    Well done, back to back reviews of two bikes in the same category, I sold my 1200 GS 2 years ago when I moved out to France, like you say its a perfect tourer but also great fun on the twisties in the Alps. Rode this 1250 GS last year when the my nearest dealer got one in, in France you are only allowed an hour for the demo ride but wow that bit more performance is just what it needed as I was going to purchase an XR but I think now its going to be the 1250 GS. That said I think the Triumph is a better buy! the Triumph has a better spec (the XRT v TE) but I think its weight and overheating is an issue, also you cant buy the Tiger low as an XRT so I reckon Triumph have shot themselves in the foot. Anyway thanks for your review.

    Very nice review, Mark! There is nothing quite like the boxer when she fires up! These are now a highly refined performance engine that will do it all and do it superbly. Long gone are the clunky gutless leaky noisy boxer engines.....but even those had personality IMHO

    Good review - liked your coverage on the bike. ….. I just watched your review of the 1260 Multistrada. Like that one too. I know they are different bikes, but if you could only have one, which did you like better. You seem to have really enjoyed the 1260. The throttle response on the 1260 appeared to be much quicker, but there is more to it than speed. So, do you have a preference and if so, what is it?

    • @markpulling12
      @markpulling12  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi john ,I think the multistrada is more raw noisy and a bit more fun than the BMW ,BMW is a more polished refined all round motorcycle,it's a tough call as they are both amazing !! For me personally I'd take the multistrada just because of its booming v twin character but still a great tourer ,others may prefer the boxer flat twin,so many amazing bikes out there at the moment all the best mark

    The problem with the Tiger is that they are top heavy. If youre only riding a Tiger, you wouldn't notice it. But jump on a Tenere 1200, AT or a GS and the difference is immediately apparent. Triumph needs to make a proper twin engine adv...

    Nice review. I’ve got one on order, sold my tiger for it. Astonishing bike, and I’ve always disliked boxers. This one, with the shiftcam and electronic sus adjustment just works so well. Massively better than the tiger. Much better than the 1200gs, which I’d never have bought. Couple of tiny errors in the review. The HP is diff from the te. And shift cam isn’t just operated on revs, but throttle position as well.

    • @markpulling12
      @markpulling12  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the corrections terry :) just was told at the dealership that the hp is similar spec to the te ,but yes im sure there are a few differences all the best mark

    • @samsara3694
      @samsara3694 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ terryjohnbaker. In the UK, there are 3 TE variants: the TE, the Exclusive TE, and the Rallye TE. (You can also purchase a non-TE Rallye). Very little difference between the TE variants, other than colourways. The Rallye, for example, has rad guards, enduro style pegs and sports screen (not on this bike), but other than this is the same as the other TEs. Where they can substantially differ is some of the available options; in particular, you can option sports suspension on the Rallye for increased off-road handling.
      Given that there's very little difference in the 1200 TE and the 1250 TE, other than the engine along with a couple of minor upgrades (dynamic brake control and auto rather than manual hill hold, plus the Hayes rather than Brembo front brake), I can't quite figure why the shift cam technology would be your defining choice. Sure, it's an improvement in terms of smoother sound, smoother revs lower in the rev range and a bit more torque, but not so much a difference that the 1200 engine is some sort of deal-breaker? Most reviews concur that if you had a 1200 already there's not enough here to get you to upgrade.

    • @markpulling12
      @markpulling12  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samsara3694 very nicely put :)

    • @terryjohnbaker
      @terryjohnbaker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, @@samsara3694, each version of the 1250 has a TE version as you say.
      I'm not sure if you've ridden both bikes? 15% more torque, lots smoother, more power everywhere, better economy - what's not to like? The overtake at 12 minutes of the Bennetts comparison ( th-cam.com/video/5WgugJQmRJA/w-d-xo.html ) shows the difference pretty well, and this is certainly what I felt in my day of trying them out. Don't dismiss the extra smoothness either; call me an old softie but when I'm traveling hundreds of miles a day, any extra smoothness is very welcome. I find the 1250 almost miraculously smooth and civilised.
      I'm afraid a few reviews (not all) saying there's little to be gained from trading up don't mean much to me. To be honest I can't see why anyone would seek to make that value judgement on behalf of someone else - we've al got different views on what makes the perfect bike. In any case the relevant comparison for me isn't between the 1200gs and the 1250gs but between the 1250gs and the 1260 multistrada. In my view, the 1250gs just about shades that one, although there are some distinct advantages of the MS, like the service intervals, more power and red paint. But both are incredibly capable, fast bikes and either would be a joy to own. And I'm sure the 1200 gs is very nice, but just slightly lacks excitement for me.

    • @samsara3694
      @samsara3694 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@terryjohnbaker yes terry, I have. I understand the points you are making around smoothness and torque (though to note, whilst a more flexible engine is always welcome, it doesn't make the bike significantly faster through the gears). Personally, as I say, I can't square the changes as being factors that would make one now decide to go with the GS over another choice of large adv. But we all have our focus points I guess. Personally, I'd go for the 1290 or 1200 over the MS any day: but that's me. Ideally, I'd have every single one of them in my garage!

    Of the 2 the GS IMO is the bike that will suit more riders needs than the Tiger 1200. If you're a big bloke and want to travel 2 up round Europe then the Tiger would probably have the edge, but now especially with the 1250 engine the GS has a better power to weight ratio as the 2 are more or less identical power wise but the GS is quite a bit lighter and will be the better option most of the time. If the current Tiger is the same as the Exploder then residuals will be poor too, but in honesty neither bike will be exactly cheap to run.

    Heheeeee, another review. Good one this. For me BMW would have nailed it with this bike if they had given this new GS1250 150 - 160bhp to beat the Triumph Tiger 1200 and be a real rival to the KTM 1290SA. I believe the GS is the most expensive of the three. The TE Adventure spec is around £18k isn't it? Also I find the sound of the Boxer engine a little saccharine even maybe boring ......... sacrilege! The engines of the triple in the Triumph Tiger 1200 and twin of the KTM 1290 SA sound better imho. Any chance you can get your hands on the KTM to review which would make a nice series of reviews of these adventure bikes? I know you like the Ducati Multistrada as well so maybe that as well?
    I do like the colour scheme of this bike though. Reminds me of the Honda Africa Twin with gold wheels. Such a shame the Honda CRF1000L AT is not quite in the same league as these bikes although still a capable bike. Honda don't even give it cruise control. How mental is that?

    I still think this is the only real choice if taking the adventure route, has it all. Triumph seems like a pale imitation to me, others have chain drive.

    Love the idea of BMW making a lower smaller powerful motorcycle for smaller/shorter riders? LOL. Dream about a new K100R thing. YAH !!

    I have been lucky enough to own both the triumph 1200 xrt and now the 1250 hp, for me the bmw is better in every way, unfortunately the triumph gets very hot and is a lot heavier to handle. my triumph also suffered from irritating vibes and a horrible front end howl which was probably more tyre related

    I simply can't figure out why would someone prefer this machine to a beauty called Tiger....

    • @patmick1
      @patmick1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Because it's a better motorcycle. Try riding both and you will see, the only thing the 'exploder' has over the GS in my opinion is the electric screen. The triumph is very hot and very top heavy.

      Because the triumph is ugly and the build quality is poor, no comparison between the triumph and the bmw. Yes I’ve had an explorer never again .
