    Sorry it's only a photo slideshow folks, back to proper filming for the next one! Hopefully it was interesting anyway?

      I thought this was great, slideshow is just fine. You were not demonstrating anything that required a video explanation. I think just giving an overview the way you did had a good story arc and I appreciated the video. Had me remembering some of the discussion we had on various parts of the build over on Emma’s Discord. It turned out amazing and please keep up the great work! A lot of the interest is just seeing you succeed and continue growing!

      I enjoyed your commentry, and there were enough pictures to show the key parts of the process. A really good video in my opinion.

      @@ollysworkshop Thanks Olly, I appreciate that. I lost some of the early footage, and then when I had problems with the drawers I decided it was going to be a below-par video, so I put the video camera down entirely. In the end, the only coherent version I could make was the photos I had taken throughout (a habit of mine). Tried to make up for the lack of interesting video by putting a voiceover on top! Worked out fairly well, but I much prefer using video footage so I will try not to rely on the photos again. Thanks again mate. 👍

    Hello Craig,
    That is a super nice table. I like the drawers for the stock and the clamp rail... most of what you need in one location.
    Take care.

      Thanks Tom. When it was just the table, I used to be just about able to pick one side up off the floor, now it's loaded with materials, it's about twice as heavy, and I can't move it at all. That's a plus for sure. (Pallet jack is close-handy though if I need to move it)

    I hope one of the mods you're referring to are adjustable feet. Thanks for sharing, Craig, that looks to be a beast of a table.

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is one of the mods yes. I have some 20mm threaded rod here and would like to make some nice swivel feet and threaded mounts so these feet can sit under each side rail in the four corners.

    You need to put heavy duty table wheels to make it look so cool

  • @paulpipitone8357
    @paulpipitone8357 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow it looks great..... You will need to become a double Black Belt to chop steel. LOL.... Are you thing about picking up a bangood Mag Drill, to drill for some hold downs? it may make work holding easier. Once Again the shop is looking so good and what a fantastic job on the table....

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure about the mag drill. Trying to keep costs down! The slides and flat bar have cost a lot more than planned. Maybe! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

  • @Preso58
    @Preso58 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job Craig. Are you considering fixture holes in the top?

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mark! I have thought about fixture holes, and that would be great for a welding table, (I could make suitable clamps) but really I need a mag drill and annular cutters to make the holes,, and that is not in the budget at present!

    • @Preso58
      @Preso58 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CraigsWorkshop I bought one of those old drill press accessories with a lever operated spring plunger arrangement for portable electric drills at a second hand store. I am planning to discard the base and make a plate that can be bolted to a single hole in the welding table top and then index each hole a fixed increment. My bench is only 8mm thick though. I am thinking 10mm diameter holes would be sufficient. 25mm might be a struggle with one like I have. You can hire mag drills and if my plan doesn't work out that is what I will do.

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a very good idea, I like the resourcefulness of that. I think annular cutters have a lower cutting force than a twist drill, so if the unit is rigid enough to hold the cutter on axis, it could be "pressed" into service!

  • @ironhead65
    @ironhead65 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    that’s a good idea with the fire blanket for controlling the angle grinder dust. Any idea what material that blanket is made from? I think I’d like to make one

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure yes it is a fire blanket that comes folded in a red pouch (for purchasing purposes) and it is some kind of tightly woven fibreglass from what I can make out. 👍 I have also used it as a welding screen to a) prevent people/animals seeing the arc and b) prevent the wind from blowing my shielding gas away. It is very useful.

    Beefy table! I have to make a similar C calmp storage. Do you have any thoughts regarding which would be better, Round or square stock?

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I don't think it makes a big difference round vs square. All I would say is mock something up first in your vise, with the clamps you have. Some do not play well with being hung up like that. I can't remember how many clamps I have on there but there are a couple where I just need to touch the clamp and it falls off. Most are fine. I will just braze on a bit of an extra jaw pad on the troublesome ones though. 👍

  • @tandb
    @tandb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you determine the right height for a welding table?

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, I think you probably need to factor in your height, and your average workpiece size, and use trial and error, with existing surfaces, and/or sawhorses with a surface attached.
      In my case though - I knew I wanted it to match the other two workbenches in the workshop, and those are sized as follows. An 100mm engineering vise on top should have the top at about elbow height, so that sawing or filing keeps your forearm horizontal. That happens to also translate over to a good welding bench height for me too.
      In an ideal world, adjustable height bench!

    • @tandb
      @tandb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cheap version of adjustable height bench is a collection of different size boxes to stand on.

    sand blasting wasn't possible for you. love the Dog we had a Blue dog Kelpie cross bitch very very inteligent. Loved the vid.

    • @CraigsWorkshop
      @CraigsWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Gary. I do have a tiny sandblast cabinet, and also a sandblast gun that can be used in open air, but I don't have any abrasive-friendly spaces outside that would suit the use of the sandblast gun. I guess I could make a tent around the table, but - it's a pretty unpleasant job. We got it done though, and the table has been rust free ever since! Thanks for watching.
