When you said “it was perfect for me”, the Kotaku voice in my head was telling me, “yeah because it’s for the male gaze”. But the crazy thing about Stellar Blade is that the VAST majority of gamers I see reacting to and playing the game are women. Now MAYBE there are some purchase stats that say otherwise, but it turns out that beauty and even skimpiness is still VERY much enjoyed by women, because women are women.
@PWNINSWAGMASTER Yeah, it's funny - I think a lot of mainstream outlets are too disconnected from what gamers or the general population actually like. Everyone likes attractive things. Mix that with fun gameplay, and you have a winner in my book!

I was waiting for this review. I'm still playing the game and so far I love it. Everything in the game is so satisfying, from the gameplay to the art/graphics and the music fits so perfectly that I couldn't blame someone who says Stellar Blade is the perfect game. The only think I don't like about is that Sony made them censor stuff like outfits and gore but even with all that said, game is pretty solid. Glad to see you had a great time with the game!
It's definitely a bummer about the last-minute censorship. It seems really unnecessary. But the game overall is a step in the right direction. Glad you're digging it, too!
Great review! I had a funny interaction on discord with some friends about this game. I was talking about how i loved that they had a sexy main character, and one of my guy friends said it was disappointing because it objectified woman. Then one of my girl friends said they enjoyed it because they could be hot and powerful lol! Poor guy didnt know what to say 😂
Great game, I'm having a lot of fun with it. I think one of the aspects that is not so good is the platforming parts because of the not very precise movements of Eve. The fishing minigame mechanics using the controller triggers is great though. Overall a stellar game 😁, recommended for action fans who are looking for some different experience
I can definitely see what you mean with the platforming - there were a few times, I got frustrated since the jumps were never very precise. In the grand scheme, it didn’t have a major impact on my enjoyment although a bit of tightening for the controls for jumping would be nice!
Yes, luckily the platforming part is minor and mostly optional. I really loved the alternating between the open map and more linear levels, plus the huge amount of exploration

Funny story actually, I suck at these action games, and I was just about to quit at the boss fight Unidentified naytiba because I thought i was soft locked. 1.0 version, story mode, bunny suit, I fought the naytiba alot, I used all the WB pumps, the store sold out... The next day after quiting basically because I thought I couldnt beat the boss without WB pumps lol, i kept fighting the boss. I got past the instakill black pool several times but would still die. I did use the Tachy mode during the fights. Then one time I died probably 20+ deaths total, I spawned with this suit. I thought it was a game aid because I sucked so bad. I then said woah cool let me see who else had it, couldnt find anything. I then switched to the skin suit, and back to the bunny suit and it dissapeared. Note: It stayed with me when I fought the boss and everything.
I find it quite comical when people include 'hypersexualized character' in the same paragraph they note that she is designed exactly after a real life person!?!
@adamscottgames nobody's insisting that they use those outfits, there's plenty of outfits that are very covering, Shift Up did the perfect solution by giving people choice instead of pushing them in either direction!
Yes tell why I should play, keep in mind if you can’t convince me I’m unsubscribing but let me subscribe real quick so that’s possible… it should be a little bit difficult as I’ve hit 100% two times now but still… I don’t like feeling left out of the convincing party… will I play another gn+ 🤔
I couldn't vibe with the gameplay enough to warrant a second playthrough. It was too simple compared to dmc, bayo, and ninja gaiden without the challenge of either. 2 of the locations were empty wastelands, and the story was painfully generic, predictable, and boring. Eve is also just a painfully dull boring character, at least on the english dub. Maybe she was given poor voice direction?
@adamscottgames Yeah, a lot of the big hyped triple action games don't really click with me. So I just never by into the hype. Not for most aaa games anyway. Being disappointed by games like Horizon Zero Dawn, new god of war, in retrospect Spiderman 2, ect I just don't play them or get hyped for all the new releases. The only new Aaa projects coming out that are technically "new" are next year: metroid prime 4, doom dark ages, and trails in the sky remake for switch. Other than that, I ended up playing old games I missed out on, or just comfort games. I've been burned too many times at this point. I don't think we'll see a "pure" action game like Ninja gaiden ever again. Not really a fan of souls likes, the combat feels more paitence based than skillful expression of traditional action games. I've heard the nioh games have some of that ninja gaiden dna still in there. If they don't thats ok. At least there's 4 great ninja gaiden games to play. I've just accepted I'm no longer the primary customer. Tons of indies I have to get to also. Just as soon as I can pull myself away from my umpteenth replay of Halo 2, on legendary this time for the first time in years.
@chozochiefxiii3298 I tend to find myself gravitating toward more indie games lately vs AAA games. Nioh is fun - definitely slower than ninja gaiden with a lot of soulslike elements.

Great video. I don't think Eve is an emotionless protagonist though. She's one of the kindest, most compassionate protagonists I can think of.

That's a bummer it didn't click with you. I suspect the voice direction was intentionally without feeling
