I'm a big hairy guy who looks like I should be on a large motorcycle. I've owned them in the past. Now I'm on a 150 PCX and having a blast. There are few other scooter riders in my area and I really don't care. I even ride on dirt roads where I run into people on big ADV bikes. It's really really funny. Don't let anyone discourage you from having fun.

I think scooter riders universally really don’t care what people think, or need their approval. Maybe peer pressure isn’t a thing for us, or the need to answer to anyone. We’re happy with what we want, so there’s no problem with our choices.
I fully agree. I’m far from being a wrench, but I can do basic maintenance. Anything major and I find a mechanic. I have a few friends who always think they can fix things themselves, like taking apart their car stereo, or TV, only to have them sit In a pile of jumbled parts for a year or two while they ignore problem. I just want to fix the problem, and if I can’t do it I find someone who can.
Yeah, fragile male-ego/male only riding clubs - just avoid them like the plague. That sounds like a dumpster fire ready to go off the rails. There are plenty of all inclusive clubs that will welcome any rider with open arms. Or like you said, you can choose to ride alone and still have a blast.

I’ve been riding motorcycles and scooters since the 1970s. I rode to work 4 to 5 days a week (here in the Tampa Bay area). Now retired, I still ride to the gym, the doctors offices, movies, and the grocery store. Scooters are amazing. Ride safe.

I have been riding since long long before you were born, but I am still enjoying your videos! My wife has been riding with me since the 1970s, but recently she has expressed an interest in riding our Buddy 50 ( we live in the country, so traffic really isn’t a problem. The 50 does fine). Your comments and observations in helping know how to best encourage that exploration!
I also appreciate your emphasis on wearing appropriate gear. I cannot understand some of my riding buddies who fully gear up when we are on our motorcycles, but don’t think twice about hopping on a scooter wearing just a T shirt and flip flops. Having been in the ground for a slide a few times, hitting the pavement at 50 mph on a scooter does not hurt any less than it does on a full size bike!
I watched your video on “Is it hard to ride?” Scooters are an interesting lesson in applied physics. One had to balance numerous factors at once. Skills like counter steering and leaning into a curve when going fast ,but against turn when going slow are counter-intuitive.Practice is good, but it is best if paired with on-going learning. There are a lot of how to ride better videos on TH-cam, and I encourage everyone to watch them and then practice the skills until they have mastered them. I have been riding since 1972, and I am still learning things on a regular basis!

I have to thank you for this comment on so many levels. You made me feel younger at the very least!! Haha!
Good point in the always learning part. I only just recently started paying attention to how the lean in a curve feels at the different speeds. I took some things for granted as a former cyclist, but you articulated that well.

I just turned 500 miles on my new Like 150 that I bought one month ago. I'm going out this morning for a ride to breakfast at my favorite diner, about 30 miles. I love my scooter, it's more fun than my Honda 500 that I traded in on it. Scooters are great, you just have to use secondary roads and not be in a hurry. I almost never see another scooter here in PA and have never even known anybody else who owned one, except one guy in high school over 50 years ago. I think the closest scooter club to me is about 200 miles away, but that's OK because I gave up on group rides long ago after too many bad experiences on group motorcycle rides. Keep on scooting, it's fun and practical.

Ive been riding for over 40 years. I ride motorcycles and scooters. I dont own a car and do everything on my old Vespa. Im pretty certain Im a less stressed 60 year old due to it. Its cheap to run and always puts a smile on my face. I have five motorcycles as well as the Vespa. I build them. When I started riding a scooter I copped alot of flack from motorcycle guys I knew. Now some of them have bought scooters as well to save their bikes. One even started a scooter business. I keep my bikes for longer rides though Im thinking of doing a trip on the scooter. Love them.

