    Hey man
First time watcher and a new subscrober after watching this video and you explain in super detail which makes a non techie like myself understand something new very easy so thank you for that 🙏
    I have a question
Is there an anamorphic lens for my GoPro 10 that I can buy that DOESN'T have that glare look at all?
I like the cinematic look but without the glare
    Thank you 😊

      Hi Brian,
      I really appreciate your comment.
In regards to your question: all anamorphic lenses have the glare (you mean the light reflection in form of horizontal line going form the light source, right?) even the once for different cameras (like DSLR, mirroless or cinema cameras, or rather anamorphic lenses for those cameras).
That’s been said there is another anamorphic lense made for GoPro by a different company but as I said earlier it will still have the glare (flares).
If you want cinematic footage without the flares from the lense, the solution is to look into ND filters. GoPro sells ND lifers made by PolarPro: they are called ‘Shutter Collection’ and are made originally for GoPro Hero 9 and they are fully compatible with GoPro Hero 10.
You get ND8, 16 and 32 in the set (depending on the light conditions you have to choose the appropriate one).
They created in essence the cinematic footage by us setting the manual shutter speed in our camera settings (in accordance to the rule of doubling the shutter speed by looking at the frames per second that we are filming at e.g. if you film in 24 fps your shutter speed should be at least 1/48 (or 1/50 on some other cameras).
I have those ND filters form PolarPro and I am going to make a video/review of them in some time (I am away from home at the moment and I left them there).
      Regards!

Nice... And anybody used this lens with an ND filter?

    • @lasomathletics
      @lasomathletics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I was going to used it with the ND filter, but if you watch my video carefully you will see (and hear) that there is really no need for ND filter with the rights settings. Shutter speed: Auto, EV Competition: -1,5 (especially for outdoor environment/sunny)

You need to make sure that the GoPro stabilisation is off (that means: hypersmooth off and use only linear NOT linear + horizon lock).
      Then everything is perfect ☝️

I wanted to see the anamorphic but you made some other great points too about shutter speed. Everyone wants to put ND filters on the front of this thing and treat it like a true mirrorless or cinema camera. That is not what the gopro was made to do. At that point once again you kill the stabilization so why the hell at that point do you care about motion blur. Oh wait, lets solve that by throwing it on a gimbal. At what point should a person have just bought a regular camera to work with instead of trying to make the gopro what its not? Even with anamorphic you cant change depth of field. If I am going to destroy stabilization I am going directly for anamorphic and dont care about the rest.

      Thanks for your comment.
Based on my experience I say now this: use GoPro with a stock lens (UV filter on it, the stock one) and rather lock the exposure on screen when needed.
I use sometimes the Polar Pro ND filters on GoPro but not on top of the anamorphic lens. It’s ok to use the NDs in specific situations.
BTW anamorphic lens is quite cool add on to the GoPro if you want to play with some cinematic effects (flares, wide angle etc.).

@@lasomathletics I might try the Polar Pro FX3 pack on it to keep the functionality. My thought being put it into superview or wide and then in post put it on a cinescope timeline. I have a mini 3 pro too, which can handle being anamorphic better due to being a gimbal, hand hold it if needed. Your video was very informative. I love the look of anamorphic, even if you have to fake it in post. Its not like thats uncommon, lots of big producers shoot on spherical lenses and do the same thing. On these small cameras we are missing some of the best parts such as the bokah. I find it odd in some videos others talk about how it has focus fall off and all i can think is... exactly thats part of being anamorphic!
Anyhow, appreciate the response, keep on creating!
