Great story! Back in late 1985, my dad came to pick me up at college for Thanksgiving break. Expecting him to show up in his ‘82 Eldorado, I nearly fell over when I saw the 1986 Guards Red NA 944 he arrived in. The car was stunning, with 16” Grand Prix white Fuchs. I couldn’t believe he traded in the Cadillac for the Porsche. He daily drove it, always telling people about the fun that came from downshifting from third to second, and pushing the car on backroads. Whenever I was home from school I’d detail the car, carefully getting as much brake dust off those beautiful wheels (Lots of P21s). Five years later, when he was done with the car, there was no way I could afford it, and off it went to a new owner. I loved that car and knew someday I’d have my own. It took 30 years, but over this past summer I found a 1986 Guards Red NA 944 at the right price. From what we remember of delivery dates, my dad’s car was built 10/85, same as mine. Sitting in my 944 for the first time brought me back decades. Unfortunately dad is in the early stages of dementia now and no longer drives. But if he could, I know he’d want to drop it from third to second and get on the gas.
Awesome story. I have two 944’s, have had one of them for 25 years now. Great drivers cars you can really drive hard on public roads without endangering everyone😆 I found even 17” wheels really mess up the ride and full the acceleration on the NA’s. Can only imagine what the 19’s do. They look great but if you find a nice set of 16’s you will get back a bit more compliance and performance. Unfortunately that’s a tough offset for an 85.5 but rejoice because Fuchs fit 👍
Thanks! We have been working on a set of smaller wheels. We had a full set of staggered turbo twists that came with the car that were in the middle of having the paint removed. Working on getting those repainted. 17’s will be way better than the massive 19’s that are on there now. Always keeping an eye out for a set of Fuchs.
Great story but....do remember that Porsche is a 2 syllable word, as it was drilled into me when I worked for the UK HQ of Porsche. A German guy from euro HQ came over and said the first thing you must understand is that Porsche is a 2 syllable word, like Porsch-a. "If you say Porsch, you will be fired!", he said in his German accent, clicking his heels....
What rims are those? I have 993 Cup 2 but the rims on that car are kinda growing on me. Also, love the 85.5 I think those are going to be one of the "rarer" ones in the future.

@@halefalling Well it definitely effects the ride quality It is super hard. So not ideal in all conditions certainly I have 17s im about to try to address that! and I'm sure its off by at least 5
