I had the Ohlins R&T in my FD2 Civic Type R. I left it all in default settings from the Ohlins factory and it felt fabulous. You might want to pair this with Spoon's rigid collar. The subframe and steering box collars took the Ohlins experience to the next level. Some users say its not stiff enough but don't let the pliant ride fool you. It handles brilliantly. Well at least that was my experience on the FD2R
The spoon rigid collars make a HUGE difference. I used them in a built k20 ef hatch I had paired with tiens and was in love with the way they helped eat up autocephalous courses.
you could run helper springs to lower the vehicle and keep the spring in check with the set preload, i miss my Ohlins terribly and trying to grab a set if I can get an FL5 allocation but am upset at fact of only being able to adjust the spring on fronts so helper springs is the way.
Would be awesome to see Timbro test drive the cars you guys work on and hear his thoughts as well, other than that, awesome video as always! And Timbros little segment building the suspension was very nice ✌️
I'll say this, I worked for Sakebomb Garage for over 5yrs and i'm still massively friends with everyone there. There is nothing, I mean nothing more deadly than swedish cardboard. I don't know what it is, but I've damn near lost fingers with Ohlins boxes.
Hopefully they will come out with the springs set for the fl5 soon so you can swap them out. People have said that the spring rates aren't the same because the car is longer and heavier but they work.
Actually, with the front suspension. You could’ve just used a tool to squeeze the springs, and it would easily come out. I have done three times the installation for my suspension on the FK8 so if you have a compressor tool that you can compress the spring it would be much more easier to just get it out. It’s a pain in the ass to get out and take so much stuff out which happened to be the first time I did it and later on we find a solution just here to share this with you Really cool that you tried to set up right now I’m curious how it does on this new car
Sorry, but I actually watching further on. I realize that you have to tool to do it. It is the tool that you were compressing the spring to get the top hat out. That tool would have worked perfectly when you were trying to take the front suspension out instead of having to take off so much other stuff
Around 2006 i put ground control coilovers on my 97 tegy gsr. 400 spring rate front and rear. I didnt slam it either. Had similar gap as your type r. It handled like a dream. Had evos, sti, s3 since then and i still miss the gsr.
Onlins is all I use on racebikes. Awesome stuff, although I'm not sure I'm gonna put it on the Fl5. My Porsche doesn't have the adaptive suspension, so , I'm gonna keep it on the type R. Your car looks great btw.
A tip for anyone watching this - there is NO need to remove the control arm or the axle nut. No need to lower the subframe either. You can leave all in situ and you'll be able to slip the damper out of the fork. Once you got the right technique it's quite easy on the FL5.
Thank you so much for the tip. This design is similar to Focus RS, I remember having a tough time with the fronts but once you get the technique down it's easy money.
Hey love the video I have a question did you have to decode or have any error codes for the OEM EDC system for the car when you switched to them coilovers?
uhhh from my understanding, can't you just remove the three nuts on top hat, two bolts on the knuckle, then sway bar end links and just pry it up and out?
Still super surprised that Honda didn't put a vented rear rotor on the type R.. Seems like a weird, and non cost skyrocketing adder to have a vented rear rotor vs a spot to skimp on a track focused car. Minor I know, but still.
It looks perfect especially if it isn't on full time track duty! Can't wait to see it with a Spoon lip! Jomoto san special delivery? 😉 It's such a misconception to need a car extremely low for "handling" purposes especially if you aren't correcting the roll center or allowing for enough suspension travel which ends up ruining handling for "looks." Ohlins knows exactly what they're doing and I'm confident it'll be perfect like this!
I'll never understand high end, expensive coilovers making you reuse the stock top hats. Can anyone explain to me why this is? Seems counterintuitive and something the $2-300 sets do.
If your goal is the stance then coilovers is for you, but performance waste of money, stock is the best. Unless you have a suspension tuner who will dial it in the track.
The potential issue you run into when using fk8 suspension is that they are valved for the fk8 which doesnt necessarily mean the valving id correct for the fl5. For the street it’s probable “fine”? But on the track you won’t be optimal, so keep that in mind.
@@JonBonazza This doesn't make a ton of sense if you understand how struts work and these are already adjustable. There simply isn't enough of a difference between the FK8 and the FL5 suspension geometry to require revalving the dampening curves. The motion ratios will be almost, if not, identical. The difference in the FL5 kit will possibly be a revised spring rate(s) and slightly different recommended settings to achieve their profiled ride height, preload and damper profiles.
Very embarrassing haha I could do the whole car by myself in 6-8hrs. Coilovers are all the same install. I'm not even a mechanic. I did Godspeed Mono SS on my Dodge Caliber sxt, and Bc Racing Coilovers on my Dodge caliber SRT-4 😂😂
Very stoked to be a part of this!