I ride a motorcycle (Suzuki SV650 from 2017) and sometimes I can ride a scooter (Vespa Primavera) that is now occupied by my son. At sundays, I love to take the Vespa for riding into town, get some bred and just enjoying riding in an urban area. Another scooter, the Piaggio Liberty, is being used by my other son, they are twins, now 15 years old. Next year my sons will achieve the motorcycle license and then will go for a Kawasaki Ninja 125 and a Yamaha MT125 (I already ordered them) - meaning the end of the scooter-era in our family, which is a pity, but I need to sell both for spending the money on the Ninja and the MT. Maybe, one day, I will find myself going to Vespa and just buy a GTS for myself... Regards from Germany.

This video reminded me of when I changed to Goldwings and joined the GWRRA. Everyone encouraged my wife to ride. I bought her a 750 Honda. She was scared of anything over 250cc, so I contacted the salesman ahead of time and told him if he wanted the sale, tell her it was 250cc when she asked. She rode it for 2 months. I signed us up for the MSF experienced rider course. After arriving, one of our friend came out and complimented her having the Honda racing bike. She replied it was only 250. I'm making all the gestures to shut him up, but he continued and showed her the stamp on the engine. She lost confidence. It took her another 3 months to stop running in ditches because she thought it was now to big for her to turn. She later graduated to a Wing of her own. But it was a good story. Yep, that motorcycle club group isn't the only one like that unfortunately. But, there are some women only motorcycle clubs too. Anyhoo, long comment to say you brought back memories and thanks again for another good post. Enjoy your style.

I've been riding for over sixty years and don't have to prove anything to anyone. Oddly enough I get the same reaction when I go to group events whether I'm on my 250cc Chinese scooter or my 1983 750 Kawasaki. Many people treat me like I'm invisible since the bike of choice for over 90% of the attendees is a certain big V-Twin from the Mid West. I have people who recognize the age of Kawasaki and start a conversation or if they don't recognize my scooter I get inquiries as to its origin. I'm a rider. Whether I'm on the two bikes above, my 250 Nighthawk or the 170cc Chinese scooter I also own. I don't discriminate in either direction, scooter or bike since I ride both.

@@ScooterNewbie I am still learning and working towards getting my full license. So I am riding a little geared YBR 125 as part of that training. The process to get a license in the UK is quite difficult and more involved than in the US. I agree about many scooter riders being obnoxious, or at least poor riders. That's because they aren't actually interested in scooters but simply use it as a tool foe a job as a delivery rider. You can spot them easily as they always have learner plates, ride a cheap scooter (nothing like a vintage Vespa) and have a box mounted to the back for food delivery. They also weave in and out of traffic dangerously. They also don't need to learn the Highway Code (that's our book or road rules) and can simply ride on learner plates forever if they simply take a few hours basic training (called a CBT) every two years. But they are quite different from someone who geneuinely wants to be riding a scooter and at least it is keeping bikes and scooters in peoples minds here.

I think the riders that treated the wife that way were probably a 1% club. Not something that most riders want to be involved with. Most riders I know are happy to ride with women or anyone that has a love for two wheels.
I ride both motorcycles and scooters, usually alone because I enjoy solitude and like to ride my own ride. I'm a bit of a recluse though. I haven't had a scooter for a while, but am pondering getting one again. I commute year round and may trade my Kymco Spade, which I love, for the right scooter because of the utilitarian ease they have. I can't bring myself to get ride of my FZ6 though and will keep it for the spirited riding.

Scooters, even Maxi scooters aren't that popular in the US because the US has so many long and fast highways. It would be boring to just hold on to the throttle for miles on end. I've personally known a few fellow scooter riders who dozed off while riding a scooter on a long road. Good thing they didn't die from the experience.

I have heard that comment on riding a big bike versus the scooter before! Seems crazy, but I’ve never actually ridden a motorcycle yet!
I am looking to shake things up in the garage. That said, I’ve been actively trying to figure out what I “need” since May! I want something bigger to add to where I can go, but I want bigger tires than the GTS. I need to get my hands on a maxi scooter to see if that works for me. I’m being picky/not much of a used market nearby/back ordered new scoots.
While I figure out my next steps, I am semi looking for a 150 Vespa to get a feel for what makes them special!
What size Vesper do you ride?

