Nice of you to do a video of what most of us do but, never with advice for others. You and I have identical even to the head mounted magnifier of which I had for years.
That magnifier is great on my second pair! I figured this could be helpful for others. It was different for me to make also. Kind of in between some cars that I bought for my collection but are maybe not that interesting for a video and the 2024's so hopefully this will help some one.
@@mycarcave6214 I'm going to show my magnifiers for you on my Marussia MR01 of which is about 4th in the que and will be out probably around new years. When you see it you will know that it was for you. I never knew they had decals for the models until I saw a set on Stone Models website and apparently, they sell through quickly. As i have hand painted NFL electric football figures for almost every team and would have a friend in the hobby make decals for me. So I'm used to working with very amateur decals as the smallest of sizes, think about all the tine decals on an NGL helmet and you will get it. I might even do a video on my teams some day.
Ok great will be looking for that video....you are better organized to have a queue ...I need to do that so I can churn out some videos over the next few weeks. Decals are great again just to add to the hobby. When I was young I made plastic models but don't make the time for that now. Decals is a quick way to "craft". I would love to see the electric football figures...not sure I know exactly what those are but in a somewhat related hobby I for a while was making my own bobblehead football figures and making my own decals. Making my own decals was really hit or miss. Indycals will print your decals for you but you have to do the design work which is harder than I initially thought and thus I only did a few.
Thanks so much for the video mate, I’ve got an MCL35M that needs Velo decals, I’ve been dreading it but having a video for some reference is super helpful!
Glad you found this helpful. It took about 30min to do but since you do not have to remove any existing decals it is pretty easy. Just take your time and uses some online photos for reference. You will appreciate your model more when done. Cheers and good luck!
Great video! I started decalling this year, done a few McLaren's and Rothmans Porsches. Haven't got the courage to attempt my Looksmart Ferrari SF 71H USA GP model yet 😬
That is awesome. For me it really helps me enjoy the hobby beyond just taking them out of the box and knowing I own it. Good chance to look at the cars up close and in the end they just look correct when done. I have to admit I do not have the courage to attempt decals on a higher end model. If I recall that one the places where the Mission Win go are blank so it is just adding you do not have to remove anything (that's where I get panicky) . I put Mission Win decals on my SF71H and it looks really good. I believe I bought them from www.tbdecalsmodels.com . So if my memory serves and it is just adding decals go for it. Car will look great afterwards. You can also order two sets, I sometimes do to have a spare if I break a decal or a few years later they are pealing from a poor install on my part. Good luck and let me know if you dive in an get that one done!

Hey sorry for the delayed response. - Warm water (for decals) - paint brush - exacto knife - tweezers - toothpick - Microset ( this is good for setting the decal, helps bind to surface) - Microsol (this is good to help make the decal more flexible and bend into say body panel gaps) Basically using warm water to soak the decal before pulling it on to the model. The exacto is for cutting the decals so you only soak the ones you want to work on when you have a larger sheet like this one. The tweezer, paint brush, toothpick are all just ways to manipulate the decal on the surface. Toothpick is nice because it is softer than tweezers and more accurate than the brush. Lastly the two liquids are MicroSet and MicroSol. Too me they feel like the do the same thing. I think of MicroSet as a liquid to help adhere the decal to the model. MicroSol is more about "weakening" the decal so it is more malleable and can easily rest on complex surfaces. The danger with MicroSol is it can weaken the decal too much and break the decal if you are not careful. I use it sparingly and prefer just to use MicroSet. Neither are required the are just additive and I would probably just recommend MicroSet if you wanted one. You can pick them up at hobby stores or as always Amazon. Hope that helps.
Any advice on putting the long Marlboro decal on the front of a 1999 Ferrari Monaco winner? Specifically how to get it over or around that little sensor or antenna that sticks up right through the center of the decal. Thanks! Really enjoy all your videos
Sorry, I forgot to say it’s a GP Replicas 1/18 model. I wonder if I can remove the antenna without breaking it and then reinstall it after putting the decal on. Hmm…
Hey thank you for the question...I would not remove the antenna. Not that it cannot be done but my thought is it is glued in and there is a good chance you either break the antenna or the glue pulls the paint (if you are a risk taker you could do it and hope that the decal covers any paint pull). Going from memory I believe the GP Replicas provided decals actually had a hole for the shorter black antenna in the 'b'. I cannot tell on the metal frontal antenna if there was a hole or I cut the slit myself in the 'r/o'. I am going to assume I estimated the location of the front antenna and cut a slit. Then when placing the decal I slipped the larger frontal antenna through the slit I cut then laid the decal down, working front towards the cockpit and aiming to have the shorter black decal go through the pre-cut hole in the 'b'. That said my slit was off thus it did not line up exactly with the pre-cut hole. So it tore a bit. Working around the antennas is not easy. I have cut the Marlboro decal in between letters to place around antennas on other models and years. I uses that Micro Sol or Set to help lay the decal down and so even if you have a split you can pretty much make it disappear if you spend the time lining them up. To do it again I might have placed the decal on the model using the pre-cut hole in the 'b' as a placement guide. Then where the decal hits the back of the frontal metal antenna you could make a small mark with the exacto knife, pull the decal back off place it back on the wet decal paper and make the slit. Then follow my earlier instruction on placing the frontal antenna through the slit you cut and working your way backwards. Last suggestion is you can look online at some of the GP Replicas from Stone Models Car and see where they placed the hole/slit and try to estimate off that one. I did a video review of that particular model and I may have referenced the decals in that but was a while back so do not recall off memory. While it is a bit of a challenge it makes the car look right. Worst case you can probably buy a replacement decal off ebay or TBDecals.com and give it a second shot. Micro Set is also your friend. Long response but hope this helps. They need to let you attach photos to responses...would be easier for me to explain.

Thanks for video once again. Do you have any videos on removing decals. For me, so much harder to do than add decals. I have just completed a JPS conversion on a 1/18 Senna Minichamps Lotus 97T and found it really difficult to remove the 'wreath' logos either side of the cockpit. Turned out ok but so easy to ruin a good model. Thanks....
