I must say I really like how the solo game is so much calmer experience focused on collection/unlocking. I would probably like to see a second solo mode that would replicate the multiplayer game as well, but I am sure that the talented BGG community will come up with one evenually :) Thank you for the playthrough, Tom!
Looks like a bit of cross-prototype pollination happened at UKGE. There should only be ONE of each fish, so those two prams and two lionfish are not intended to be there! I wonder what fish wandered into the OTHER prototype??
I disagree with the other comments saying that it’s underwhelming. You’d have to concede that it’s less tense than the competitive game (especially because there is no madness tracker), but I don’t think it’s trying to evoke the same feeling. To me, the solo mode is a slow burn, it’s more quaint. Kind of feels like animal crossings or a game that’s less high strung. In a real sense, it feels like you’re fishing. I saw the game designer say that he liked game like Dorf Romantik, games that have good gameplay loops. Seeing as I will primarily be playing solo, this game scratches that itch. I’ve been waiting for this livestream to see whether or not the solo was any good. I’m going to buy the game! I was worried that equipment was too easy to purchase, so I was happy to see the updated prices midway through this game. I think that the designer cares deeply about the game. Every aspect has been lovingly crafted. And, yes, the game is quite expensive, but it feels more handmade, more artisan, more personalized than games put out by giant publishing companies. Reading through the designer’s intent behind every decision makes it so easy to root for him. His decision not to create psychologically manipulative kickstarter tiers. His decision to abstain from plastics and things harmful to the environment. His decision to withhold future expansions so that backers get to learn whether they like the game before being sold on a plethora of expansions. Thank you for both of your play throughs Tom. Your first one put the game on my radar; your second convinced me to buy it.
Quick question - apologies if already answered... What happens when you've caught everything? Does the gameplay still reel you back in? 😊 I generally need solo modes to be near infinitely repayable. Not sure if a campaign solo would suit me.
You’re trying to survey all the fish so once you’ve done that you’re done unless you’d like to start again. It’d take you quite a few games I think, but not infinite
Good job demoing the game. As for solo mode I was surprised - is this really it? Very underwhelming to say the least. Multiplayer seems pretty good though.
Yep! It does get more complicated after the first few games, figuring out how to catch the lower fish is a bit more complicated. But yeah, It's a much more zen experience than the multiplayer based on the types of solo games that I enjoy. I look for very different things in solo and multiplayer games.

Yeah, that's exactly what I wanted. A chill collect and catalog game. I was really inspired by Dorf Romantik's design when I was making the solo mode.
Yeah, I think there will be combatitive solo mode sooner or later.

That's the aim! Cozy horror fishing!
Can't wait to play this with my partner 🎉
The solo/co-op looks like such a relaxing way to spend an afternoon 🐟

This does not look like a good time. The multi player game looked cool.