I am 67 year old grandma and I want a Vespa!! Am I crazy?? I use to ride a 650 Honda Shadow motorcycle. It really didn’t work for me so I gave it to my daughter. I just don’t know if I am to old. I don’t feel old but I don’t see any older female riding scooters. What do you think?

I think what people are worried about is,
You can be a rider with advacned skill. but what if some crasy person run over you? (Example; waiting for the lgiht at the croosroads)
At least you wont loose your life if you are in the 4 wheels right?
This is where i start to fail pursuading others becaus i think they are right 😂😂

No food montages.. you mean.. you don't cook pizza on your exhaust? I've actually seen folks cook or heat food up wrapped in foil like that. You should try camping with the scooters. My wife won't ride (she's not physically able to) but I'm good to have her follow me in the car to the camp site.

Wait. Are you for real?! 😂 I have to find that on TH-cam tonight! I can’t even imagine!
That made me smile to hear she’ll follow in the car to join in on the camping!! There is 1 campsite I think I could make with my 125cc, so we are talking about trying out that route for a day trip when it cools down a touch. I’m excited to give it a try! I happen to have small gear from when I used to do some trail running events, but I have a bit to figure out logistically before I go full steam ahead!

@@ScooterNewbie Yeah be Real careful if you go off road on the scooter cus ya know they aren't designed for it. The campground we like is part of a spillway with paved road access. Big rocks won't be an issue just pot holes and alligators. (small ones, 3 feet, the gators are slightly larger) I couldn't go camping without my wife the gators don't like to snuggle plus I get to pack the car with camping gear. LOL It would be a Neat if you made a video of your camping journey.

I've got no problem with male or female only riding clubs. Sometimes it's OK to just want to be around same sex. To each his own. I'm buying my first scooter in a couple days.

I have a KYMCO 50 it’s not fast at all I live in a small town but always think what others think . My scooter is so slow maybe high speed is 26 why not sure wish it was a little faster but no . I had get it registered and when I registered they classified it as a motorcycle but I was told that a 50 cc motor bike that does not go faster than 26 mph. Does it need to be registered but the state cannot change it anymore so now it’s considered a motorcycle. Very funny, right anyway I know you done reviews on scooters do you know why this bike would go slow the Kimco like scooter mines is a 50

My youngest son asked if I could have a safer hobby like jigsaw puzzles? Ha ha! Had the same reactions about me riding since I'm in my 60's but I'm still learning! TH-cam commentators have the benefit of anonymity to say negative things for sure. Good to ignore the less than good comments! You go, Girl! Keep riding! BTW, did you figure out your next scooter/cycle?

Puzzles. 🤣 Well, I do like puzzles but SCOOTERS!!
I still don’t know! We went shopping this past weekend, and I’m still unsure. It’s tough to get my hands on a maxi scooter to test.
You feeling more comfortable out & about riding?

@@ScooterNewbie Ha Ha! I'd rather be on the scooter, too!! LOL! I still need to get my license. I stayed off the scooter for a few weeks until my knee felt better but got on it again a couple weekends ago in a parking lot to practice. I just love it but still need time on it to get better. I am determined to do this!
Just heard the 2022 Suzuki Burgman 200 will be released at some point to the USA. Mine is the 400 and the 200 can do 55-60 I think. Mine a little more for highway riding. Not going to do that anytime soon! LOL! But you'll find the perfect one when the time is right. Keep up with your videos! I look for them when I pop on TH-cam. Good job and thanks for the chat! Lori

Wow, I would not be in a club like that. This attitude comes from male dominated outlaw biker clubs which most motorcycle clubs seem to mimic. It's Sad. They have draconian rules made up they expect others to follow or they will break your kneecaps. Rules like you cannot wear a jacket with a State on it because some clubs feel whole states are their territory. Essentially it's a lot of gown men who wanna play biker and haven't gotten past the mental age of 12.
