It makes me feel sick to think that her elite career seems to be over before it ever really got started :( I felt for sure she'd be the 2016 Olympic champion on beam.
Dennis G -Life is funny like that. Overall though, I think she is way more satisfied with her life now than she would have been if she went to the Olympics. Remember, she was very unhappy with her life in gymnastics in 2013. It was not until almost her second season at UCLA that she rediscovered her joy in gymnastics. Now she’s ready to branch out to other opportunities.
This seems to be a reoccurring theme of coach Lyukin's gymnasts, they're pushed to do extreme difficulty at a very young age and end up having to retire from elite gymnastics early because of injury.
Komischerweise hat er das einarmige Element am Barren von seiner Tochter erst später verlangt. Katelyn hat sich dadurch die Schultern gebrochen. Was für ein verantwortungsloser Trainer.
If the FIG's stupid age restriction didn't exist, Katelyn would have for sure gone to London because there wouldn't have been a need for Kyla Ross' bars. Katelyn would've gotten team gold, could have been all around champion, very likely would have taken gold on beam, and could've contended for a medal of any color on bars. Some of the greatest gymnasts of all time were 14, like NADIA.
Lmao Katelynn did not have a better vault/floor/bars than gabby or Komova she would NOT have been AA champ. She barely could hit her dry and both the champs had amanars
Does anyone realize that this routine is valued at a 7.5 DIFFICULTY SCORE in the current code of points (2013-2016)?!!?!??!! I was just saying. Some gymnasts are really good on beam but this one is just RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING.
I'm sad she had to retire from elite because she really could've been one of the bests...even at the American cup in 2013, which she won, she was struggling. I wish they didn't have her throw full difficulty so early on in her career.
I LOVE this girl! Everything from her toe point to her hand positions is exquisite. I am so glad she finally put it all together on this event. She is an incredible gymnast and I hope she sticks around for 2016 because I would love to see her at an Olympics Games. I am sure she would be received very well internationally! Not to mention, she seems like the sweetest girl who really enjoys doing gymnastics. Team Ohashi!
Great mount, great connections, great form, great full twist (Better than in Warm-up), great dismount, incredible routine! Thank you very mucht for uploading in playlists. I Enjoy it and I'm looking forward to the playlist of the women senior routines! Greets from the Netherlands!
un-be-lievable. i just can't fathom one gymnast having THAT much talent as a junior. sure she had a few wobbles in this performance but come senior-time she is undoubtedly going to be the one to beat
Wow in the new code she has a 7.2 start value! D= G,G,F,D,D=2.8 Dance=E,D,D=1.3 1.3+2.8=4.1 Cv=0.6 (0.3 for bhs+bhs+layout full, 0.3 for Onodi+front aerial+sheep jump) 4.1+0.6+2.5=7.2!
The BEST beam routine I have ever seen!!! Age rules suck!! That's the routine that should have won GOLD at worlds. It wouldn't even have been close. A 16.100 and I still think she was underscored. *Amazing*
@jacob2289 Viktoria Komova was doing a flic-flac + flic-flac + Patterson off beam at 12. She also had a flic-flac + loso + Arabian on beam and a 1.5 + double Arabian on floor at the same time. She had many other great skills too. She has done a beam routine out of, I think, a 7.4 difficulty before. Not even Katelyn's hit that yet.
I love her connections. No pauses like some of the other gymnast. Although a very short pause is acceptable. The second pass with the full twist was awesome.
By "this year", they're referring to 2012. She did downgrade her dismount to a double pike, and (for whatever reason) hasn't been connecting the Onodi to the front aerial.
@jperrizito Isn't she japanese? Ohashi isn't a chinese name... and she's an american citizen so she doesn't need if "fake" passport I think... like nastia I guess... Nastia is russian but a us citizen.
@apluskel On beam-but I think Komova still has the edge on vault (she can do an Amanar) and bars. Katelyn will hopefully upgrade at least on bars as the years progress.
Wow that's an amazing routine. I'm unsure if she can keep it up though, a growth spurt or an injury could be disastrous, but there's no denying how talented she is.
@bernardmvella I agree, I thought I counted a few more deductions (especially in the dismount), but definitely deserving of the highest score of the year on beam (seniors & juniors).
Do juniors do the same kind of difficulty as seniors? I ask because if she were to perform these skills as a senior would her difficulty score still be so high?
This is the reason why FIG needs to lower their stupid age restriction by one year - they'll catch so many talented gymnasts peaking at just the right age.
@jacob2289 you obviously dont watch much gymnastics. every generation has a gymnast with that much talent. the skills keep getting harder, but the talent is always there. Jordyn and Shawn were just like her a few years ago. Whats so unbelievable about it. Most elites are at their best at this age.
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 Komova never hit the flic-loso-Arabian, at least not at the age of 12, in competition. At the age of 13, she never had a beam routine with a SV of 7.4. I love Komova as much as anyone else, but I think Ohashi has her beat (slightly) on beam. Komova definitely takes bars, though.
