Hi friends. Using ATMs in Thailand is not the best way of obtaining Thai Baht. However, many times that is our only option. Hope this video helps in saving some money along the way.
@skateboarder-yr9qg The markup fee is levied by the card issuing bank. I have a debit card issued in India, on which I do not have to pay markup fee on any Forex transaction. You just have to look around for a card like that.
@dennisspackman7147 Hi. Thank you for sharing the info. I have learned that Krungsri ATMs allow cash withdrawal up to 30,000 Baht. I will include this information when I prepare an updated version of this video.
Hi, I have a doubt. Does the exchange rate vary from atm to atm based on location? Do i get better exchange rate in atm in the city vs that in the airport? Or is it the same in both? Thanks!
@sohammukherjee8064 If you are using ATMs of the same bank, the exchange rates will not vary depending on location. However, transaction limits may be different for ATMs located at different places. And, an ATM located at an airport may try to force you to opt for Dynamic Currency Conversion. DCC is a completely useless process that increases the profit made by banks at the cost of the customers who use their ATMs.
Hello and greetings from Austria, great video, but I have a question. I read somewhere in public places (airports, train stations) the daily limit is 10,000 Bhat. Is that correct or not?
Hello. I am not aware of any such limit. In September 2022, I withdrew 20,000 Baht in a single transaction from Kasikorn Bank ATM in Bangkok. As well as I know, the daily withdrawal limit will be set by the card issuing bank. The ATM provider sets the per-transaction limit. In Thailand, most banks have a per-transaction limit of 20,000 or 25,000 Baht, and they charge a fee of 220 Baht for every transaction. I also read some Thai bank websites where they mention a daily withdrawal limit of 2,00,000 Baht for Thai customers. I am going to Thailand again on 12th June, and hope to withdraw another 20,000 Baht from an ATM there. If you ask me on the 13th, I can confirm.
@SuperMarioinGiappone I have not seen any such facility for international tourists in Thailand. Perhaps it will work if you have an account with a Thai bank and have a local debit card.
What if i use Forex card? Bookmyforex card says atm withdrawal fee is 65 baht and 18% gst. Will 200 baht added to 65 baht or just 65 baht will be deducted.

