How to Lay Sheet Flooring

I've seen so many different ways to lay vinyl flooring. It basically comes down to, 1) Make it fit, 2) make it stick. Other than that, it's wild wild west, go at it.

If my subfloor has expansion gaps between the plywood, what do you recommend using under the vinyl sheet so the flooring doesn't sink into the gaps?

I use type 2 silicone calk.