Its so sad that her love of elite gymnastics was destroyed from being over-trained, being body shamed and damn near starved. Because truth be told had she stuck around both her and Simone would constantly be neck and neck much like Nastia and Shawn were. I'm just so glad she's happier now.
rules are the same for all elites, there are no seperate rules for senior and Junior. Katelyn did change her dismount (-0.2 in DV), stopped connecting her onodi+free walkover, so she DID downgrade some of her routines
If her life did not take a different path, she and Simone would have kept on pushing each other. I think Katelyn might very well have been able to keep up with Simone.
I had never seen a routine including standing arabian, full twist straight layout and a full twisting double piked dismount , all in the same exercise. Wow.
One of the best beam sets ever. Huge difficulty & it's beautiful.
At least now she’s having the time
Of her life and is truly happy at UCLA
It makes me feel sick to think that her elite career seems to be over before it ever really got started :( I felt for sure she'd be the 2016 Olympic champion on beam.

I was thinking the same thing. This kid deserved to go to the Olympics.
Den Mehrkampf hätte sie nicht gewonnen. Aber Balken und Barren wahrscheinlich schon.
Does anyone realize that this routine is valued at a 7.5 DIFFICULTY SCORE in the current code of points (2013-2016)?!!?!??!! I was just saying. Some gymnasts are really good on beam but this one is just RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING.
probably my favorite beam routine I've ever seen and I've been following gym since 1986 or so
So gutting even at this age that routine would have destroyed the competition in today's world final.
I'm sad she had to retire from elite because she really could've been one of the bests...even at the American cup in 2013, which she won, she was struggling. I wish they didn't have her throw full difficulty so early on in her career.
I don't watch gymnastics but it looks like she made this look very easy when it isn't. Absolutely amazing!
I LOVE this girl! Everything from her toe point to her hand positions is exquisite. I am so glad she finally put it all together on this event. WOW!!!!!!! Great job!
For those wondering about her score: 16.1
Great mount, great connections, great form, great full twist (Better than in Warm-up), great dismount, incredible routine!
Thank you very mucht for uploading in playlists. I Enjoy it and I'm looking forward to the playlist of the women senior routines!
Greets from the Netherlands!
My mind ! the crowd must been impressed! That was an OLYMPICS ROUTINE WOW !
I have to watch her perform more than once because she is beautiful to watch! Great performances from her. Best of luck for 2012 season! ^ ^
Thanks so much for posting all the Visa videos!!
un-be-lievable. i just can't fathom one gymnast having THAT much talent as a junior. sure she had a few wobbles in this performance but come senior-time she is undoubtedly going to be the one to beat
7.0 in the 2022-24 code.
this routine wouldve won gold im worlds 2022.
Wow in the new code she has a 7.2 start value!
D= G,G,F,D,D=2.8
Dance=E,D,D=1.3
1.3+2.8=4.1
Cv=0.6 (0.3 for bhs+bhs+layout full, 0.3 for Onodi+front aerial+sheep jump)
4.1+0.6+2.5=7.2!
Sadly it seems like she's quit elite gymnastics
Well she just had her first meet! She said hopefully she'll make Nationals this year! I hope so, she's awesome on beam and floor!
The BEST beam routine I have ever seen!!! Age rules suck!! That's the routine that should have won GOLD at worlds. It wouldn't even have been close. A 16.100 and I still think she was underscored. *Amazing*
i literally cry when i watch this routine
She was freaking amazing...these juniors are doing some great things...seniors take notes for day 2.
Phenomenal difficulty and rapid pacing on delivery of sequences. Outstanding!
Amazing! 16.1 was a huge score in the OLD code. in the NEW code it's insane!
omg, she is amazing! This is her as a junior! watch out world
Wow with this junior routine she could have medaled at london
double back handspring to full twist layout! i'm in awe!
just coming back for my daily dose
7.0 difficulty?!!!!! That's amazing! And to do it that well is insane! She's going to be a huge force in gymnastics when she gets to be a senior!
She’s so unbelievable! It’s one of the most difficult dismont I’ve seen! Congrats Katelyn you are amazing!
Her beam work is phenomenal
@jacob2289 Viktoria Komova was doing a flic-flac + flic-flac + Patterson off beam at 12. She also had a flic-flac + loso + Arabian on beam and a 1.5 + double Arabian on floor at the same time. She had many other great skills too. She has done a beam routine out of, I think, a 7.4 difficulty before. Not even Katelyn's hit that yet.
Beautiful routine! I also love the Gremlins theme playing towards the end! Who ever that is, is so cool!
