend who gave life to the greatest cinematic villain in history Darth Vader and a king in Mufasa.
In 1977 I was 11 years old Saw Star Wars on it’s original release in theatres Blew my 11 year old mind! Saw it 13 Saturdays in a row at the kings theatre❤🇨🇦god bless James Earl Jones😢
I saw the 1997 re-release of A New Hope when I was 7 years old. On the ride home it was snowing, and it looked exactly like the Millennium Falcon traveling through hyper space. I begged my mom to buy me the box set of the original trilogy for around $150, if I remember correctly. James Earl Jones has been one of my oldest and most constant friends, a voice that I will forever hear in my mind. I know that my memories of him are just a drop in the ocean of all the lives he's touched, and that they certainly pale in comparison to those who knew him personally, but I'm thankful for the part he's played in my life all the same. Rest in peace, James Earl Jones.
For me, The Sandlot, The Lion King, Comming to America, and Star Wars (Vader) are what I think of when I think of James Earl Jones. Those are the iconic roles I always remember of him. He did so many other movies and shows, but those stand out in my mind.
For me, his first appearance on film that I recall (the movies you listed were definitely iconic) was Admiral Greer from The Hunt for Red October. "I said speak your mind, Jack, but Jesus..." (with that throaty chuckle)
Admiral James Greer flashed his ID card to the Commander in charge of the SONAR and leaned in close "Now, understand, Commander, that torpedo did not self-destruct. You heard the torpedo hit the hull and I was never here." One of my favorite (and totally badass) lines in the film "The Hunt for Red October" (1990). The way James Earl Jones portrayed his character and, like my parents, his military service directly led my decision to join the military and do the same job his character had (Intel) and it was the best 20 year career I could have ever asked for. Thank you good sir and may you rest in peace. Rangers, lead the way!
I loved his work in the Tom Clancy movies, especially Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games. There's something about him interacting with Harrison Ford in such a wildly different context that just makes me smile.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who didn't have some film in their childhood that James wasn't in. The Sandlot, Star Wars, The Lion King, Coming to America, the list goes on. To call James an actor, or even a legendary actor, is an understatement. There are no words in any language that can accurately summarize James, and his voice was his gift to us. James served in the US Army and earned a ranger tab in the 1950s. Today we didn't lose just another actor, we lost an icon, and to many, a hero. Darth Vader is perhaps the greatest action villain of all time; it's not something I give a lot of thought to. But when I thought about it, Darth Vader was the first that came to mind, then the Emperor, of course. I'm glad that they made the switch from David Prowse being the body AND the voice to James Earl Jones taking on the voice. It's also kind of crazy to think that James Earl Jones was watching David Prowse's physical acting, undeniably using that for the way he would say something. The coordination between the two of them is an unbelievable talent. Such a shame to see both of them gone. RIP.
Of course Star Wars, but the roles I'll always remember him for even though they were relatively minor were as Admiral Greer in The Hunt for Red October and as General Solomon in Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun
True, but they have his voice recreated in AI which they used in Kenobi. So if they ever do more vader, they will be using that voice model. But that might be down the line, and might not sit well with many. But, to be fair, he signed up for it. All I can do is respect this decision this one time.

James Earl Jones' role as Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian was the first time I actually saw the actor perform on screen. As I grew up and explored his other works and voices .... truly remarkable life. Iconic is every sense of the word. May he live forever in his acting works he gave us.
Funny enough, one of my first thoughts was, he's with Madge now. Madge Sinclair was the first female Captain depicted in Star Trek, commanding the Saratoga in Star Trek IV, and Geordi's Mother Silva LaForge in TNG, but she appeared as Queen Aoleon opposite James Earl Jones King Jaffe Joffer in "Coming to America" and was Sarabi, Mufasa's mate in "The Lion King". So to young me, they were the default King and Queen.
James Earl Jones' voice is one of those aspects that grounded Star Wars and "sold it" in an era where Sci Fi was uncommon. I remember watching the OT with my grandparents in the 90s (who are about the same age as Jones) and they would always be like "wow...that voice!"
My favourite voice actor who had the best voice ever...He was truly an icon in the voice acting industry and the one voice actor who brought life to one of the most if not the most iconic fictional character in history,Darth Vader. He will be greatly missed... Rest in peace,James Earl Jones. May the force be with you.❤
Great evidence that he was a good guy and not a Hollywood diva type: his guest role on "The Big Bang Theory" playing "himself". You could tell he was having fun with that appearance. We are lucky to have had him at all.

James Earl Jones' role as Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian was the first time I actually saw the actor perform on screen.
As I grew up and explored his other works and voices .... truly remarkable life. Iconic is every sense of the word. May he live forever in his acting works he gave us.
There aren't many deaths of actors that would move me. This is one of them.
Rest in Peace, James Earl Jones. 😭😭😭
Amen.
2:24 Let's also not forget The Hunt for Red October.
i always loved how ecks articulates loss i needed that rest in peace james earl jones
My two favourite "bad guys" in movies were James Earl Jones
James Earl Jones' voice is one of those aspects that grounded Star Wars and "sold it" in an era where Sci Fi was uncommon. I remember watching the OT with my grandparents in the 90s (who are about the same age as Jones) and they would always be like "wow...that voice!"
My favourite voice actor who had the best voice ever...He was truly an icon in the voice acting industry and the one voice actor who brought life to one of the most if not the most iconic fictional character in history,Darth Vader.
He will be greatly missed...
Rest in peace,James Earl Jones.
May the force be with you.❤
Thulsa Doom
Admiral James Greer
Mufasa
Darth Vader
all his best!
RIP JEJ!!! Liked every movie u were ever in. Loved him in A Clear And Present Danger. But there’s too many to even mention. Peace be with u!
Great evidence that he was a good guy and not a Hollywood diva type: his guest role on "The Big Bang Theory" playing "himself". You could tell he was having fun with that appearance. We are lucky to have had him at all.
😢😢😢😢😢My childhood is taken away. He will forever be MUFASA . THE TRUE KING OF DISNEY. .. IM 36 YEARS OLD AND I CAN SAY THAT JAMES EARL JONES DID AMAZING BEYOND WORDS IN THE LION KING.. R.I.P MR JAMES EARL JONES ❤
He will never be forget rip
James made that role what it was. Definition of irreplaceable casting not just in Vader's role but in any part he played because he's what made the part iconic. I've never heard a voice like his in anyone else in cinema and even in the end he held that legendary voice. RIP to the goat
RIP 🪦 💐😢💐😢