i love the ohlins. I had them on a previous car. I want to get them for my supra. well worth the $3K+ price tag
LETS GO TIM!! I love seeing him take the cam and break stuff down like he did with the coils. So excited for whats to come for yall!
Looks great Dut!
I also love the 1-2 minutes Tim spends to explain/break things down.
I love how you are always doing crazy things with your cars. Thanks for all the amazing videos
I feel a Hako coming very soon Dustin 😉 love your video's
I feel like the more "sports" cars come out, we are gonna have to guess fit different productes like in this case.

19:30 yessir Dut... Canyon runs with Hondata tune and Ohlins is mandatory friend! Be safe and look forward to seeing the results!
i heard you mention white buffalo... Cleetus McFarland had a truck he sold a few years ago he called the White Buffalo... Probably not the same car...
Watching this video on my Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 and watching it 4k resolution is just freaking amazing!!!

it will settle give it a few weeks! R looks sick with TE's & Lowered!
I hope there will be a Japan in a van Season 2, I enjoyed every single episode 💥💥💥
I hope there's 11 season to that series man, it was so good!❤

I run the Ohlins on my M340i. Best coilovers ever, they ride and perform better than stock. No compromise solution.
FL5 looking super juicy!!💯💯🤙

🔥You will love those Ohlins Road and Track. I have these on my R32 GTR. That DVF tech is the best and well worth every penny! #greatwhitebuffalo

Tru mechanic. Using whatever tools at hand to hammer with lol love it Dut
Spoon jus released an exhaust kit for the FL5 Dut
When I saw 20in rays I'm thinking a90 r35 new z. Wasn't thinking about a 4wd. In my mind I was what jdm car could fit 20s haha
@Dustin Williams Did you use the KW cancellers from the FK8?
rear shock spring does it have to have a rubber cover?
Lookig good may man I need to pick up one of those Legend t's. Type r looking dope.
Looks good but the spoon springs would of been lil lowers since you still can’t adjust those anyways
Isn't the suspension design for Fk8 that has different size , weight and different tires then fl5?
Did your fl5 come with tinted windows or did you get them tinted?
How many miles should I put into the car before I change the suspension?
I’ve got a few door and dash rattles in my FL5. They are driving me crazy. Have. You got any in yours? Thanks Dustin.
uhhh from my understanding, can't you just remove the three nuts on top hat, two bolts on the knuckle, then sway bar end links and just pry it up and out?
I can see this car turning from a street/daily car into a track car based on the suspension you chose 👍🏼👍🏼
Somebody needs to make some risers for the wing. I think then it'll look mint 😍
Do the active dampers still work?
Is it me or did u guys put the front springs in the rear ? 48000 15/60 belongs in the front.
It’s just you lol
@@dustiinwyou should double check the instructions.

Nicce can't wait for the new give away car🙌
can i upgrade the base model to this suspension
The big reason they are quiet is bec you're using the Oem top hats, rubber bushings. Most aftermarket top hats are spherical and have less compliance
I can only imagine with a name like white Buffalo it's gonna be awesome. So are overlanding trips coming to the channel
big up .. much respect from estonia
The steering rack arm???? You mean a tie rod?
So is it stiffer than comfort mode?
The Hamilton Collection sponsoring haha COLLAB!!
you gotta get yellow TE37SL's for this car
Big job but you guys did it. Looks sick.
Will you PPF the FK8?
Who else got anxiety watching Dustin waving the boxcutter around in the intro lol. I was expecting that to cut him, not the cardboard box lol.
Anybody else notice the young sinatra lV beat at 4:03🔥
A Japan part? Guessing it’s the spoon front lip!!!
The suspension is the same as my 17 accord coupe, i understand the 3 and half hours with the front suspension lol

How is godspeed products because they make coilovers also ...S3 suspension is another company
Try Gtr R33 exhaust sound like hks r33 drag Gtr Gran Turismo 2
You should take the FL-5 over to pandem for a widebody kit

What lip do you have coming from Japan? 😏😉😉
Front lip from Japan 🤔🤔
Wait so if you wanted to go lower than that…you can’t? I’m so confused on how coilovers like that work.
