@@4rnorthwest Thanks. I just ordered 4 sheets of steel and a 2x3 tube for $577 delivered 50 miles. I think materials is about to hit $1000 right before paint on this bed. It's going to be a challenge moving plates as I have no helper.

I work for my local steel yard part time so I get wicked deals on my materials and use of all the equipment! But hey, necesity is the annoying neighbor of invention! So use rollers, levers, chain hoists, whatever it takes! But have your phone handy incase you get pinned under a sheet ya! What size and gauge sheets are you dealing with?
@@4rnorthwest I have a fork lift that will place them where I need them. I will do some minor trimming and then try to slide them onto flat bed frame. I will try filming this see how it goes. I wanted to get a small electric winch to help me pull them up.
Andrew Browner actually there was one commenter that ruined everything by telling me to put a guard on my angle grinder😂 I can paint a self portrait with an angle grinder! I’ll be fine. That guard is for people that like things getting in their way and don’t understand rotational kick back and pinch points🙄

But if the odometer still works, then it's the speedo gauge 'needle' return-spring (it's 'popped' off its mount or is broken). Search and check Y/T for vids on this subject to get more details about the fix. It's nice to have a working speedo !!

Theres a lot of tacking going on for sure! followed up with laying down longer lines. We had ton of footage making a "lots of fun" to narrow it all down to 20 minutes! But theres nothing more boring than watching someone weld the same thing over and over again in real time! hence editing. Thanks for watching!
hey guys i have the same year toyota and thinking about doing the same thing but also have a one ton toyota thinking about putting them both together and making a short bed one ton my question is how much does it cost to powder coat your flatbed would like to do that too but dont know if i can afford it thanks for any info
First of all, HELL YA! make em both flatbeds! The one ton, make it a hydraulic dump bed too! Hydraulic kits are inexpensive to do yourself relative to the cost of HAVING it done for you. Now to you actual question: powder coating IS cool and it IS durable. Is it necessary? Well, NO. Not really. You could absolutely spray or roll your own rust inhibitor paint coating for maybe $200 done right by you. At the time we did this project it was $300 to have it done. As you saw for yourself the results are worth every penny! At least they were. Now, after the pandemic inflation pricing have likely gone up 1.5 times! I run a steel yard and we handle the steel scrap from that company (they also build truck racks) so I know the boys there and can swing a deal. In fact, I’m working on another fab video building a F250 truck bed cage system for a friends landscaping business and will be using the powder coasters services yet again. So, if you do it yourself, there are great products out there and when it comes to paint you get what you pay for. That’s why powder coating is “expensive”. At my steel yard we sell a product called Zero Rust and our customers swear by it! A gallon also cost $115! Hope this helps and best of luck on your project. There’s more than one way to skin a cat and about 100 ways to fuck up a paint job!😂
@@4rnorthwest the one ton is just a parts truck its too far gone was just gonna make a short bed one ton outta both i bought them both from a dairy farmer for 350 dollars the 94 like your dads runs like a top 4cyl 5 spd the other is v6 auto but doesnt run and just rusted out too bad yeah i was thinking about a dump bed too but didnt know how expensive it would be im just an old mechanic on social security that works two days a week cause if i work any more than that they just take it like working for free you guys live at top of oregon i live at bottom little town called myrtle point i just enjoy building weird stuff that nobody has seen like my other rig is a first gen mitsubishi montero with a four cyl diesel and ive watched your video probably 100 times you and your dad crack me up and your instructions are made so easy that anyone could understand even if they knew nothing about rigs and the plus is my rig is the exact same thing as your dads and happy late mothers day to your mom if she is still with us the only reason i say that is mine is in heaven watching over us and dont worry im not a bible thumper LMFAO

Eddie Price well thank you Eddie for your interest! The tubular steel frame if memory serves me 1.5”x4” .120 wall thickness. The ladder framing was1.5” .095 square tubular. The diamond plate was 1/8” think I think. Taillights were LED 13volt trailer lights off amazon. To prevent overflash from the blinker relay on the turn signals you’ll need an in-line regulator/resistor on each taillight to the blinker. They’re available on Amazon also. Fairly inexpensive and well worth it. Hope that helps and thank you for watching!

I did not expect flat sheets to weight a total of 999lbs. I think my truck will level out now with all the weight.

@@4rnorthwest the one ton is just a parts truck its too far gone was just gonna make a short bed one ton outta both i bought them both from a dairy farmer for 350 dollars the 94 like your dads runs like a top 4cyl 5 spd the other is v6 auto but doesnt run and just rusted out too bad yeah i was thinking about a dump bed too but didnt know how expensive it would be im just an old mechanic on social security that works two days a week cause if i work any more than that they just take it like working for free you guys live at top of oregon i live at bottom little town called myrtle point i just enjoy building weird stuff that nobody has seen like my other rig is a first gen mitsubishi montero with a four cyl diesel and ive watched your video probably 100 times you and your dad crack me up and your instructions are made so easy that anyone could understand even if they knew nothing about rigs and the plus is my rig is the exact same thing as your dads and happy late mothers day to your mom if she is still with us the only reason i say that is mine is in heaven watching over us and dont worry im not a bible thumper LMFAO

I know this video is a few months old but hopefully I can get a reply back anyway... Can you please tell me the dimensions of the steel you used? Did you use steel diamond plate? Also, where did you get those tail lights? I hope to hear back, great job on the project!
Eddie Price well thank you Eddie for your interest! The tubular steel frame if memory serves me 1.5”x4” .120 wall thickness. The ladder framing was1.5” .095 square tubular. The diamond plate was 1/8” think I think. Taillights were LED 13volt trailer lights off amazon. To prevent overflash from the blinker relay on the turn signals you’ll need an in-line regulator/resistor on each taillight to the blinker. They’re available on Amazon also. Fairly inexpensive and well worth it. Hope that helps and thank you for watching!
