An interesting note on the balancer shaft system is that while it’s sometimes mentioned that Porsche licensed the use of said system for the 944 from Mitsubishi Motors, who had refined and patented the system in the state we see it in these cars, it’s not often talked about that the concept was initially pioneered and patented by Lanchester Motor Company of England in 1907. The main difference being that the early Lanchester design featured two balancer weights driven by a single shaft on the same horizontal plane. Mitsubishi improved upon the design by positioning one shaft higher than the other and introduced it on the Astron 80 in 1975. Porsche dabbled with their own design for a bit as well, but I guess the R&D cost involved in developing their own design outweighed the cost of simply licensing a proven and established concept.
My friends dad has a black 944 in his garage and he talked about it so I looked it up and now I’m in love. If I could get this as my first car I would be so honored and happy.
I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR! Sorry for the caps, but I mean in a literal sense…THIS exact car. I bought your 944 and I can’t believe I stumbled on this video. In my fun TH-cam searching for 944 videos, one of the first videos I find is this one and I’m so exited to see MY car (I got it at Porsche St Paul) ! I’d love to talk with you guys about it if it’s even possible. This is so funny! I’ll take good care of it, I promise.
That is super exciting!!!! You are absolutely going to LOVE it! We don’t know where you hale from, but we are down in the metro area fairly often and would love to meet up!! Send us an email at turn5ive@gmail.com and we can keep in touch! Let’s go for a drive and a cup of coffee in the spring! Congrats on the purchase! When we meet up we can share the history that we know so that the story will continue! Thank you very much for your support!
@@Turn5ive This is so fun! I live in southeast Wisconsin, but will happily make a summer road trip up. I just signed the papers today, and it gets delivered late next week. So I haven’t even driven it yet! Your videos are helping ease my eagerness. Thanks guys, and yeah, I’ll email you!
My daughter is about to buy a 944 with 180,000 miles😳 but it has all the papers on maintenance, well kept and is driven daily. Is it still worth it with the high miles?
The 944 has a very strong engine and the cars are reliable. If you are concerned about the car you can get a pre purchase inspection to know if that specific car is worth purchasing.
@@Turn5ive Your argument on why the 944 is a good ride is definitely on the back of my mind! I guess it depends on what I can find as my main focus is on a well taken care of vehicle. Cheers! 👍
If you are referring to the shaky camera work we were not drunk but had just gotten a new camera and needed to adjust some settings. Thank you for your support!

I used to have a 1984 944, sadly was rear ended and it was a write off. I miss that car dearly.
They are super fun cars! We are sorry to hear yours got rear ended.
If I recall, they said it’s low on power and not that fast… But it’s fun to drive? 🤔
It is low on power compared to a modern vehicle but you can use all of the power on a regular basis. It also corners amazingly!
I just bought my 2nd 944 a few weeks ago. A 1987 in Malvern Red with 40,000 miles.
That is a great choice! Thank you for your support!
Cheers guys 👍
I'm debating on this car or a 914! Hmmm! 😜 Great Video! 👍👍
I would say that we are biased to the 944 but both are excellent choices! Thank you for your support!