I love her connections. No pauses like some of the other gymnast. Although a very short pause is acceptable. The second pass with the full twist was awesome.
that is the best i have ever seen her perform that awesome routine. my favorite routine in the world
By "this year", they're referring to 2012. She did downgrade her dismount to a double pike, and (for whatever reason) hasn't been connecting the Onodi to the front aerial.
Dennis G she was growing and those are super hard and is not giving her joy.
Holy shit that score! Well deserved
@jperrizito Isn't she japanese? Ohashi isn't a chinese name... and she's an american citizen so she doesn't need if "fake" passport I think... like nastia I guess... Nastia is russian but a us citizen.
@jperrizito Ohashi is a Japanese name, not Chinese. 大橋, big bridge, would be pronounced Da Chiao in Mandarin.
She is Japanese. Ohashi is a Japanese last name. Japanese are not Chinese.
oh wow. best ive ever seen her do this routine. absolutley amazing
Talk about ridiculously talented! I really hope she can stay healthy and fit till 2016 :)
omg her dismount was marvelous!
this is amazing a 16.1!!!!!!!! thats like unheard of with this scoring system
Literally obsessed with this. WHY CAN'T I BE HER?
That's 2012 Olympic gold on beam good :-) Keep up the great work!!
You called it
THAT WAS AN AMMMAAAZING ROUTINE
@bernardmvella I agree, I thought I counted a few more deductions (especially in the dismount), but definitely deserving of the highest score of the year on beam (seniors & juniors).

how can she do this with the music blasting in the background?!
Awesome :) Is there anyone who knows the name of the gymnast who is doing floor during this exercise? (Sorry about bad english)
So I am only a gymnastics watcher not competitor is it accurate that the junior and senior code of points are the same?
A layout full?! AMAZING!
@jacob2289 you obviously dont watch much gymnastics. every generation has a gymnast with that much talent. the skills keep getting harder, but the talent is always there. Jordyn and Shawn were just like her a few years ago. Whats so unbelievable about it. Most elites are at their best at this age.
@jackmini The Y 1/1 turn wouldn't actually give her a higher score because it is still rated lower than her other elements.
I hate how she was just a few months away from being eligible for London
Its so sad that her love of elite gymnastics was destroyed from being over-trained, being body shamed and damn near starved. Because truth be told had she stuck around both her and Simone would constantly be neck and neck much like Nastia and Shawn were. I'm just so glad she's happier now.
Nope she would not be neck in neck with Simone. Simone's floor and vault are just miles ahead of Ohashi.
rules are the same for all elites, there are no seperate rules for senior and Junior. Katelyn did change her dismount (-0.2 in DV), stopped connecting her onodi+free walkover, so she DID downgrade some of her routines
this seriously BLOWS MY MIND.
Okay, I really hope she's this good when she's a senior. She'll be a real asset for the US.
😍😍😍😍😍😍
@jperrizito is she chinese or japanese? ohashi sounds japanese to me
OMG AMAZING!!! I'm so so excited about her!
What's the move at 0:18? 😲
This is unbelievable. how old is she? on all events she is masterful
Wow. All I can say is WOW! She can make the Worlds team as soon as she's of age!
Omg this dismount its very beautiful!!!wow
This girl is a legend now!!!!
pretty sure for nastia's bars valeri was like what's the hardest routine i can put together?! and then for katelyn's beam he thought the same thing...
LOL who's floor routine is the theme song from Gremlins?!
@HevensRath it's called ARTISTIC Gymnastics for a reason.
what is the difficulty score for that routine?
Wow! How old is she?
havent seen another north of 15, let alone 16! very nice to see!
Ohashi mah 👍💖😘💋🌸😍🌷❤😚💓💐💞💪
Katelyn, You are amazing!!
no, she didn't, it's about junior rules, every element above E gets counted as an E anyways, so she loses 4 tenths to that rule
this is the first beam score I've seen over 16 in the new code.
Wow she's good! anyone know how old she is?
she was amazing!!
All I have to say is “you go girl” there are millions of people cheering for you... hope you are ready you are not a celebrity with a capital”C”!!!!!
If her life did not take a different path, she and Simone would have kept on pushing each other. I think Katelyn might very well have been able to keep up with Simone.
This was much better than current seniors' routines. She is sick.
How tall is she?
I am praying we get to see her at an olympic games!
Wheres the crowd tho ??????
I hope she can keep all these skills till 2016... cause then she'd be a shoe in for the team
Sad she couldn't compete at the Olympics. This routine would have bested Deng Linlin's15.600.
shes actually japanese not chinese
oh onodis... how come you're not seen more often... sigh...
This kid is phenomenal!
I thought the D score was a 6.6 not 7
I had never seen a routine including standing arabian, full twist straight layout and a full twisting double piked dismount , all in the same exercise. Wow.
Wow..That dismount was insane...
im japanese and 4'5" tall; and a boy!! anyway... i lave her sooo much, she so mazing スゴイ!!!
They were having a barbecue and a fanfare next door?
Does she have japanese origins?
