- Daniel Earl Hartman (December 8, 1950 - March 22, 1994) was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Among songs he wrote and recorded were "Free Ride" with the Edgar Winter Group, and the solo hits "Relight My Fire", "Instant Replay", "I Can Dream About You", "We Are the Young" and "Second Nature". "I Can Dream About You", his most successful song, reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984 and No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart in 1985. The James Brown song "Living in America", which Hartman co-wrote and produced, reached No. 4 on March 1, 1986.

Thank you top pop for uploading such a fantastic treasure of 70s, 80s iconic solid gold music that can never be repeated. Fond memories of music we enjoyed in the 70s. A wonderful timecastle of great quality that will continue to stand the test of time. Thank God to be a part of that generation that enjoyed a wonderful decade of music and entertainment.

Dan Hartman wrote and sang a number of songs like 'Free Ride' when he was in Edgar Winter Group
And had a bunch of disco and top-40 hits in the late 1970's and early 1980's.
He also wrote and produced hits for other artists like 'Living in America' for James Brown form the ROCKY 4 soundtrack.
Dan Hartman doesn't get the credit that he is due - except from his fellow musicians and performers who still acknowledged Dan's massive talent.
Dan died in 1993 - too soon.
In happier times, used to think of this song as 'Instant Freeplay.' ...And How I lived up to that way back when !

I've always been a big fan of Dan Hartman but this one sounds more like the Leo Sayers song "You Make me Feel Like Dancing." Changing styles is the nature of the music business and Dan was in it to win it. However I am partial to the soul-rock of songs like "Free Ride" from his Edgar Winter days and the later hit "I Can Dream About You."
