hmmmm, Colin Farrel said in his own description that The Killing of a Sacred Deer
was like the nightmares the characters in The Lobster would have,
which is the same writer/director as Sacred Deer as well as Colin Farrel in the lead role.
That being said its not like your spoiling the other movie, its just that The Lobster was released first and they are *kind of* in the same universe.
      In the same headspace.

Oldboy is based on a manga with the same name but its also is a telling of the old Greek storytelling of catharsism. With the story of Oedipus Rex hence the name of the protaganist Oh Dae Su who is a man that kills his father marries his mother and upon discovering this fact stabs both his eyes out (Oh Dae Su cuts his own tongue). This movie is also part of a trilogy being the 2nd movie, the third one is my favourite Sympathy for lady vengeance!!! And the ost is so good, Korean movies are the best!!

It's not like that. The original manga has a different color from the movie. The original manga does not have the violence and narrative like a movie. The original manga is not much different from an ordinary thriller. This is a movie full of Park Chan-wook.

How the style mirrors the motif of the painting in Dae Sues cell with the man that cries and laughs the same time. The movie is brutal and ugly but at the same time it has such a beautiful art style and music. The whole editing is going so well with the story, its mindblowing. There is beauty in everything that is terrible in this movie. What a masterpiece. I have seen it in 2003 and recently i saw it with my girlfriend. It is absolutely timeless.

Enjoyed your reaction! While I love the movie and have seen it 3-4 times total, I've been unable to choose to watch it again for like the last 10 years, essentially for the same feeling you had at the end of it: It really is emotionally draining and like, mentally disturbing.
It didn't make me feel this way after my last watch but over time, it's sort of gotten into that Requiem For a Dream category for me of movies I truly enjoyed and appreciate the craft of, but can do without ever watching again. Lol.

It's not like that. The original manga has a different color from the movie. The original manga does not have the violence and narrative like a movie. The original manga is not much different from an ordinary thriller. This is a movie full of Park Chan-wook. Some of the Old Boy scenes are homages to classic noir or hitchcock films.

so, there's a list of films I made for myself, sort of unofficial trilogy if you will on a theme of love and hate. and all of the movies on this list are emotionally raw and intense and go progressively more crazy as the list goes. and the list is:
    1 - OldBoy [2003]
2 - Balada triste de trompeta (The Last Circus in US) [2010]
    3 - Possession [1981]
I highly recommend to watch all of these in that exact order. the last one is so overcharged with intense emotions that I had to pause a few times to have a breather.
also, fun fact - Tarantino was in the jury at Cannes for the screening of both the OldBoy and Balada. he gave Balada a standing ovation while OldBoy surprised him, by making him shed tears for the antagonist.

    • @DonGeritch
      @DonGeritch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

and a bonus recommendation - The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover [1989]
I don't include it in the 'trilogy' because (besides it wouldn't be a trilogy anymore) stylistically it's a totally different beast - like a mix of a theatre play and a renaissance painting come to life. but thematically and dramatically it fits well. great film.