You can use your debit or credit card online on any website. At the time of use, you can be in India or in a foreign country. The process is same. If the transaction requires an OTP, your card issuing bank will send the OTP on your mobile.
First of all thanks for the video which give clear information and also hats off to you since you care to reply to each and every comments. I have a question too. I am planning my first international trip from India to Thailand for 8 days. Please advice which is best method for making transactions at Thailand. Is it by cash (if yes the do I need to convert INR to THB at India itself or after reaching Thailand), or by debit card (I have HDFC debit card - Mastercard, Federal bank and SBI - Visa) or by credit card (I have HSBC- Visa). 😕
Hi. The first thing, do not carry INR to Thailand. That one mistake must be avoided. If you have BookMyForex service in your city, they can deliver Thai currency to you at approximately 5% premium over the inter-bank rate. That is a good deal. If not, try to get USD currency at a cheap rate, at about 2% premium. USD can be easily converted to Thai Baht in Thailand. But for that, you will need to go to recommended money changers. I have put together a playlist for currency exchange in Thailand, which helps in saving money. This is the link: th-cam.com/play/PLcii2WHhv2RsC8SdEYpufzToOinX_WPEw.html Debit and credit cards can be used in Thailand for shopping and making payments, but make sure that they charge your card in Thai Baht only. Many vendors in Thailand apply DCC to card transactions without informing you beforehand. That costs more money. For any other clarification, please reply to this comment.
After reveiwing reply messages and watching your videso I have decided to convert a part amount of INR to THB required for VOA and remaining as USD to show as proof of fund and covert it to THB after exiting Thailand airport. Now my concern is about safety of the cash in hand at Thailand. Since I will be going for water activities there is always a threat of my bag being robbed. So is it possible to get USD converted to THB in the form of card so that I can withdraw required money from ATM without any charges or currency coversion fee. Also to use the same at merchant payment just like a debit card.
For that, you can take a Forex card in India itself, and load Thai currency on the card. Using that Forex card at merchant establishments in Thailand will be free (unless the vendor applies DCC). But when you withdraw cash from an ATM, charges will be there. There are Forex cards on which you can load one currency and then use it to pay in any currency without incurring any conversion fee.
@@desiyatri Unfortunately bookmyforex is not available in my city😔. Which is the alternative one you suggest. To get one from HDFC bank since I have an account there or any other option.
It actually depends on which bank's ATM you are using. I have read online that some ATMs let you withdraw 25,000 or 30,000 Baht in one transaction. But personally, any ATM that I ever used in Thailand, capped my transaction at 20,000 Baht.
Hi, im planning to go to Bangkok, can I use my gcash or paymaya card to withdraw cash? Can you recommend what bank will I use. Thank you in advance.❤❤❤ btw im from Philippines.
Hi. I suggest that you ask the card issuing companies. Because if you have a debit card or ATM card issued by a bank with international use activated, and it has a VISA, MasterCard, UnionPay, etc., logo on it, you should be able to withdraw cash from an ATM in Thailand. On the other hand, the cards issued by financial technology companies generally have a restricted usage policy. I am actually not aware of the policy of gash and paymaya. Only they can guide you.
Hi. From India, any foreign currency can be taken abroad up to a value equal to 5000 USD per person, without a Customs declaration. Any more than that will require making a declaration at the airport.
I have not seen that declaration form, but most likely, it will ask the source of funds, the purpose of taking the money abroad, and from where that forex was obtained. Harassment is practically guaranteed.
You are welcome. I just uploaded my next video. It will go live at 7.00 AM. Had to work late for that. Did you just subscribe to my channel? If yes, thank you for that.
The best way to minimize withdrawal charges is to withdraw as much as possible in a single transaction. In Thailand, most ATMs allow withdrawal of 20,000 THB in one transaction, and the Thai ATM fee is 220 Baht per transaction. Your card issuing bank will also charge for international card usage. Even if you withdraw cash from a Thai ATM using a Forex card, the same charges will apply. About shopping, it is possible to use credit card or forex card in many places, but you will need to be careful about dynamic currency conversion. As long as they charge your card in Thai Baht, it is ok. But if they are trying to charge your card in your home currency, it would be better to cancel the transaction.
@genshin5288 Hi. The shops or vendors where you have to pay, will give you change. I don't know of a place where you can change Thai bills into smaller denominations. Anywhere you have to pay, try using a 1000 THB note first.
@@desiyatri Alright. The thing is that 1000 Thai Baht seems to be a huge denomination even by Thai standards and I don’t want to be yelled at because this happened to me in India itself when I didn’t have change and tried to pay with a banknote of 500 rupees.
@genshin5288 They will not yell at you. They may ask for a smaller denomination, but it will be polite most of the time. After you break the first bill, it will get easier. From the second time onwards, whenever paying more than 100 Baht, try using a 1000 note first.
@NikunjSoni-kx4eh Cards are widely accepted in Thailand, but most merchants and restaurants demand an extra charge of 2 to 3%. Large format supermarkets such as Big C and Lotus's do not charge extra. However, everywhere in Thailand, you have to be careful about Dynamic Currency Conversion. They will charge your card in Indian rupees by applying DCC, and the cost of your transaction will increase by 5%. Back in India, your bank will again charge you extra for using DCC abroad. I prefer to use cash in Thailand, except when I am sure that they will not cheat me through DCC.
It is generally better to take USD to Thailand and exchange it there. However, there are times when we need to withdraw money from an ATM. I use ATMs in Thailand because my bank does not charge me for using ATMs abroad. I only have to pay for the Thai ATM charge - 220 Baht per transaction. But like I said in the video, if you are using an ATM in Thailand, try to withdraw the maximum possible amount, and do not choose DCC.
@JeRemy-uw3ke Yes, an international Mastercard can be used for merchant payments and purchases in Thailand. If you want to use it for ATM withdrawals, then it has to be a debit card. A credit Card will not work at an ATM. Additionally, you will have to activate international transactions on your card. For details on the terms and conditions relating to international usage of your SBI Mastercard, I suggest that you contact SBI Customer Care.
The Thai ATM charge will be 220 Baht, so it will be a transaction of total 10,220 Baht. Your bank will levy an international ATM card usage fee. Then there will be a currency markup fee on 10,220 Baht, which in India is 3.50%, but I do not know how much a bank in Bangladesh will charge. On the currency markup fee and ATM usage fee, an additional GST may be charged. All this, assuming you do not opt for DCC. With DCC, the currency markup fee will not be charged, but the transaction will cost more because of a worse exchange rate. It is better not to opt for DCC.

@HemanthReddyBharatiya Hi. Indian citizens are allowed to stay in Thailand for upto 60 days without a visa, provided they land there on or before November 11, 2024. This is the best money changer in Delhi and many other places in India: th-cam.com/video/0jRIrSan33w/w-d-xo.html At this money changer, buying THB will be cheaper compared to carrying USD and then changing to THB in Thailand.
@Mary-xc2gu I don't have personal experience of using Western Union in Thailand, but perhaps you can try sending a remittance to your daughter through them. I think tourists can receive remittances after proving their identity at a Western Union location.
Is it cheaper to go to money exchange store with exchange rate than withdrawing max amount? Because I think, the conversion rate from banks is more cheaper? Thanks
@jerwintroy9560 If you can bring USD or another popular currency while coming to Thailand, then obviously, you will look for a good money changer. And there are a few good money changers in all major Thai cities. But all money exchange outlets are not good, and particularly the bank-owned exchange counters are usually bad. Some private money changers are good. On the other hand, ATMs are good for those who did not bring any currency to Thailand. Or, those who have special ATM cards with low domestic transaction fees. I have a special ATM card with zero transaction fees, and zero currency markup. I use one that in Thailand. Of course, I pay the Thai ATM charge, which is between 150 and 220 THB for withdrawing 20,000 Baht.
@user-eb4ub9qe2z I use IndusInd Bank Exclusive Visa Debit Card for ATM transactions. This card offers zero ATM fee outside India and zero currency markup fee. For credit card transactions, I use IndusInd Bank-Vistara Explorer Credit Card and IDFC Bank First Wow Credit Card. Both these cards come with the benefit of zero currency markup fee.

