If I'm not mistaken in the f-series it makes peak power 430, @5500 rpm.. as stated the way ford de-rates the van, and motorhome platforms is to cut fuel early, thus 350 hp around 4k.. a tune would really turn it into a beast of a motorhome.
Chris, do you think Ford will keep the 6.8-liter V10 and add double-overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, multi-variable cylinder and valve timing and direct fuel injection and efficiency?
I drove a brand new 26 foot box truck with that engine but it was the commercial version for medium-duty trucks. I think it's detuned for longevity. Sounded nice but it was a bit of a slug imo.
that thing's frickin' loud under acceleration, what a drag.....:-( the suspension crashes over sharp bumps like my 2005 Workhorse; I guess I can stop shopping for something new that would be quieter and smoother; and no it's not faster than the 8.1 GM engine.
@@VailJohnsontruthfully, I agree with you, I've driven both and worked on both. The 8.1 had more power and a smoother feel, but honestly if Ford let those vans rev out a little bit, the e series 7.3 has a different tune than the 7.3 in the new super duties, the Econoline only revs to about 4 grand. If it revved more, like the old 6.2s did it would feel peppier but right out of the box I'd say 8.1 Chevy is still a winner. Although the Ford does get slightly better gas mileage.
@@Zofirael lol, you're comparing 3-liter turbodiesel to a 7,3 v8, of course the first one is gonna be more fuel efficient, but then you don't have all the eco fuss, dpf, adblue, problematyczne egr. Plus in the us gas is cheaper than diesel.
Not to mention 5 star does a tune for these to give it 50 more Hp Ford cuts off fuel at 3,900 rpm but it still makes power up to 5,000 rpm

I work for a FedEx ground contractor, and we drive these modernized Fords e-series step vans, they drive and run very nicely
Same here. Very peppy, but the RPMS cruise a bit higher than I’d like, 2300 rpm at 65 seems to be a bit much for me.
wow what a power house !
I do hope that poor thing was warmed up.
Kind of like the way he says "it's not broke in yet" but romps on it like crazy.

0-60 MPH on a 2021 Ford E-450 cutaway 25 foot motorhome is 17.5 seconds and has a top speed of 100 MPH.
It is also in the Bluebird school bus
How is it climbing hills with load?

How does it do in the snow with only 2wd
Causally does 0-60mph in a 25ft motorhome in 7-8 seconds...dang
absolutely untrue; 10 or 11 seconds....maybe?

Hope you had the owners permission to thrash a new engine that was not broken in.
Not cool.
Actually just properly breaking it in. Many manufacturers run a dyno pull right at the end of the line.
Exactly how you break one in
"So we just sold this" ...and now that it's been paid for, let's abuse it! 🙀
What size Class C Motorhome was this in?
It was a Freelander 22XG which is about 24 feet overall. 👍
The Coachmen Cross Trail XL also has this in it. Models range from 22 - 30 feet.
Is it a rear wheel drive or front wheel?
Rear wheel, no motorhome is front wheel
Hey Jomer, it is rear wheel drive. Thanks!
