The crazy part is how the events of this episode set up so many plot points for the future. Ferdinand's past, why is his cape blue, the basics of combat, the knights order, the introduction of two major characters, the existence of the lord, a peek into the ranks of nobility, more aspects of magic, potions, and next episode shows the true purpose of blue priests. If you think the story has shifted them you better buckle up for the new season that is coming soon.
This Episode we meet Damuel and Shikikoza. Plenty of people have already mentioned the joke behind his name, so I'll skip it. Damuel was originally going to be called Samuel, but when she was typing his name the first time, the author hit the wrong key and typed D instead of S. Rather than correct the typo, she decided to keep it, and made that his official name.
True. The only isekai anime where it explain clearly how that world society operate and their relationship with each class. They also try to give a distinct difference between their flora fauna from our world
3:40 Good Idea but it wouldn't work. Main stated earlier that the saplings they use are perfect due to their flexible/springy nature. This overgrown one is far harder and lacks most of the properties she would need to make paper.
i love how bookworm start like small spiral from the middle with most important stuff but as it draw itself around with more and more events it is getting bigger and faster every time and then you realise it is running at full speed just like myne in 3rd season opening
6:40 It just shows that Main is counting on Lutz. Of course he cannot help her in any way, so it is ridiculous from usability side, but very important from emotional side.
@6:55 This is actually a thing that those with mana can do, for a full explanation continue to the spoiler . . . (also including spoiler stuff about our green haired jerk) . . . . . . . . . . What happened here is call the "Last testament." When someone with mana is on the verge of death, they sometimes broadcast their final moments of life ending peril to the person most dear to them. The effect is that it is a final distress call for help from the one most dear to them. It's done sub-consciously and in nearly all cases does not actually change the fate of the one sending the request for help, which is why it's called the "Last testament." As for the jerk who created this situation, this is Shikikoza (when read in the original kanji, it spells "small-fry knight" backwards). He's originally of a med-noble family and son of a second wife, however, because of his low mana capacity, he was sent to the Temple. After the civil war and purge, he was given the opportunity to return to noble society. While in the Temple, he was one of Evil Santa's sycophants and shares similar views. It's because of his family's status, he's able to order Damuel around as he's of a lower social status. Also being a former blue priest, he takes particular offense to Myne wearing the blue robes meant for nobility knowing she's just a commoner, which is why he's bullying her to the level he is in this episode.
The plant paper needs the soft, fresh sprouts. The moment a Trombe grows to the point that it needs adult commoners to cut down, it's already past the point of being turned into paper and when it's this monsterous... just forget it. It's good material for furnishings though, since it's very hard and fire-resistent. Funfact: Shikikoza are the syllables of zako kishi reversed, which means "smallfry knight" in Japanese. The author had a lot of fun with some of the names, both anagrams like this one and pseudo-translations from other languages, primarily German. Like the high priest for example, who's name it Bezewanst, with beze being how you'd translocate Böse (evil) into Japanese and Wanst being the word for a fat belly in various German dialects. So his name is pretty much "Evil Potbelly" or soemthing close to it. ^^ Green hair is a bad sign? Effa and Tuuli also have green hair... Oh that thing... that beacon that Main sent to Lutz will be explained... eventually, in like... 30 or so volumes of the novel later, so about... I don't know, season 15 maybe? There were Trombe seeds all over the place near the big one, but dormant in the ground. When Main's blood dripped down, the mana in it, made those seeds go into a turbo-growth spurt and the moment they made contact with her skin, they began absorbing her mana directly, making them grow even more and became nigh-on indestructable to anything that doesn't absorb mana, like weapons with the god of darkness blessing. So the fight kind of became a tug of war, between the Trombes' ability to suck mana from Main and the black weapons' ability to drain the mana from the plants, not made easier by their need to not even scratch the girl, since blood would have fed the Trombes more mana than just contact with her skin already did. Had Shikikoza hurt a commoner in any other circumstance, he'd have walked off scotts-free, so that wasn't the issue. But he not just disregarded, but straight up broke the orders of two of his superiors, both of whom are also archnobles, while he is only a mednoble. Once Ferdinand and Karstedt had given the order to protect Main, it ceased to matter whether she was a noble, a commoner or someone's pet animal. On top of that, by his actions Shikikoza further endangered the other members of the knights order and their mission... not to mention besmurched their honour. He fucked up BADLY. Just how badly, would be spoilers, so let's keep that quiet for now.
@@MedusaLegend Morally speaking yes, but I was talking from a purely legal standpoint. In their world nobles can do almost anything they please to commoners, without breaking any law.

Ascendence of a Bookworm is legitimately my favorite Isekai. The world building is so engaging I couldn’t help but to pick up the books. I honestly think the only reason it isn’t considered so is because it wasn’t really advertised that well and the starting pitch to the series isn’t that compelling. But TRUST ME when I say soon you will be yearning for the simplicity of “A grown woman in a child body wants to make books”.
It came out in the same season as Dr. Stone and Bofuri, it got over shadow, but it happened to be TO book's flagship title so we're getting a 4th season
14:08 oooh boy, it is far from resolved lol. Unironically, this is the start of a VERY long Ferdinand headache that will not be cleared anytime soon lol. 16:12, these little end-of-episode blurbs sometimes are stylized adaptations of conversations characters have had in the books, there is plenty of casual conversation happening usually :) 16:54, Bookworm is one of the highest rated LNs out there, genuinely regarded as one of if not the best series when it comes to worldbuilding. It is also generally well received for character interaction and plot consistency. However, it's just not 'mainstream' popular. The main reason mushoku, slime, and Re: Zero top it is simply because Bookworm's core genre and premise is just not as popular. It starts off as a slice of life series featuring a sick kid in a fantasy medieval society wanting to read books. Not a super engaging concept to get into for most. Its pretty hard to top an action adventure story :/ . A failure of a man seeking to use his newfound second chance at life to right all the wrong things about himself and live a fulfilling new life? A salaryman reincarnating as the fantasy trope's weakest monster wanting to build the world's first Monster nation (ngl i don't know much after he becomes a demon lord, and dont remember too much beforehand)? A normal human experiencing brutal misery over and over again to overcome herculean challenges for the person he loves? These concepts are just innately more appealing to your average viewer, not to say that I don't enjoy them To put things into perspective, we're basically still in the story's prologue in terms of what Myne has done, learned, and has been shown. We haven't even dug into the meat and potatoes of the story. Effectively, we just started peeling the taters and haven't even lit the stove yet.
Dude... remember... light novels play the long game... not all the fallout of each character's actions happens in the same book... sometimes it takes a couple of volumes for stuff that happens to come back...
yeah, this just shows Kazukis talent for worldbuilding again. Everything that happens is actually important even if it doesn't look like it at first or not getting mentioned for some time because Myne doesn't have the necessary knowledge or interest.