@user-eb4ub9qe2z It is like this. The bank in Thailand whose ATM you use will charge 220 Baht for every ATM transaction. Then the card issuing bank, in your case, HDFC Bank, will also charge you for every international ATM transaction on their debit card. It will not be Rs. 499, but maybe close to Rs. 150 or 200 plus GST at the rate of 18%. Now, if you choose to take a Forex card from any bank, you still have to pay charges for ATM usage of the card. Before you decide, read the schedule of charges for the debit card you are using and also for the Forex card you are considering buying. Then choose the one which is less expensive in terms of usage fees.

Hi my friend is flying Thailand in this weekend to learn skydiving A- certificate course. So he do stay in Delhi. I would like to know which is the best way to pay fee for their institute ( They are charging extra 5% if we use our Indian cards) . So is it better to convert all our INR into USD in Delhi and again reconvert them into thai Bhat at Bangkok airport ...?
Is there any need to carry Thai Bhat from India or not...?
Please suggest me the BEST EXCHANGE RATE PROVIDER IN DELHI 🙏.
Also let me know does he allowed to stay there for 21 days on a TOURIST VISA ( A-certification course generally takes this much time ) how to extend our Visa nad when to extend after reaching Thailand...? 😊.. Thankyou ❤..Jai Hind 🇮🇳
@HemanthReddyBharatiya Hi. Indian citizens are allowed to stay in Thailand for upto 60 days without a visa, provided they land there on or before November 11, 2024. My video on that: th-cam.com/video/94iJHKyoWUA/w-d-xo.html About the money, your friend may carry THB from India itself. This is the best money changer in Delhi and many other places in India: th-cam.com/video/0jRIrSan33w/w-d-xo.html At this money changer, buying THB will be cheaper compared to carrying USD and then changing to THB in Thailand.
@@desiyatri thankyou so much brother ❤️. It adds a lot of value to his 🧳 travel
@HemanthReddyBharatiya You are welcome 😊
Does anyone know if you can use digital card on phone at atm?
@Mary-xc2gu I don't have an answer to this, but hopefully, someone else does.
@desiyatri Thanks. My daughter is there now. Unfortunately she lost her card. No one has been able to help her. Hopefully she finds a way.
@Mary-xc2gu I don't have personal experience of using Western Union in Thailand, but perhaps you can try sending a remittance to your daughter through them. I think tourists can receive remittances after proving their identity at a Western Union location.
@@desiyatri Thank you, we'll try that!
@Mary-xc2gu Good luck 😊

@@desiyatriwhich card do you use while ur in Thailand for transaction.
@@desiyatri I have hdfc bank platinum debit card visa, if I enable international transaction, it will work in Thailand for atm to withdraw money, and if I used it will charged me to withdraw money in atm machine for per transaction rs 499 , I heard from one of the youtuber that niyox debit cards if we used then per transaction they charged rs 499, so I heard about forex card also charged per transaction rs something rs 220, so I'm confused whether I should used ny hdfc debit card for international transaction or buy new card for international transaction.
Sir how i transfer money to thailand
Hi. Do you want to make a bank transfer? If you are visiting Thailand, you can carry foreign currency upto 5000 USD with you. But for a bank transfer, you will need an account in Thailand, and then your bank will need to know the purpose of transferring the money. If you clarify what you want to do, maybe I can guide better.
Thx
@benjaminstemke3599 Hi. Glad you liked the video 😊
Fee from ATM is about US$7 or ₹585.
BallIdol2019 The Thai ATM will charge 220 Baht or 150 Baht depending on which bank's ATM you are using. Then the card issuing bank will add its own charges to the transaction.
so is it better to go into a bank ? less fees ?
Hi. I have no experience of that. Can't say how much a txn in a branch will cost, and whether such a txn is possible.
Every Krungsri ATM give you 30.000 THB.
@icke0077 Thanks for sharing 😊
i always withdraw 25 k ATM BKK BANK in hua hin /market village at realy good rate .and 220 baht charge .you have EON BANK /20 K max at 150 baht but wit bad exchange rate ..the scam about conversion is real insidious scam with some other banks like krung thai bank and co... you can loose up to 5 per cent on the forex rate . never go on it .and same at big C ..always say ..i pay in thai baht lol...
@louloufarangset You are right about Dynamic Currency Conversion. It is a scam, no matter which bank's ATM we are using. If the ATM offers DCC, the best course is to say no. I have used Kasikorn Bank's ATM for a few times now, and they never even offered DCC. I liked that. About AEON Bank, if we say no to DCC, and can manage with 20K, then it is the best.
Woah... 😮 ATM money eater...
exchange currency better 110,000 bhat
